El intento de Tim Tszyu de alcanzar el campeonato mundial WBO superwélter en su próxima subida a un ring quedó finalmente neutralizado. Y es que, después de que el equipo del monarca Brian Castaño presentase pruebas de su lesión (que conllevó el aplazamiento de su revancha ante Jermell Charlo), la WBO aceptó aplazar la defensa obligatoria del titular ante Tszyu hasta después de que se hubiese producido la pelea por la corona indiscutida Charlo-Castaño II.
Por ello, para mantener contento a Tszyu y a su equipo y evitar que desperdicie el campamento de entrenamiento para una programada pugna (que iba a ser parte del respaldo del Charlo-Castaño II antes de que fuese aplazado), PBC y Showtime han encontrado una solución. Según informó primero Keith Idec, Tszyu encabezará una velada el día 26 de marzo desde The Armory de Minneapolis, Estados Unidos, enfrentándose al mismo rival contra el que habría peleado en el respaldo del Charlo-Castaño II, el estadounidense Terrell Gausha.
Gausha es un olímpico con experiencia de calidad como profesional, puesto que se ha medido a Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout y Erickson Lubin. Con todo, aunque llega de un triunfo en dos rounds sobre Jamontay Clark en marzo de 2021, Gausha no ganó ninguno de sus tres mayores duelos, está mucho más cerca del final que del comienzo de su carrera y tendrá una evidente desventaja en potencia sobre el enrachado y confiado pegador Tszyu. De ese modo, aunque el local quizás pueda dar algunos rounds interesantes y permita al invicto adquirir experiencia, la estrella en ascenso Tszyu será claro favorito para imponerse y con ello mostrar su nivel de amenaza ante el público estadounidense.

Tim Tszyu‘s attempt to fight in a WBO super welterweight world championship on his next bout was finally thwarted. When the team of the titlist Brian Castaño presented evidence of his injury (which led to the postponement of his rematch against Jermell Charlo), the WBO agreed to postpone the mandatory defense of the belt holder against Tszyu after the Charlo-Castaño II.
Therefore, to keep Tszyu and his team happy and prevent him from wasting his training camp for a scheduled fight (which was going to be part of the Charlo-Castaño II undercard before the event was postponed), PBC and Showtime have found a solution. Gausha is an Olympic with quality experience as a professional, as he has faced Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout and Erickson Lubin. Still, despite he is coming of a two-round win over Jamontay Clark in March 2021, Gausha hasn’t won any of his three biggest duels, is close to the end of his career, and will have a crucial power disadvantage over the confident puncher Tszyu. So while the local may be able to put in some interesting rounds and allow the undefeated to gain experience, rising star Tszyu will be the clear favorite to win and try to showcase his threat level to the American public.
