En muchas ocasiones los máximos combates nunca llegan o llegan muy tarde, pero este no será el caso finalmente del duelo del peso ligero entre Katie Taylor y Amanda Serrano, dos de las mejores boxeadoras libra por libra de la actualidad que se enfrentarán el día 30 de abril en el Madison Square Garden de Nueva York, Estados Unidos, con emisión de DAZN. Esto ha sido ya confirmado oficialmente por las promotoras implicadas en la organización del choque, entre ellas Matchroom Boxing.
Es cierto que la pelea podría haber tenido lugar unos años atrás, pero ambas están todavía en un excelente estado, cuentan con rendimientos de élite y no han dado signos de que sus carreras estén en declive, por lo que la pugna tiene todo su interés deportivo intacto. Por otro lado, en cuanto a las consecuencias, este duelo seguramente lleve a la ganadora a una incuestionable posición de número 1 libra por libra de la actualidad en el boxeo femenino, además de afianzar su importancia histórica.
Junto al anuncio oficial, Taylor señaló lo siguiente:
“Este es un combate que he querido desde hace mucho, mucho tiempo y estoy emocionada por que finalmente tenga lugar, ya que estas son el tipo de peleas por las que estoy en el deporte. La gente ha estado hablando sobre este combate desde hace años y han habido veces en las que me he preguntado si alguna vez iba a llegar a suceder, así que estoy muy agradecida a Eddie Hearn, a todo el mundo en Matchroom, a DAZN y al Madison Square Garden por haberlo hecho realidad. Cuando me convertí en profesional mi meta fue estar involucrada en enormes eventos como este, así que ser cabeza de cartel en el Madison Square Garden en un combate de esta magnitud es realmente la cúspide del deporte. Es un recinto icónico y ha sido sede para muchos momentos históricos en el boxeo, y verdaderamente creo que este será otro más”.
Por su parte, Serrano afirmó:
“Es un sueño hecho realidad tener la oportunidad de ser cabeza de cartel en el Madison Square Garden y hacerlo contra una de las mejores boxeadoras de todos los tiempos como Katie Taylor. Desde que era una chica mi único novio ha sido el boxeo. He dedicado toda mi vida a él, y este evento hace que esa dedicación valiese la pena cada minuto. El 30 de abril voy a hacer historia para mí, para mi equipo, para mi familia, para Puerto Rico, para cada latina y latino y para todas las mujeres del mundo”.

On many occasions the greatest fights never materialize or end up happening too late, but this will not be the case with the duel between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, two of today’s best pound for pound boxers who will face each other on April 30 at the Madison Square Garden in New York, United States, streamed by DAZN. This has already been officially confirmed by the promoters involved in the organization of the event, including Matchroom Boxing.
It is true that the fight could have taken place a few years ago, but both boxers are still in excellent condition, have elite performances and have shown no signs that their careers are in decline, so the fight has all its sporting interest intact. On the other hand, in terms of consequences, this duel will surely lead the winner to an unquestionable position as number 1 pound for pound in today women’s boxing, as well as strengthening her historic importance.
Along with the official announcement, Taylor said:
“This is a fight I’ve wanted for a long, long time and I’m just excited for it to finally take place because these are the kind of fights I’m in the sport for. On her turn, Serrano stated:
