Declaraciones de Colbert, Roger Gutiérrez, Gary A. Russell, Postol, Ancajas y Fernando Martínez, protagonistas de velada de PBC en febrero

Poco después de que Showtime anunciase qué combates compondrán su velada del día 26 de febrero en The Cosmopolitan en Las Vegas, Estados Unidos, se ha emitido una nota de prensa oficial con las declaraciones de los seis boxeadores protagonistas. En ellas los púgiles han subrayado lo que suponen para sus carreras estas cruciales peleas.
El enfrentamiento estelar será el mundial WBA superpluma entre Roger Gutiérrez y Chris Colbert, mostrando este último en sus declaraciones confianza respecto a sus posibilidades:
“Estoy superpreparado para mi oportunidad titular. Ha tardado mucho en llegar, pero no me sorprende. Esta fue siempre la expectativa. Sé que Gutiérrez vendrá a pelear. Él es campeón por una razón. Así que no vendrá a tirarse a la lona. Pero planeo derribarlo y estoy dispuesto a hacer cualquier cosa que tenga que hacer el 26 de febrero para que eso suceda. Sé que mucha gente ha estado esperando para ver cuándo conseguía esta oportunidad titular, y ahora es el momento”.
Por su parte, Gutiérrez se mostró agradecido y dispuesto a tratar de mostrar que merece su posición en la cumbre:
“Antes que nada, quiero darle las gracias a Dios, a mi madre, a mi equipo, a mi promotor y a la WBA por esta oportunidad. Me ha costado mucho esfuerzo ganar el campeonato mundial, esta es mi segunda defensa y estoy listo para darlo todo para retenerlo. El 26 de febrero voy a mostrarle al mundo que soy el mejor en las 130 libras”.
Pasando al semifondo, el duelo del peso superligero entre Gary Antuanne Russell y Viktor Postol, el primero de ambos destacó su preparación en el apartado psicológico, resumió el estilo de su rival y previó una victoria antes del límite:
“Me voy a asegurar de que estoy preparado mentalmente y listo para rendir a un gran nivel para este combate. Estos combates se reducen a quién es más estable mentalmente, y eso es una cuestión de entrenamiento. Entreno mi mente tanto como mi físico. He visto a Postol pelear antes y sé que es un boxeador con alcance con un estilo europeo. Le gusta estar a distancia y eso es lo que mejor le funciona. Él se apoya en sus puntos fuertes. Entro a cada combate planeando hacer una declaración de intenciones. Mi predicción, voy a terminar este combate en el quinto round”.
Menos se prolongó la declaración de Postol, que simplemente destacó que deseaba retornar al cuadrilátero y que se siente motivado por el reto:
“Acepté este combate tan pronto como se ofreció. No he peleado desde hace un tiempo y quería volver al ring tan pronto como pudiese. Estoy especialmente emocionado por tener la oportunidad de enfrentarme a un buen y joven oponente el día 26 de febrero”.
La cartelera se abrirá con el mundial IBF supermosca entre Jerwin Ancajas y Fernando Martínez. El campeón Ancajas señaló:
“Estoy entusiasmado por volver a Showtime defendiendo mi título mundial el 26 de febrero. Es muy emocionante hacer mi décima defensa de título mundial en el primer combate de mi carrera en Las Vegas”.
Finalmente el retador Martínez aseguró que no piensa desaprovechar la ocasión:
“Estoy emocionado por tener esta gran oportunidad de mostrar mi habilidad en el gran escenario en Las Vegas. Voy a dejarlo todo en el ring el 26 de febrero y a darle a los espectadores una pelea emocionante. Mi meta es convertirme en campeón mundial y esta es la noche para demostrar lo que valgo”.

Shortly after Showtime announced which fights will compose his televised card on February 26 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, United States, an official press release has been issued with the statements of the six featured boxers. In them the boxers have underlined what these crucial fights mean for their careers.
The main clash will be the WBA super featherweight world championship between Roger Gutiérrez and Chris Colbert. The latter showed confidence in his statements regarding his possibilities:
“I’m super ready for my title shot. This has been a long time coming, but it’s no shocker to me. This was always the expectation. I know Gutierrez will come to fight. He’s a champion for a reason. So he’s not coming to lay down. But I plan to put him down and I’m willing to do whatever I have to do on February 26 to make that happen. I know a lot of people have been waiting to see when I get this title shot and now it’s time.»
For his part, Gutiérrez was grateful and willing to try to show that he deserves his position at the top:
“First of all, I want to thank God, my mother, my team, my promoter and the WBA for this opportunity. It cost me a lot of effort to win the world championship, this is my second title defense and I am ready to give it my all to retain it. On February 26, I am going to show the world that I am the best at 130 pounds.”
About the co-feature, the super lightweight duel between Gary Antuanne Russell and Viktor Postol, the first of both highlighted his psychological preparation, summed up the style of his rival and foresaw a knockout victory:
«I’m going to make sure I’m prepared mentally and ready to perform at a high-level for this fight. These fights come down to who’s more mentally stable, and that’s a matter of training. I train my mental as much as I do physically. I’ve watched Postol fight before and I know that he’s a rangy fighter with a European style. He likes to stay at a distance and that works best for him. He leans on his strengths. Every fight I come in planning to make a statement. My prediction, I’m ending this fight in round five.»
Postol’s statement was shorter, and in it he simply said that he desired to return to the ring and that he feels motivated by the challenge:
“I accepted this fight as soon as it was offered. I haven’t fought in a while and I wanted to get back in the ring as soon as I could. I’m especially excited that I’m going to have the opportunity to face a good young opponent on February 26th.”
The card will open with the IBF super flyweight world championship between Jerwin Ancajas and Fernando Martínez. The belt holder Ancajas said:
“I am thrilled to be back on Showtime defending my world title on February 26. It’s very exciting to be making my tenth world title defense in the first Las Vegas fight of my career.»
The challenger Martínez assured that he does not intend to waste the opportunity:
“I’m excited to have this great chance to show my skills on the big stage in Las Vegas. I’m going to leave it all in the ring on February 26 and give all the fans watching an exciting fight. My goal is to become world champion and this is the night for me to prove myself.”
