Los mejores combates de este fin de semana (18-19/2/2022)

A diferencia de otras semanas anteriores, en esta ocasión habrá actividad interesante tanto en el viernes como en el sábado entre pugnas entre prospectos, tests para promesas ante veteranos y algún que otro choque con nombres conocidos pero en peleas de escaso sentido. En cualquier caso, no tendremos problema para encontrar enfrentamientos a los que prestar atención en este fin de semana.
Viernes 18 de febrero
En esta jornada destaca una nueva velada de la serie de eventos para prospectos ShoBox: The New Generation, que en esta ocasión tendrá lugar en el Caribe Royale de Orlando, Estados Unidos. Esta velada emitida por Showtime contará como combate estelar con un muy interesante duelo del peso ligero en el que se enfrentarán a diez asaltos el invicto Jamaine Ortiz 14(8KO)-0-1 y Nahir Albright 14(7KO)-1. El favorito teórico es Ortiz, si bien llega de caer dos veces a la lona en su empate contra Joseph Adorno, algo que no es el mejor de los precedentes para combatir contra un Albright que llega de la mayor victoria de su carrera, en la que vapuleó al prospecto Michael Dutchover derribándolo cuatro veces.
En el semifondo, un buen boxeador al que se le ha podido ver en veladas de PBC como Paul Kroll 9(6KO)-0 pugnará en el peso superwélter contra Marquis Taylor 12(1KO)-1-1, que cuenta con varias victorias destacables pero que empató contra un Lucas Santamaría al que Kroll derrotó claramente.
También en Estados Unidos, en el DoubleTree Hotel de Ontario, será ofrecida a través de YouTube una cartelera de Thompson Boxing en la que se producirá una revancha en el peso pluma entre Isaac Zárate 16(2KO)-5(1)-4, que peleó en eliminatoria contra el monarca unificado supergallo Akhmadaliev, y Horacio García 34(25KO)-5-1, conocido sobre todo por sus combates ante Carl Frampton y Hozumi Hasegawa. Zárate no pasa precisamente por un gran momento, ya que tiene un mal récord parcial y ha estado inactivo desde septiembre de 2019, aunque García no se sube al ring desde septiembre de 2018, cuando perdió el primer duelo contra su rival del viernes. Por lo tanto, es un combate bastante abierto y que debería dejar rounds interesantes.
Otro evento que será ofrecido por YouTube es el que organizará MTK Global desde el Bolton Whites Hotel de Bolton, Reino Unido. Con todo, en el momento de escribir estas líneas todavía no ha sido confirmado el adversario para el protagonista del duelo principal Jack Rafferty 17(9KO)-0, mientras que los restantes encuentros estarán desnivelados y serán entre prospectos y boxeadores de récord negativo.
Al margen de estos eventos, se pueden mencionar estos otros:
-En el resort Trump Turnberry de Turnberry, Reino Unido, Fightzone emitirá una bien emparejada pelea del peso crucero entre el local David Jamieson 7(5KO)-1 y el sueco-azerí Samo Jangirov 7(1KO)-2-1, combate que parece una muy buena oportunidad para que el primero consiga experiencia de calidad.
-En el Big Punch Arena de Tijuana, México, el invicto Gustavo Ángel González 10(8KO)-0 afrontará su combate más exigente hasta la fecha peleando en el peso superpluma contra el competente Ulises Suárez 9(6KO)-3-1.
Sábado 19 de febrero
Ciertamente, el choque no lo merece en absoluto, pero el duelo de este fin de semana que recibirá una mayor atención será el que disputarán en el peso wélter Kell Brook y Amir Khan, pugna que tenía interés hace 8 años y que ahora simplemente es una excusa para que ambos consigan una última buena bolsa.

De todos modos, en el sábado habrá más actividad relevante, como una eliminatoria WBC del peso ligero entre el joven Zaur Abdullaev y el veterano excampeón mundial Jorge Linares, choque que será el principal de una velada rusa en la que Mark Urvanov disputará una eliminatoria WBA superpluma y en la que se enfrentarán dos púgiles de buena carrera amateur como Ivan Kozlovsky y Zoravor Petrosyan.

Por otro lado, DAZN retransmitirá una cartelera en la que el número 1 WBC y WBO del peso medio Jaime Munguía seguirá posponiendo una crucial pugna en la categoría encarando un choque en el que será abrumador favorito ante D’Mitrius Ballard, que llega de una muy mala actuación.

También vale la pena destacar un enfrentamiento del peso pesado en el que fortísimo prospecto Arslanbek Makhmudov afrontará otra prueba más a su pegada midiéndose al exaspirante mundial, de gran encaje, Mariusz Wach.

Makhmudov no será el único ranqueado mundial del peso pesado que combatirá este sábado, ya que el 9º WBA Zhan Kossobutskiy 17(16KO)-0 encabezará una velada organizada por Universum desde su gimnasio en Hamburgo, Alemania, y emitida por YouTube. En ella, el imbatido se medirá al exretador mundial Johann Duhaupas 39(26KO)-6(3), un púgil que sólo ha disputado un sencillo combate desde su derrota en un round contra Tony Yoka y que difícilmente podrá ofrecer oposición seria al noqueador Kossobutskiy.
Acompañando a este enfrentamiento, el prospecto cubano del peso pesado José Larduet 7(6KO)-0 encarará un combate contra un boxeador ambicioso y con un par de victorias meritorias como Dusan Veletić 5(3KO)-0-1 y el peso wélter Freddy Kiwitt 20(11KO)-3 se enfrentará al invicto campeón de Francia Nurali Erdogan 12(1KO)-0.
Pasando al Hala Orbita de Breslavia, Polonia, PolSat Sport televisará un cartel en el que los pesos cruceros Nikodem Jezewski 20(9KO)-1(1)-1, que perdió en 2020 contra el campeón mundial WBO Lawrence Okolie, y Arthur Mann 17(9KO)-2(2), que perdió el año pasado contra el monarca mundial IBF Mairis Briedis, se enfrentarán buscando una victoria decisiva que les permita regresar a los rankings y poner sus miras en una nueva pelea en la parte alta. Además, en el respaldo el prometedor peso supermedio cubano Osleys Iglesias 4(4KO)-0, varias veces plata nacional como amateur que como profesional no ha pasado todavía del segundo asalto, dará un paso adelante, aunque uno que debería superar ampliamente, contra un Robert Racz 25(22KO)-2 que aguantó diez rounds contra el 4º WBO e IBF Aslambek Idigov.

-En el Polideportivo Municipal de Monte Hermoso, Argentina, TyC Sports emitirá un campeonato argentino del peso superpluma en el que el titular Kevin Leonel Acevedo 20(6KO)-4(1)-3, que cayó contra pronóstico y por KO en su última pelea, disputará un interesante combate de revancha contra el correoso Javier Herrera 17(8KO)-5-1.
-En el Maryland Live Casino de Hanover, Estados Unidos, se producirá un combate del peso supermedio con sentido entre Demond Nicholson 24(20KO)-4(2)-1, que fue superado a los puntos por Edgar Berlanga el año pasado, y un Gabriel Pham 15(8KO)-2(1) con alguna victoria mencionable y cuya única derrota reciente llegó contra el oro mundial Ievgen Khytrov.
-En el Arena de Villa Carlos Paz, Argentina, Direct Tv televisará un campeonato por el vacante cinturón de Sudamérica del peso superwélter entre un Adrián Marcelo Sasso 17(8KO)-3 con más experiencia pero que perdió recientemente este título y un Nicolás David Verón 8(3KO)-7(1)-1 de récord menos brillante pero que llega de una meritoria actuación ante el prospecto Guido Schramm.
-En el Sports Event Center de Rock Hill, Estados Unidos, el invicto peso superwélter Ermal Hadribeaj 11(6KO)-0-1 afrontará una pelea de desarrollo contra un Daniel Baiz 14(6KO)-3(1)-1 que hace nueve meses fue vencido sólo de forma dividida contra un prospecto imbatido.

Unlike other previous weeks, this time there will be interesting activity both on Friday and Saturday with fights between prospects, tests for promising boxers against veterans and some clashes with well-known names but in fights with little sense. In any case, we will have no problem finding bouts to pay attention to in this weekend.
Friday February 18
In this day stands out a new event of ShoBox: The New Generation, which this time will take place at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, United States. This evening broadcasted by Showtime will have as main event a very interesting lightweight duel in which the undefeated Jamaine Ortiz 14(8KO)-0-1 and Nahir Albright 14(7KO)-1 will clash in a ten rounder. The theoretical favorite is Ortiz, although he comes from falling to the canvas twice in his draw against Joseph Adorno, something that is not the best of precedents for a fight against Albright, who comes from the biggest victory of his career, in which he dropped four times the prospect Michael Dutchover.
In the co-feature, a good boxer who has been seen on PBC bills, Paul Kroll 9(6KO)-0, will fight at super welterweight against Marquis Taylor 12(1KO)-1-1, who has several notable victories but who had a draw against Lucas Santamaría, whom Kroll clearly defeated.

Certainly, the is not worth of it at all, but the duel that will receive the most attention this weekend will be the one between Kell Brook and Amir Khan, welterweight fight that had interest 8 years ago but that now is simply an excuse for both boxers to get one last good purse. In any case, on Saturday there will be more relevant activity, such as a WBC lightweight eliminator between the young Zaur Abdullaev and the veteran former world champion Jorge Linares. This will be the main one of a Russian evening in which Mark Urvanov will fight in a WBA super featherweight eliminator and two fighters with good amateur career, Ivan Kozlovsky and Zoravor Petrosyan, will face each other. On the other hand, DAZN will broadcast a bill in which the boxer ranked as number 1 in the WBC and the WBO rankings, Jaime Munguía, will continue to postpone a crucial fight in the division fighting in a match in which he will be the overwhelming favorite against D’Mitrius Ballard, who comes of a very bad performance. Also worth noting is a heavyweight showdown in which stand out prospect Arslanbek Makhmudov will face a test to his punching power against resistant former world challenger Mariusz Wach. Read more following this link.
Makhmudov won’t be the only world-ranked heavyweight fighting this Saturday, as 9th WBA Zhan Kossobutskiy 17(16KO)-0 will headline an event at the Universum Gym in Hamburg, Germany, broadcasted on YouTube. In it, the undefeated will face former world challenger Johann Duhaupas 39(26KO)-6(3), a boxer who has only had a single fight since his one-round loss against Tony Yoka and who can hardly offer serious opposition to the powerful Kossobutskiy.
In the support of this bout, Cuban heavyweight prospect José Larduet 7(6KO)-0 will have a fight against Dusan Veletić 5(3KO)-0-1, a boxer with a couple of meritorious victories, and welterweight Freddy Kiwitt 20(11KO)-3 will face undefeated French national champion Nurali Erdogan 12(1KO)-0.
