La temporada alta boxística seguirá ofreciéndonos esta semana una gran cantidad de combates destacables, incluidos varios solapamientos de eventos interesantes. Por ello, con campeones, excampeones, prospectos y contendientes participando en las numerosas pugnas de las próximas jornadas, habrá mucho a lo que prestar atención.
Jueves 24 de marzo
En una velada con más de una decena de combates emitida a través de Facebook desde el Evolution Club de Tijuana, México, se producirá una mencionable pugna del peso mosca entre el estadounidense Josué Morales 22(7KO)-12-4, boxeador con varias actuaciones muy meritorias pese a su número de derrotas, y el mexicano Arnulfo Salvador Rodríguez 15(9KO)-2(1)-1, que llega de perder contra el peligroso excampeón mundial “Chihuas” Rodríguez. Estos boxeadores intentarán posicionarse bien en el ranking WBC capturando un cinturón menor de este organismo, si bien lo más importante del choque es que el ganador logrará su victoria más significativa hasta la fecha y afianzará sus pretensiones para el futuro próximo.
En la jornada también combatirán, en sedes separadas, un invicto prospecto y un veterano que retorna. Por un lado, en el Hotel Intercontinental de París, Francia, el joven peso superwélter Milan Prat 13(10KO)-0 pondrá a prueba su pegada ante el competente veterano Joel Julio 39(33KO)-10(3), que llega de derribar en una ocasión a un buen púgil como Vadim Tukov. Por otro, en el Melrose Ballroom de Nueva York, Estados Unidos, el exretador mundial del peso medio Curtis Stevens 30(22KO)-7(4) pondrá fin a dos años y medio de inactividad ante el asequible Joshua Conley 16(11KO)-3(2)-1.
Finalmente, desde el Palenque de la Feria de Tepic, México, UFC Fight Pass emitirá un evento en el que el plata mundial juvenil guatemalteco Lester Martínez 10(9KO)-0 tratará de recuperar moral tras su exigente choque ante Raiko Santana enfrentándose en el peso supermedio al mexicano José Luis Zúñiga 16(9KO)-6(3)-1, al que teóricamente debería poder batir antes del límite.
Viernes 25 de marzo
Después de haber ofrecido dos veladas la semana pasada, Probellum continuará su actividad este viernes con un evento encabezado por el duelo del peso superligero entre el participante en eliminatoria Lewis Ritson y el excampeón mundial Dejan Zlaticanin. En el respaldo combatirán el campeón británico Troy Williamson, el plata olímpico Pat McCormack y el peso pluma Thomas Patrick Ward.

En esta jornada se producirá un campeonato mundial en Costa Rica, puesto que la monarca mundial IBF del peso mínimo, la local Yokasta Valle 23(9KO)-2, defenderá su corona contra la japonesa Sana Hazuki 8(2KO)-5-1 en un duelo teóricamente emitido por YouTube. En el cruce la titular Valle será clarísima favorita, ya que, más allá de sus cualidades, ya venció a esta boxeadora con amplias puntuaciones hace algo más de un año, no habiendo peleado Hazuki desde entonces.
Por otro lado, en el Colisee de Trois-Rivières, Canadá, se enfrentarán dos boxeadores con aspiraciones y cualidades como el exclasificado local Michael Zewski 35(23KO)-2(1) y el exretador mundial mexicano Carlos “Chema” Ocampo 32(20KO)-1(1). Este es un duelo con mucho sentido entre dos púgiles capaces y con un buen estado de forma, logrando el ganador seguramente un posición elevada en las clasificaciones. Además, la pelea servirá para evaluar cuál de los dos ha seguido una línea más adecuada en los últimos años, si un Zewski con más experiencia de calidad o un Ocampo con más triunfos pero ante rivales de menor nivel.
En el respaldo, el muy prometedor superligero Movladdin Biyarslanov 9(7KO)-0 afrontará un test contra el mexicano Roberto Verdugo 10(4KO)-3(1)-1 y el peso wélter Sebastien Bouchard 19(8KO)-2(1) intentará sumar su segunda victoria consecutiva ante la dura piedra de toque Ricardo Lara 22(10KO)-9(3).
En teoría, aunque han habido muy pocas informaciones respecto al evento, este viernes se producirá una velada de MTK Global desde Kazajistán (y ofrecida por YouTube) en la que el destacado prospecto del peso crucero Kamshybek Kunkabayev 3(2KO)-0 se enfrentará al experimentado sudafricano Johnny Muller 23(14KO)-9(4)-2. De materializarse el enfrentamiento, esta será una nueva buena oportunidad para comprobar cómo de rápido se está desarrollando el bronce olímpico Kunkabayev y cuál es su capacidad de definición midiéndose a un púgil que fue rival de Usyk, Mchunu, etc.
Otro evento que se supone que será ofrecido a través de YouTube es el que se desarrollará en el Whitesands Events Center de Plant City, Estados Unidos, y que contará con el enfrentamiento del peso superligero entre el elusivo excampeón de Europa Mohammed Mimoune 22(3KO)-4 y el invicto estadounidense Cesar Francis 9(6KO)-0. En esta pelea, un veterano que quiere volver tras dos años de inactividad y una derrota controvertida se medirá a un contrincante que busca impulsar fuertemente su trayectoria logrando su mayor victoria hasta la fecha. Además, el peso pesado alemán Christian Thun 7(5KO)-0 buscará un nuevo knockout ante Amron Sands 11(9KO)-1(1).
En el viernes se producirán también estos otros combates:
-Desde el Mazurkas Conference Center de Varsovia, Polonia, PolSat Sport ofrecerá un combate en el que el invicto Lukasz Stanioch 7(1KO)-0 afrontará una nueva seria prueba ante el excampeón de Europa Hadillah Mohoumadi 23(16KO)-5(1)-1.
-En el Big Punch Arena de Tijuana, México, emitido por Facebook, el exretador mundial del peso supermosca Alexandro Santiago 24(13KO)-3-5 buscará rebotar de su cuestionada derrota ante Gary Antonio Russell midiéndose en el peso gallo al resistente Juan Daniel “El Tubo” Ramírez 14(8KO)-4.
-Desde el Gimnasio Municipal José Neri Santos de Ciudad Juárez, México, ESPN Knockout emitirá un combate entre el imbatido prospecto local Bryan Flores 20(12KO)-0-1 y el argentino Néstor Adrián Maidana 10(7KO)-9(4)-1.
Sábado 26 de marzo
El único campeonato mundial del sábado será el IBF del peso pluma en el que el monarca Kiko Martínez pondrá en juego su corona en una interesante revancha ante el extitular Josh Warrington. Esta velada de Matchroom y DAZN contará en su respaldo con el mundial femenino Román-Bridges, con el duelo Hughes-Walsh y con la participación del prospecto superligero Dalton Smith.

De todos modos, las miradas de muchos estarán centradas este sábado en la velada de PBC y Showtime en la que el aspirante obligatorio WBO del peso superwélter Tim Tszyu disputará una eliminatoria contra el exretador mundial Terrell Gausha. En el respaldo pelearán los invictos Michel Rivera y Jospeh Adorno y el superligero Elvis Rodrigúez pugnará contra Juan José Velasco.

Top Rank y ESPN también ofrecerán una velada en esta jornada, evento que estará encabezado por el retorno al ring del excampeón mundial Miguel Berchelt. Este boxeador iniciará su andadura en el peso ligero enfrentándose a Jeremia Nakathila.

La actividad ni mucho menos termina aquí, sino que habrá otros eventos que destacar. Uno de ellos será el retorno del boxeo al mítico Estadio Luna Park de Buenos Aires, Argentina, desde donde TyC Sports emitirá una cartelera que contará con una interesante eliminatoria IBF del peso ligero entre el invicto Gustavo Daniel Lemos 27(17KO)-0 y el excampeón Lee Selby 28(9KO)-3. Si ver un combate decisivo entre un púgil que afronta una absoluta prueba de fuego y un veterano exmonarca que no quiere alejarse de la cumbre no fuese suficiente, además el ganador logrará una oportunidad obligatoria ante el titular indiscutido del peso ligero que salga del Kambosos-Haney.
Acompañando a esta pelea, entre otros combates, la titular IBF minimosca Evelin Bermúdez 15(5KO)-0-1 tratará de unificar su cinturón con el vacante WBO peleando contra la venezolana Débora Rengifo 16(9KO)-8(3)-1 y el prospecto semipesado Braian Suárez 16(5KO)-0 intentará conseguir otro knockout ante Durval Elías Palacio 9(6KO)-1.
Otro escenario destacado será el Casino de Montreal, Canadá, donde el prometedor peso supermedio Christian Mbilli 20(18KO)-0 tratará de seguir escalando puestos en el ranking WBC enfrentándose al veterano exretador mundial Nadjib Mohammedi 44(27KO)-8(5). Este encuentro estará acompañado por el retorno, tras casi un año y medio de inactividad, del insigne prospecto superwélter Artem Oganesyan 12(10KO)-0 ante un Stephen Danyo 20(7KO)-4-3 nunca batido antes del límite.
También habrá este sábado una velada de BOXXER y Sky desde el Wembley Arena de Londres, Reino Unido, pero esta no será excesivamente interesante. Aun así, se puede destacar el enfrentamiento del peso crucero entre los imbatidos Richard Riakporhe 13(9KO)-0 y Deion Jumah 14(7KO)-0, pelea que quizás no resulte demasiado entretenida pero que teóricamente le servirá al vencedor para verse lanzado a una pugna de mucho calado.
Por lo fácil que se podrá acceder a la emisión, o sea a través de YouTube, vale la pena también destacar el cartel desde el Opera i Filharmonia Podlaska de Bialystok, Polonia, velada que contará con la participación del exretador mundial del peso medio Kamil Szeremeta 21(5KO)-2(2)-1 en una pelea de recuperación ante Sasha Yengoyan 45(26KO)-8-1. Además, el invicto semipesado Pawel Stepien 16(12KO)-0-1 se medirá al fogueado argentino Ezequiel Maderna 27(17KO)-7(3) y el peso supermedio Rafal Wolczecki 5(4KO)-0 peleará en una pugna de adquisición de experiencia contra el experimentandísimo Mateo Verón 29(8KO)-27(9)-3.
El sábado destacan también estos otros eventos:
-En el Arena de Bedzin, Polonia, PolSat Sport televisará un evento en el que el prospecto cubano del peso supermedio Ihosvany Rafael García 6(5KO)-0 se enfrentará a Patrick Rokohl 22(16KO)-1(1) y el prospecto ligero Radomir Obrusniak 5(2KO)-0 se medirá al resistente mexicano Diego Fabián Eligio 22(9KO)-6-1.
-En el Duty Free Tennis Stadium de Dubái, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, el peso crucero Mike Pérez 26(17KO)-3(1)-1 continuará su retorno contra el encajador Vasil Ducar 10(9KO)-4-1 y el 2º WBO minimosca Agustín Gauto 17(12KO)-0 se medirá al filipino Miel Fajardo 7(6KO)-1-2.
-En Fontenay-sous-Bois, Francia, se producirá un campeonato UE por el vacante cinto del peso crucero entre Jean Jacques Olivier 12(9KO)-2(1) y Olivier Vautrain 18(8KO)-3-1.
-En el Emperors Palace de Kempton Park, Sudáfrica, tendrá lugar el segundo combate en el peso pesado de Kevin Lerena 26(13KO)-1 ante Bogdan Dinu 20(16KO)-3(3).
Domingo 27 de marzo
Antes de terminar también se deben destacar dos pugnas el domingo. Una de ellas será el campeonato de Japón por el vacante cinto del peso mínimo que tendrá lugar en el Korakuen Hall de Tokio, Japón, entre Tatsuro Nakashima 11(7KO)-2(2)-1 y el temible, top 5 en los cuatro organismos, Ginjiro Shigeoka 6(5KO)-0, quien es evidente favorito para vencer.
Por otro lado, en Moscú, Rusia, un Rokhman Akhmetkhanov 3(3KO)-0 que ha tenido algunas victorias extrañamente sencillas afrontará un duro test ante un boxeador muy complicado como Artur Osipov 17(11KO)-4-2, que nunca ha sido noqueado y que ha empatado ante ranqueados como Magomed Madiev o Mikalai Vesialov.

The boxing season will continue to offer us a lot of notable fights this week, including several interesting events overlapped. So with champions, former champions, prospects and contenders taking part in the many matches over the next few days, there will be plenty to keep an eye on.
Thursday, March 24
In an evening with more than a dozen fights broadcast through Facebook from the Evolution Club in Tijuana, Mexico, there will be a mentionable flyweight fight between the American Josué Morales 22(7KO)-12-4, a boxer with several performances very meritorious despite his number of defeats, and the Mexican Arnulfo Salvador Rodríguez 15(9KO)-2(1)-1, who comes from losing against the dangerous former world champion «Chihuas» Rodríguez. These boxers will try to position themselves well in the WBC ranking by capturing a minor belt from this organization, although the most important thing about the clash is that the winner will achieve his most significant victory to date and will strengthen his ambitions for the near future.
An undefeated prospect and a returning veteran will also battle at separate venues on the day. After having offered two fight nights last week, Probellum will continue his activity this Friday with an event headlined by the super lightweight matchup between Lewis Ritson and former world champion Dejan Zlaticanin. In this clash the titleholder Valle will be the clear favorite, since, letting aside her qualities, she already beat this boxer with wide scorecard a little over a year ago and Hazuki has not fought since then.
At the Colisee in Trois-Rivières, Canada, two boxers with aspirations and qualities will face each other: Michael Zewski 35(23KO)-2(1) and former world challenger Carlos “Chema” Ocampo 32(20KO)-1(1). This is a very interesting duel between two capable and fit fighters, and the winner will surely achieve a high position in the rankings. In addition, the fight will serve to evaluate which of the two has followed a more appropriate line in the recent years, as Zewski has more quality experience and Ocampo more wins but against lower-level rivals.

In theory, although there has been very little information regarding the event, this Friday there will be an evening of MTK Global from Kazakhstan (and offered by YouTube and ESPN+) in which the outstanding cruiserweight prospect Kamshybek Kunkabayev 3(2KO)-0 will face the experienced South African Johnny Muller 23(14KO)-9(4)-2. If the confrontation materializes, this will be a new good opportunity to check how fast the Olympic bronze medalist Kunkabayev is developing and how good is his finishing ability against a fighter who was rival of Usyk, Mchunu, etc.
Another event that is supposed to be offered through YouTube is the one that will take place at the Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, United States. Saturday, March 26
The only world championship on Saturday will be the one for the IBF featherweight title. In this bout the monarch Kiko Martínez will put his crown on the line in an interesting rematch against former titleholder Josh Warrington. This evening of Matchroom and DAZN will be supported by the Roman-Bridges world championship, the Hughes-Walsh duel and by the participation of super lightweight prospect Dalton Smith. However, the eyes of many will be focused this Saturday on the PBC and Showtime card in which the WBO super welterweight mandatory challenger Tim Tszyu will fight in an eliminator against former world challenger Terrell Gausha. The boxing activity does not end here, as there will be other events to highlight. One of them will be the return of boxing to the mythical Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from where TyC Sports will broadcast a billboard that will feature an interesting IBF lightweight eliminator between the undefeated Gustavo Daniel Lemos 27(17KO)-0 and the former champion Lee Selby 28(9KO)-3. If watching a decisive test for an unbeaten prospect against a veteran former champion wasn’t enough, the winner will also get a mandatory shot at the undisputed lightweight title from the winner of the Kambosos-Haney.
Accompanying this fight, among other matches, the IBF light flyweight titleholder Evelin Bermúdez 15(5KO)-0-1 will try to unify her belt with the vacant WBO fighting against the Venezuelan Débora Rengifo 16(9KO)-8(3)-1 and light heavyweight prospect Braian Suárez 16(5KO)-0 will try to get another knockout against Durval Elías Palacio 9(6KO)-1.
Another prominent bill will be the one at the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada, where super middleweight Christian Mbilli 20(18KO)-0 will try to continue climbing the WBC rankings by facing veteran former world title challenger Nadjib Mohammedi 44(27KO)-8(5). This fight will be supported by the return, after almost a year and a half of inactivity, of the distinguished super welterweight prospect Artem Oganesyan 12(10KO)-0 against Stephen Danyo 20(7KO)-4-3, who has never been beaten by stoppage.
There will also be a BOXXER’s event this Saturday televised by Sky from the Wembley Arena in London, UK, but this will not be overly interesting. Even so, the cruiserweight matchup between the undefeated Richard Riakporhe 13(9KO)-0 and Deion Jumah 14(7KO)-0 stands out, a fight that may not be too entertaining but that theoretically will serve the winner to reach an important oportunity.
