Triunfos de Salmon, Bommber, Somerville y Gipp, empate de Ross y Putorak, en el respaldo del Zerafa-Hardman

La eliminatoria Zerafa-Hardman y el mundial Johnson-Esquivel fueron acompañados por cinco enfrentamientos, entre ellos el choque femenino del peso superpluma entre Carly Salmon 2(0KO)-0 y Krystina Jacobs 5(0KO)-3(1). En él se impuso Salmon por decisión unánime (doble 58-56 y un 59-55).
No fue la pelea más ordenada o vistosa, ya que las púgiles entraron en numerosos clinches entre sus embarrados encontronazos. En cualquier caso, tanto por su insistencia en el golpeo entre agarres como con sus salteadas pero precisas manos cruzadas en los intervalos con algo de espacio, Salmon marcó la diferencia a su favor. Ciertamente, la invicta no debió haberse encimado tanto y tendría que haber insistido en sus entradas y salidas, pero su victoria fue clara y merecida.
Por KOT en el cuarto episodio se impuso el peso supermedio australiano Benjamin Bommber 4(4KO)-0 al tailandés Waiwit Nareeruk 8(6KO)-7(3).
Activo y con buena ejecución de golpeo, Bommber llegó con su jab, con sólidos uno-dos y ganchos zurdos abajo contra Nareeruk, que en gran medida se centró en bloquear y evitar ser noqueado. Más allá de llegar con alguna muy aislada derecha a la contra, el tailandés fue golpeado de forma constante por fuertes golpes de poder hasta que cayó en el tercer asalto por un par de derechas. Nareeruk alcanzó el cuarto round, pero entonces Bommber le volvió a derribar con una combinación de cruzados diestros y uppercut zurdo, finalizando la pelea.
Este enfrentamiento fue precedido por la victoria en el segundo asalto del alto peso superwélter (1,90 m, 6’3”) Campbell Somerville 2(2KO)-0 sobre el debutante Lawrence Glover 0(0KO)-1(1).
Como había una importante diferencia en altura entre ambos, al comienzo Glover trató de acortar la distancia y trabajar con sus hooks, pero su empuje fue contenido por las contras de Somerville, que pronto tomó la iniciativa y comenzó a castigar con tensos puños en directo, uppercut y hook. Glover quedó tocado y tambaleante, por lo que Somerville le siguió golpeando, destacando potentes uppercuts, hasta que su rival cayó en el segundo asalto y el árbitro decretó acertadamente el KOT.
El Salmon-Jacobs no fue el único combate femenino del respaldo, puesto que también se produjo una pelea del peso superwélter entre las debutantes Kim-Alina Ross 0(0KO)-0-1 y Zoe Putorak 0(0KO)-0-1, buen choque en el que las púgiles empataron (39-37, 37-39 y 38-38).
Ross tenía ventaja en técnica y conectó nítidas derechas a la contra en directo, cruzado y uppercut. Sin embargo, Putorak presionaba sin descanso con una notable cadencia de golpes. Los dos primeros asaltos fueron contendidos entre las nítidas manos de una y la cadencia de otra, pero en los dos últimos rounds la musculada Ross estaba muy cansada y sus precisos contragolpes no compensaron las andanadas de rectos de Putorak, que la alcanzó con bastantes puños contra las cuerdas. En cualquier caso, el resultado estuvo dentro de lo razonable, ya que Putorak tuvo en la primera mitad bastantes momentos de imprecisión y recibió manos contundentes.
La velada se inició con una brevísima pelea del peso semipesado en la que el invicto local Jack Gipp 5(3KO)-0 terminó en un minuto y medio su combate contra el fiyiano Lepani Levatia 1(1KO)-6(3). El derrotado Levatia cayó cuatro veces al tapiz (tres de ellas con cuenta) a causa de directos descendentes que le alcanzaron agachado, aparentemente varios de ellos en la parte trasera de la cabeza. No obstante, el árbitro dio por buenos los golpes y dio por finalizado el combate tras la última de las caídas.

It was a bit of a messy duel, as the fighters got into numerous clinches between their entangled attacks. In any case, both by her insistence striking while being held and by her sporadic but precise overhands in the intervals with some distance, Salmon made the difference in her favor. Certainly, the undefeated should not have gotten so close to her rival and she should have insisted coming in and out, but her victory was clear and deserved.
By TKO in the fourth episode, the Australian super middleweight Benjamin Bommber 4(4KO)-0 defeated the Thai Waiwit Nareeruk 8(6KO)-7(3).
Active and with good punching technique, Bommber connected his jab, solid one-twos and left hooks to the body against Nareeruk, who focused on blocking and trying to avoid getting knocked out. Beyond a few very isolated counter right hands, the Thai was consistently hit by hard power punches until he was dropped in the third round by two right hands. Nareeruk reached the fourth round, but then Bommber dropped him again with a combination of right hooks and left uppercut, ending the fight.
This match was preceded by the second round victory of the tall super welterweight (1.90m, 6′ 3”) Campbell Somerville 2(2KO)-0 over debutant Lawrence Glover 0(0KO)-1(1).
As there was a significant difference in height between the two, Glover initially tried to reduce the distance and work with his hooks, but his push was held back by Somerville’s counters, who soon took the initiative and began to punish with tense uppercuts, hooks and straight punches. Glover was hurt and wobbly, so Somerville continued to hit him, standing out powerful uppercuts, until his rival fell to the canvas in the second round and the referee correctly stopped the bout.
The Salmon-Jacobs wasn’t the only female bout in the undercard, as there was also a super welterweight match between debutants Kim-Alina Ross 0(0KO)-0-1 and Zoe Putorak 0(0KO)-0-1. This good match ended with a draw (39-37, 37-39 and 38-38).
Ross had the advantage in technique and landed crisp counter right hands with straight punches, overhands and uppercuts. However, Putorak pressed relentlessly with a remarkable frecuency of punches. The first two rounds were quite even between the sharp hands of one and the punch output of the other, but in the last two rounds the muscular Ross was very tired and her precise counterpunches did not compensate Putorak’s combinations of straight punches, which hit her rival on the ropes. In any case, the result was reasonable, as Putorak had quite a few moments of inaccuracy in the first half and she received hard shots.
The evening began with a very brief light heavyweight fight in which the undefeated local Jack Gipp 5(3KO)-0 beat the Fijian Lepani Levatia 1(1KO)-6(3) in a minute and a half. The defeated Levatia fell to the mat four times (three of them with count) by straight punches that hit him crouched, apparently several of the shots landing in the back of the head. However, the referee considered the blows as valid and ended the fight after the last of the knockdowns.
