Cody Crowley impuso su ritmo y resistencia ante el veterano Josesito López

En el arranque del PPV del Spence-Ugás, el peso wélter canadiense Cody Crowley 21(9KO)-0 logró una victoria de continuación ante el veterano estadounidense Josesito “The Riverside Rocky” López 38(21KO)-9(3) quien, cerca de un año y medio después de su último combate, fue física y boxísticamente inferior a un boxeador muy motivado y con gran resistencia al cansancio. Las puntuaciones de la victoria unánime de Crowley fueron acertadas: 99-90 y doble 98-91.
Con mucho empeño, ambos boxeadores se lanzaron a por la victoria y pronto ofrecieron cruces de golpes (algunos de ellos un tanto desordenados), siendo este el terreno que más favorecía a Crowley, quien efectivamente se llevó la mejor parte estremeciendo a López en el segundo asalto con un cruzado diestro. En adelante el veterano “Riverside Rocky” trató de usar su experiencia y su oportunismo, conectando algún afilado recto o ciertos ganchos al torso entre oscilaciones tácticas, pero en líneas generales el elevado ritmo combativo de Crowley le superó, viéndose López desgastado relativamente pronto por los zurdazos, los cruzados diestros y los hooks al cuerpo del canadiense.
En repetidas ocasiones López se tambaleó, teniendo además un lenguaje corporal que mostraba que estaba pasando dificultades, problemas que sólo compensaba parcialmente a base de valentía. Con todo, aunque en algún momento incluso trató de atacar, López siguió siendo castigado por las series de puños de Crowley, que tuvo algunos buenos detalles técnicos cediendo la iniciativa y que en el séptimo asalto sumó un knockdown al impactar un cruzado diestro (un tanto en la parte de atrás de la cabeza) a la vez que las piernas de ambos chocaban.
Con triunfos consecutivos ante el número 1 IBF Abdukakhorov y Josesito López en veladas televisadas, Crowley se ha dado a conocer en Estados Unidos y está clasificado en el top 15 de dos organismos, por lo que parece cuestión de tiempo que acceda a un enfrentamiento de gran calado ante un púgil con aspiraciones y renombre de la parte alta del peso wélter.

At the beginning of the Spence-Ugás PPV, the Canadian welterweight Cody Crowley 21(9KO)-0 achieved a new victory against the American veteran Josesito «The Riverside Rocky» López 38(21KO)-9(3) who, near a year and a half after his last fight, was physically and tactically inferior to a very motivated boxer with great stamina. The scorecards for Crowley’s unanimous decision victory were fair: one 99-90 and double 98-91.
At the start, both boxers fought for the victory with determination and soon offered exchanges (some of them messy), this being the kind of bout that favored Crowley, who actually got better results and staggered López in the second round with a right hook. From then on the veteran “Riverside Rocky” tried to use his experience and opportunism, landing a few sharp straight punches or some hooks to the body, but in general Crowley outworked him with his punch rate. In addition, López was worn down relatively quickly by the left hands, right hooks and punches to the body by the Canadian.
In repeated occasions López was shook, having also a body language that showed that he was having difficulties, problems that he only partially compensated with courage. All in all, although at some point he even tried to attack, López continued to be punished by the series of punches from Crowley, who had some good technical moves without initiative and who in the seventh round scored a knockdown when he landed a right hook (a bit on the back of the head) as their legs collided.
With back-to-back wins against IBF No. 1 Abdukakhorov and Josesito López on televised cards, Crowley has become known in the United States and is ranked in the top 15 by two organizations, so it seems only a matter of time before he accesses to a fight of great importance against a boxer with aspirations and notoriety of the upper part of the welterweight division.
