Anoche (hora local), el Wizink Center de Madrid, España, fue sede para una velada de Maravillabox y Probellum en la que el excampeón mundial del peso medio Sergio “Maravilla” Martínez 55(30KO)-3(2)-2 derrotó por amplísima decisión unánime al británico Macaulay McGowan 14(3KO)-3-1, quien visitó dos veces la lona antes de un veredicto con puntuaciones de 99-89, 99-89 y 98-90.
Los jabs con las manos bajas y los directos a la contra de Martínez conectaron con precisión en el primer tercio, llegando a mover un poco a su rival. McGowan tiró entonces de voluntad y coraje para, desde antes de la mitad, presionar, llevar a las cuerdas a “Maravilla” y atacarle con agresivas series, destacando algunas derechas y ganchos diestros. Aun así, el argentino usó sus pasos laterales y sus contragolpes para contener gran parte de la presión antes de que en el séptimo asalto se anotase un knockdown con un gancho diestro al cuerpo. A partir de entonces el dominio de Martínez se expandió hasta quedar cerca el triunfo antes del límite en el último round, en el que volvió a derribar a McGowan con una izquierda al rostro segundos antes de la conclusión.
En cuanto al respaldo principal, en el que no pudo participar Jon Fernández, el filipino-noruego Bernard Angelo “La Máquina” Torres 16(7KO)-0 sólo pudo sacar una muy ajustada decisión dividida contra el argentino Mauro Alex Hasan Perouene 13(6KO)-5(1)-1. Las puntuaciones de los jueces fueron de 96-94 y 96-95 para Torres, y de 94-96 par Perouene.

Last night (local time), Wizink Center in Madrid, Spain, was venue for an evening promoted by Maravillabox and Probellum in which former world middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martínez 55(30KO)-3(2)-2 defeated by wide unanimous decision British Macaulay McGowan 14(3KO)-3-1, who visited the canvas twice before a verdict with scores of 99-89, 99-89 and 98-90.
Martinez’s low-handed jabs and straight counters connected with precision in the first third of the fight, ocassionally shaking his rival a bit. Before the half point, McGowan used his will and courage to press, take “Maravilla” to the ropes and attack him with aggressive combinations, highlighting some straight right hands and right hooks. Still, the Argentine used his sidesteps and counterpunches to contain much of the pressure before scoring a knockdown in the seventh round with a right hook to the body. From then on, Martinez’s dominance expanded until he almost reached a knockout in the final round, in which he dropped McGowan with a left hand to the head seconds before the conclusion.
As for the main support, in which Jon Fernández could not participate, the Filipino-Norwegian Bernard Angelo «La Maquina» Torres 16(7KO)-0 could only get a very close split decision against the Argentine Mauro Alex Hasan Perouene 13(6KO )-5(1)-1.
