Este viernes será el momento escogido para una nueva velada de MTK Global, que en el York Hall de Londres, Reino Unido, ofrecerá enfrentamientos para ocho boxeadores invictos. Este cartel, emitido por ESPN+ y YouTube, contará además de con prospectos con dos boxeadores muy bien clasificados, quienes se prepararán para pugnas de gran calado pugnando contra oponentes voluntariosos.
Posible aspirante mundial del peso medio
La renuncia del número 1 WBO del peso medio Jaime Munguía a seguir la ruta de este organismo y el ordenado campeonato interino WBO entre los siguientes dos clasificados, Alimkhanuly y Falcao, han dejado al británico Danny Dignum 13(7KO)-0-1, 4º WBO, a las puertas de disputar el primer mundial de su carrera. De todos modos, este oro de Inglaterra y exmiembro de la selección británica, todavía está en fase de desarrollo y mejorando su boxeo como profesional, resultando evidente su progresión desde el combate ante Anthony Fox hasta el que disputó contra el correosísimo Andrey Sirotkin.
Con todo, aunque está evolucinando (si hubiese combatido contra Sirotkin como ante Fox o Meli habría perdido claramente), contra el ruso sólo pudo sacar un empate cuestionado por bastantes. Así, estando obligado a seguir evolucionando, Dignum encara este viernes una pelea contra Grant Dennis 17(3KO)-3(1), exretador al título inglés en forma, con una base técnica sólida, ordenado y competitivo cuya única derrota amplia llegó precisamente ante el propio Sirotkin.
Por lo tanto, la idea es que Dignum, que posee buenos golpes de poder desde la distancia media-corta, tenga útiles rounds contra Dennis, un púgil que debería darle trabajo con sus cualidades pero al que teóricamente el imbatido debería derrotar si sigue encontrando soluciones a los puntos débiles de su boxeo, algo que realmente necesita hacer si quiere demostrar que tiene algo que decir en la parte alta de la división del peso medio.
McGregor espera su turno
Otro boxeador participante en la velada que está muy bien ranqueado es el peso gallo Lee “Lightning” McGregor 11(9KO)-0, quien de hecho es el boxeador mejor clasificado en el ranking IBF para retar a Naoya Inoue. Por lo tanto, el británico está a la espera de que en el futuro le llegue una pelea por campeonato mundial, quizás por la corona vacante si el nipón, como se afirma, termina ascendiendo al peso supergallo a finales de año. Sumándose a esto que McGregor no tuvo la mejor conclusión de temporada 2021, viendo cancelada una pelea de campeonato de Europa entre otras cosas, el boxeador de Edimburgo necesita subirse al ring para mantenerse preparado para lo que está por venir y para poner a prueba en una pelea oficial su intenso trabajo en los entrenamientos.
Por ello este viernes, en el semifondo del evento, McGregor combatirá contra el argentino Diego Alberto “El Profeta” Ruiz 23(12KO)-4(1), quien es conocido en las Islas Británicas por sus aguerridas actuaciones en sus derrotas contra el bronce olímpico Michael Conlan y el buen prospecto Shabaz Masoud.
A estos nombres destacados Ruiz añadirá otro más el viernes contra “Lightning” McGregor, un boxeador que, además de notable habilidad, posee un estilo rápido y contundente que le hace partir como amplio favorito para este choque. McGregor afirma que espera que Ruiz trate de ponerle presión y luche por la victoria, ya que dice que esto le servirá para sacar lo mejor de su boxeo y brillar, aunque para cumplir este objetivo quizás debería evitar pugnar de más en corta, donde el choque se podría embarrar, y tratar de marcar la diferencia desde la distancia media.
Una carrera profesional tardía
De entre las diversas peleas de la cartelera destaca también la segunda pelea profesional de la peso supermosca Nina Hughes 1(0KO)-0, que logró siete títulos nacionales como amateur y que estuvo en la selección británica. Con todo, Hughes ha debutado como profesional a los 39 años, por lo que es de esperar que se busque con ella un muy acelerado avance en el boxeo de pago. Es por esto que en su segunda pugna ya se medirá a ocho asaltos a una rival con experiencia de calidad como Bec Connolly 3(0KO)-11(3), que se ha enfrentado a rivales como Terri Harper, Natasha Jonas, Rachel Ball, Ellie Scotney etc.
De todos modos, aunque Connolly es una púgil muy fogueada, tenaz y que pone esfuerzo, teóricamente Hughes tiene un nivel superior y debería poder lograr ante ella una amplia victoria unánime, que será objeto de comparaciones con las obtenidas por las arriba mencionadas boxeadoras.
