El choque coestelar del evento Martínez-Warrington II fue un mundial femenino IBF del peso gallo en el que la campeona argentina María Cecilia Román 16(0KO)-6-1 fue destronada por la retadora Ebanie Bridges 8(3KO)-1, que tuvo un planteamiento mucho más agresivo y decidido. Las puntuaciones fueron de excesivo 100-91 y de justo doble 97-93.
En el comienzo el encuentro se desarrolló en el centro del ring, situación en la que Bridges utilizó una superior cadencia de golpeo para conectar numerosos hooks arriba y abajo y superar a una Román muy estática e inactiva de manos. Se tuvo que esperar hasta al tercer asalto para empezar a ver a Román sacar sus puños con cierta frecuencia, llegando con algunas manos nítidas en el cuarto round gracias a los constantes descuidos defensivos de la australiana. Con todo, la actividad de la campeona siguió siendo bastante limitada.
Alcanzada la mitad Bridges empezó a dar algunas muestras de cansancio pero, aun así, le bastó tirar de voluntad para llegar con más puños que la monarca, que seguía sin ofrecer ataques firmes y que recibía manos en combinación de forma regular. Eventualmente, Román impactó algún buen golpe de poder, pero estos resultaron tan escasos que no podían decantar la mayoría de los rounds ante una contrincante que lanzó y conectó muchos más puños. Hughes derrotó a Walsh

El astuto y hábil Hughes aprovechó el empuje inicial de su contrincante para conectar grandes contras en directo de izquierda, uppercut zurdo y gancho diestro que superaron a un Walsh voluntarioso pero sin profundidad de recursos. Pese a una inferioridad que resultaba cada vez más clara con el paso de los minutos, Walsh continuó apoyándose esencialmente en su voluntad y tesón para avanzar frontalmente en búsqueda de conectar hooks, planteamiento que le dio sólo éxitos parciales ante la buena defensa, el control de los espacios y la precisión en la respuesta de Hughes.
Como Hughes no es un gran pegador y Walsh tiene buen encaje, el enfrentamiento quedó estancado, con el favorito usando sus afiladas manos y sus reposicionamientos para superar round tras round a un oponente que no encontraba la forma de lograr éxitos consistentes. Así se mantuvo la pelea ya hasta el final, obteniendo Hughes un triunfo meritorio e incuestionable pero en un combate monótono y poco emocionante.

In the beginning, the match took place in the center of the ring, situation in which Bridges used a superior striking rate to connect numerous hooks up and down and overcome a very static and inactive Roman. Eventually, Roman landed some good power shots, but these were so few that she couldn’t win the rounds against an opponent who threw and landed many more punches. In the end, Roman threw more offensives and tough exchanges took place, but it was too late for the Argentine to avoid defeat.

As Hughes is not a great puncher and Walsh has good chin, the match stalled, with the favorite using his sharp hands and repositioning to overcome round after round his rival, who couldn’t find a way to achieve consistent success. The fight continued in this way until the end, so Hughes achieved a meritorious and unquestionable victory but in a monotonous and unexciting fight.
