La francesa Cassandra Crevecoeur no fue la única boxeadora que el viernes ofreció todo lo que tenía sobre el ring para intentar coronarse campeona de Europa, dado que la británica Kirstie “Bavvo” Bavington 6(2KO)-2-2 realizó también una actuación repleta de combatividad y ambición, aunque quizás no tan ordenada. En base a sus constantes ataques, Bavington derrotó por amplia decisión unánime (100-90, 99-91 y 99-92) a la voluntariosa húngara Timea Belik 5(2KO)-5(1), logrando la corona continental wélter.
Bavington era consciente de que era la mayor oportunidad de su carrera, así que salió a presionar sin perder tiempo. Belik se desplazó y trató de responder, sacando alguna buena derecha a la contra, pero ya en el primer asalto se vio agobiada por el trabajo ofensivo de “Bavvo”, quien conectó duros ganchos abajo y derechas arriba que obligaron a su rival a agarrarse. En los momentos finales de los dos rounds posteriores dio la sensación de que la resistencia de Belik podía verse colmada, pero ésta sobrellevó los momentos de dificultad a base de voluntad y valentía para llegar al minuto de descanso y recuperarse ligeramente.
En cualquier caso, las energías de la húngara se estaban reduciendo por el continuado despliegue ofensivo de Bavington, especialmente sus hooks al torso, y esto, cuanto menos, le permitía a la local ir ganando los asaltos con claridad y crear una crucial ventaja favorable. Es cierto que, además, Belik tocó varias veces la lona, pero todas esas caídas fueron provocadas por empujones hacia abajo de la agresiva Bavington, por lo que el árbitro, acertadamente, no realizó cuenta.
Ayudada por un decisivo segundo aire (y por una gran preparación física), pasada la mitad Belik no se vio tan presionada e incluso por momentos aceleró sus desplazamientos, su única salida para reducir la cantidad de golpes recibidos. Pero “Bavvo” siguió persiguiendo y castigando hasta que de nuevo la visitante se vio apurada en el octavo round, en el que fue ligeramente tambaleada. En adelante Belik tuvo que recurrir a los clinches, a los movimientos y a los golpes a la desesperada, cosa que le sirvió para evitar ser batida por KOT o padecer un knockdown, pero que no pudo impedir que fuese derrotada con amplitud
Con un par de empates ante púgiles de récord negativo y un par de amplias derrotas ante prospectas, Bavington no estaba en una posición ideal en su carrera precisamente hasta hace bien poco, siendo su récord 3-2-2 y pudiendo parecer que estaba destinada a convertirse en una piedra de toque. Sin embargo, aprovechando la experiencia adquirida, “Bavvo” le ha dado la vuelta a su carrera, primero asestándole la primera derrota a una April Hunter que ha recibido bastante atención de los medios británicos y posteriormente coronándose campeona de Europa.
Quién sabe si en el futuro próximo tendrá que encarar peleas que no le resultarán favorables, pero por el momento ha logrado ya en dos combates más de lo que muchas púgiles consiguen en toda su trayectoria, teniendo además el mérito de conseguirlo dejando atrás un mal momento.

The French Cassandra Crevecoeur was not the only boxer who did her all in the ring on Friday to try to be crowned European champion, since the British Kirstie «Bavvo» Bavington 6(2KO)-2-2 also had a performance full of combativeness and ambition, although perhaps not so tactically ordered. Based on her constant attacks, Bavington defeated by wide unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91 and 99-92) the willful Hungarian Timea Belik 5(2KO)-5 (1), capturing the continental welterweight belt.
Bavington knew it was the biggest opportunity of her career, so she pressed without wasting any time. Belik moved and tried to answer, landing some good right hands on the counter, but already in the first round she was overwhelmed by the offensive work of “Bavvo”, who connected hard hooks down and rights to the head that forced her rival to hold. In the final moments of the next two rounds it seemed that Belik’s resistance could be broken, but she overcame the moments of difficulty leaning on her will and courage to reach the minute of rest and recover slightly.
In any case, the Hungarian’s energies were being reduced due to Bavington’s continued offensives, especially her hooks to the body, and this, if nothing else, allowed the local to clearly win the rounds and create a crucial favorable advantage. It is true that Belik touched the canvas several times, but all those falls were caused by downward pushes from the aggressive Bavington, so the referee, correctly, did not count.
Aided by a decisive second wind (and by a great physical preparation), after the half point Belik was not so pressured and at times she even accelerated her movements, her only way out to reduce the amount of hands received. But “Bavvo” kept chasing and punishing until the visitor was in trouble again in the eighth round, in which she was slightly wobbled. From then on, Belik had to resort to clinches, movements, and desperate punches, which helped her to avoid being beaten by TKO or suffering a knockdown, but could not prevent her from being widely defeated.
With a pair of draws to losing-record fighters and a pair of losses to prospects, Bavington wasn’t exactly in an ideal position in her career until recently, being her record 3-2-2. However, taking advantage of the experience gained, “Bavvo” has turned her career around, first defeating the unbeaten April Hunter (who has received a lot of attention from the British media) and later conquering the European champion belt.
Who knows if in the near future she will have to face fights that will not be favorable to her, but for the moment she has already achieved in two bouts more than many boxers achieve in their entire career, having also the merit of succeeding leaving behind a bad moment.
