El prospecto mexicano del peso superpluma Bryan “Latino” Acosta 17(6KO)-0 no sólo cumplió con los pronósticos para hacerse con la victoria sobre su compatriota Benito “Canelito” Sánchez García 15(3KO)-6(3)-2 sino que incluso fue más allá logrando un KOT en el décimo asalto. Así, Acosta simplemente afianzó las buenas perspectivas respecto a su carrera y se emplazó a nuevos combates de diez asaltos que le sigan preparando para una futura confrontación decisiva en la que intentar dar un importante impulso a sus aspiraciones.
Respecto al peso superligero irlandés Lee Reeves 9(6KO)-1, este obtuvo su mayor victoria hasta la fecha venciendo por máximas cartulinas (triple 80-72) al mexicano Sebastián “El Verdugo” Díaz 17(13KO)-5(2)-1, llevando así a cuatro su racha de triunfos y probablemente asentándose en adelante en las peleas de desarrollo a ocho rounds.

Certificando el cambio de dirección que ha dado a su carrera, la británica Kirstie “Bavvo” Bavington castigó y venció por amplia decisión unánime a la húngara Timea Belik para coronarse campeona de Europa del peso wélter. Crónica y vídeo de la velada siguiendo el enlace:

Más impresionante aún que el triunfo de Bavington fue el de la francesa Cassandra Crevecoeur, que ofreció una presión intensa pero metódica y muy ordenada para derrotar por decisión unánime a Gabriela Timar y capturar el vacante cinturón europeo del peso minimosca.

En el restante combate titular de la jornada, el campeón de Argentina del peso semipesado Franco Acosta retuvo su corona con un espectacular knockout en el tercer asalto sobre un voluntarioso Néstor Campos.

Por lo que se refiere al choque del peso superligero entre Marios Matamba y Kane Gardner, este fue un igualado, interesante y entretenido combate. En él, el visitante Matamba pareció hacer más para merecer el triunfo, pero el juez-árbitro le dio la victoria al local Gardner.

Finalmente, en cuanto al bien emparejado choque del peso wélter entre Reggie Harris Jr. 7(3KO)-0 y Rashid Stevens 6(5KO)-1, el primero fue quien obtuvo la victoria por decisión dividida, importante resultado que debería servirle para lograr más apoyo y oportunidades justo en el momento en que empieza a adquirir experiencia en peleas de ocho asaltos.

Parecía casi imposible que los jueces fuesen a reconocer el triunfo del ruso-kirguiso Dmitriy Bivol, pero este campeón mundial WBA del peso semipesado ofreció una actuación tan buena y fue tan superior a Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez (al que frustró e incomodó durante gran parte del combate) que finalmente logró obtener la victoria por decisión unánime.

En el semifondo del evento, el peso superligero Montana Love derribó en el primer asalto a Gabriel Gollaz antes de sufrir un knockdown en el segundo round. Pero este interesante comienzo fue sucedido por una pelea monótona en la que Love usó su habilidad para vencer por decisión unánime.

Antes de esa pelea, el plata olímpico Shakhram Giyasov sobrellevó los momentos de dificultad y derribó tres veces al pegador Christian Gómez para obtener un triunfo unánime en un duelo del peso wélter.

La cartelera principal del Canelo-Bivol se inició con un triunfo en el primer asalto del peso pesado Zhilei Zhang sobre Scott Alexander, pelea sucedida por una victoria unánime del peso ligero Marc Castro sobre Pedro Vicente Scharbaai.

En cuanto al campeonato mundial WBO del peso supergallo entre la titular francesa Segolene Lefebvre 16(1KO)-0 y la aspirante española Melania Sorroche 18(6KO)-3(1)-2, este duelo terminó con un triunfo por decisión unánime (triple 97-93) de la local, que así defendió su título por primera vez. A no ser que se produzca una unificación próximamente, algo que parece improbable, la clave del reinado de Lefebvre estará en cuál es la regularidad de su rendimiento enfrentándose a rivales diversas, factor que nos permitirá además evaluar mejor hasta dónde llega su nivel.
La gran controversia de la jornada llegó en el duelo del peso crucero entre el olímpico argentino Yamil Peralta 13(6KO)-1 y el canadiense Ryan Rozicki 15(14KO)-1, puesto que los jueces le dieron el triunfo al local Rozicki de forma dividida (97-93, 95-94 y 94-95), si bien este mismo púgil reconoció que había perdido el combate. El WBC ha ordenado una revancha entre ambos con jueces neutrales, pero nuevamente no se ha presionado de ninguna manera para anular el resultado, manteniéndose de momento oficialmente en los récords la “derrota” de Peralta y la “victoria” de Rozicki.
Como se podía esperar, el 4º IBF del peso medio alemán Denis Radovan 16(8KO)-0-1 no tuvo problemas para derrotar en el segundo asalto a Rafael Bejarán 30(16KO)-7(5)-1, quedando a la espera de que se le pueda situar ahora en un enfrentamiento determinante ante un púgil con aspiraciones. Respecto a esto, potenciales combates ante sus compatriotas Patrick Wojcicki y Marten Arsumanjan, respectivamente 3º y 5º IBF, tendrían el máximo sentido.
Terminando el artículo, se pueden mencionar estos otros resultados:
-El peso superwélter rumano Flavius Biea 21(10KO)-1(1) logró una muy cuestionable victoria dividida sobre el argentino Ricardo Rubén Villalba 20(8KO)-6(3)-1, por lo que sobre el papel extendió a nueve su racha de triunfos pero dejó claro que en un nuevo paso adelante en aumento de dificultad se podría quedar muy corto.
-El prospecto neozelandés del peso crucero David Light 18(11KO)-0 tuvo un exitoso debut estadounidense terminando en el primer round con Anthony Martínez 12(11KO)-2(1), victoria que le servirá para mantenerse en el ranking WBO pero que no le dio el necesario rodaje. En la misma velada, el peso pesado cubano Lenier Pero 7(4KO)-0 derrotó por KOT en el tercer asalto a Héctor Pérez 7(3KO)-5(2).
-La revancha entre los peso crucero Benjamin Kelleher 15(4KO)-5(3)-2 y Peter Sa’lesui 10(7KO)-0-1 volvió a ser muy igualada y a resolverse a favor del segundo, que conservó su invicto con una decisión dividida (76-75, 75-76 y 77-74).
-El peso mosca tailandés Tanes Ongjunta 10(5KO)-1(1) derrotó por KOT en el sexto asalto a su compatriota Jakrawut Majungoen 41(20KO)-2(2)-1, acercándose un paso más hacia la parte alta del ranking WBA (en el que es 7º) y poniendo sus miras en próximas peleas más significativas.
-El peso supermedio mexicano César Tapia 14(9KO)-0 puso fin a su inactividad de más de un año derrotando al argentino Rolando Mansilla 18(8KO)-10(5)-1 por KOT en el octavo asalto, siendo posible que pueda aparecer en próximas listas WBA por estar en juego en la pelea un título menor de dicho organismo.
-El prospecto del peso superligero francés Jaouad Belmehdi 15(7KO)-0-3 se convirtió en el primero en batir antes del límite a Luca Maccaroni 17(5KO)-9(1)-4 con un KOT en el sexto asalto, pareciendo que debería intentar maniobrar para situarse como coaspirante al vacante cinturón UE.

The Mexican super featherweight prospect Bryan “Latino” Acosta 17(6KO)-0 not only fulfilled the predictions to win over his compatriot Benito “Canelito” Sánchez García 15(3KO)-6(3)-2 but he even went further achieving a TKO in the tenth round. Thus, Acosta simply consolidated the good prospects regarding his career, and probably will continue fighting in ten-rounders to prepare for a future decisive confrontation in which try to give an important boost to his aspirations.
Regarding the Irish super lightweight Lee Reeves 9(6KO)-1, he obtained his greatest victory to date beating the Mexican Sebastián “El Verdugo” Díaz 17(13KO)-5(2)-1 by unanimous decision (triple 80-72), thus taking his winning streak to four and probably settling down in eight-round developmental fights from now on.

Confirming the change of direction that she has given to her career, the British Kirstie “Bavvo” Bavington punished and defeated the Hungarian Timea Belik by wide unanimous decision to be crowned European welterweight champion. Article and video of the evening following the link.
Even more impressive than Bavington’s win was the one obtained by Cassandra Crevecoeur, who used intense but methodical and very ordered pressure to defeat Gabriela Timar by unanimous decision. With the win Crevecoeur captured the vacant European light flyweight belt. Read more following the link.

The super lightweight clash between Marios Matamba and Kane Gardner was a close, interesting and entertaining bout. In it, the visitor Matamba seemed to do more to deserve the victory, but the judge-referee gave the victory to the local Gardner. Read more following the link.
Finally, as for the well-matched welterweight fight between Reggie Harris Jr. 7(3KO)-0 and Rashid Stevens 6(5KO)-1, the former was the one who won by split decision, important success that should help him achieve more support and opportunities just as he begins to gain experience in eight-round fights.

It seemed almost impossible that the judges were going to recognize the triumph of the Russian-Kyrgyz Dmitriy Bivol, but this WBA light heavyweight world champion offered such a good performance and was so superior to Saúl «Canelo» Álvarez (whom he frustrated for much of the fight) that he finally managed to obtain victory by unanimous decision. In the co-main event, super lightweight Montana Love dropped Gabriel Gollaz in the first round before suffering a second round knockdown. However, this interesting start was followed by a monotonous fight in which Love used his ability to win by unanimous decision. Read more following the link.
Prior to that fight, Olympic silver Shakhram Giyasov overcame the difficulties and knocked down hard-hitting Christian Gomez three times to earn a unanimous decision win in a welterweight fight. Read more following the link.
The Canelo-Bivol main card kicked off with a first-round win for heavyweight Zhilei Zhang over Scott Alexander, followed by a unanimous decision victory for lightweight Marc Castro over Pedro Vicente Scharbaai. Read more following the link.
Regarding the WBO super bantamweight world championship between the French titleholder Segolene Lefebvre 16(1KO)-0 and the Spanish contender Melania Sorroche 18(6KO)-3(1)-2, this duel ended with a win by unanimous decision (triple 97-93) of the local, who thus defended her title for the first time. Unless a unification take place soon, something that seems unlikely, the key to Lefebvre’s reign will be how much regularity she has facing diverse rivals, something that will also allow us to better assess how good really is her level.
The great controversy of the day came in the cruiserweight duel between the Argentine Olympian Yamil Peralta 13(6KO)-1 and the Canadian Ryan Rozicki 15(14KO)-1, since the judges gave the victory to the local Rozicki by split decision (97-93, 95-94 and 94-95) although this same fighter admitted that he had lost the fight. The WBC has ordered a rematch with neutral judges, but again there has been no pressure to change the result, with Peralta’s “loss” and Rozicki’s “victory” officially remaining on their records for now.
As expected, the 4th IBF German middleweight Denis Radovan 16(8KO)-0-1 had no problem defeating Rafael Bejarán 30(16KO)-7(5)-1 in the second round, so now he waits a decisive confrontation against a fighter with aspirations. Regarding this, potential fights against his compatriots Patrick Wojcicki and Marten Arsumanjan, respectively 3rd and 5th IBF, would make the most sense.
Concluding the article, these other results can be mentioned:
-The Romanian super welterweight Flavius Biea 21(10KO)-1(1) achieved a very questionable split decision victory over the Argentine Ricardo Rubén Villalba 20(8KO)-6(3)-1. -Thai flyweight Tanes Ongjunta 10(5KO)-1(1) defeated his compatriot Jakrawut Majungoen 41(20KO)-2(2)-1 by TKO in the sixth round, moving one step closer to the top of the WBA ranking (in which he is 7th) and setting his sights on more significant fights.
-Mexican super middleweight Cesar Tapia 14(9KO)-0 ended his inactivity beating Argentinian Rolando Mansilla 18(8KO)-10(5)-1 by TKO in the eighth round, being possible that he could appear on future WBA rankings due to the minor title at stake in the fight.
-French super lightweight prospect Jaouad Belmehdi 15(7KO)-0-3 became the first to beat by stoppage Luca Maccaroni 17(5KO)-9(1)-4 with a sixth-round TKO. Now, Belmehdi should try to be named challenger for the vacant EU belt.
