Danny Dignum se afianzó en el top 5 WBO del peso medio derribando tres veces y venciendo por KOT a Grant Dennis

En el combate estelar de la velada de MTK del viernes, el británico Danny Dignum 14(8KO)-0-1 se alejó de su empate ante Andrey Sirotkin y puso fin a 10 meses de inactividad derribando en tres ocasiones y venciendo por KOT en el sexto asalto a su compatriota Grant Dennis 017(3KO)-4(2), quien ante el citado Sirotkin aguantó ocho asaltos antes de ser derrotado en 2020.
Regresando al presente, el no favorito Dennis trató de abrir el ring y usar su juego de piernas para intentar evitar la pegada del zurdo Dignum y alcanzarlo por sorpresa con astutos directos diestros. Con todo, aunque conectó algunas manos nítidas, Dennis también recibió claros zurdazos y ganchos de mano adelantada de Dignum, quien padeció un corte en su párpado izquierdo en el tercer asalto por un cabezazo. Quizás por la preocupación que le provocó esta brecha, Dignum insistió más en sus ataques en ese mismo episodio e impactó buenos golpes de poder que sacudieron un tanto a Dennis.
Desde el cuarto asalto el jab de Dignum fue clave para incomodar a su adversario, que perdió mucha eficacia en sus salteadas arremetidas y que insistió demasiado en sus desplazamientos con voluntad elusiva y poco en su trabajo ofensivo. Así, sin tener demasiado por lo que preocuparse en cuestiones defensivas, Dignum fue más agresivo en el sexto round, sacando izquierdas arriba y abajo hasta que con un zurdazo ascendente puso en el tapiz a Dennis. Este se levantó muy afectado y tambaleándose, siendo evidente que no podía seguir, si bien el árbitro reanudó el combate, que se tornó en una pesadilla para Dennis quien, hostigado, cayó otras dos veces más a la lona antes de que el tercer hombre se decidiese al fin a detener el choque.
Como 4º clasificado WBO del peso medio, Dignum deberá estar muy atento al ordenado choque Alimkhanuly-Falcao por cinturón interino WBO, ya que podría llegarle la oportunidad de enfrentarse al vencedor. Por otro lado, Dignum no descarta pugnas de calibre en su propio país y, entre otros nombres, ha apuntado a un duelo contra Felix Cash como una posibilidad interesante y como un combate deseable para intentar poner su nombre entre la cumbre de los contendientes de la división.

In the main event of Friday’s MTK evening, British Danny Dignum 14(8KO)-0-1 put distance from his draw against Andrey Sirotkin and ended 10 months of inactivity by knocking down three times and beating by TKO in the sixth round his compatriot Grant Dennis 17(3KO)-4(2), who endured eight rounds before the defeat against the aforementioned Sirotkin in 2020.
Returning to the present, the underdog Dennis tried to open up the ring and use his footwork to try to avoid the power of the southpaw Dignum and surprise him with clever straight right hands. Still, while he landed some sharp hands, Dennis also took clean left hands and right hooks from Dignum, who suffered a cut in his left eyelid in the third round from a headbutt. Perhaps out of concern for this cut, Dignum was more insistent on his attack in that same round and landed some good power punches that rocked Dennis a bit.
From the fourth round, Dignum’s jab was key to bother his opponent, who lost a lot of effectiveness in his sporadic attacks and who insisted too much on his elusive movements and little on his offensive work. So, not having too much to worry about defensively, Dignum was more aggressive in the sixth round, throwing straigh left punches up and down until he put Dennis on the canvas with another left hand. Dennis got up with difficulties and staggered, so it was evident that he could not continue, although the referee resumed the fight, which turned into a nightmare for Dennis, who fell two more times to the mat before the third man finally decided to stop the match.
As the 4th WBO middleweight, Dignum will have to pay close attention to the Alimkhanuly-Falcao bout for the interim WBO belt, as he could have the opportunity to face the winner. On the other hand, Dignum does not rule out an important fight in his own country and, among other names, has pointed to a duel against Felix Cash as an interesting possibility and as a desirable match to try to put his name on the summit of the contenders in the division.
