Jason Moloney derrotó en tres rounds a Aston Palicte en duelo de exaspirantes mundiales

En solo tres asaltos, el exaspirante mundial australiano Jason Moloney 24(19KO)-2(1) se deshizo del también exretador mundial filipino Aston Palicte 28(23KO)-5(3)-1 en el semifondo del Kambosos-Haney, manteniéndose rodado y preparado antes de una posible eliminatoria final en el peso gallo.
En el inicio Moloney usó su rapidez y destreza para impactar buenos uno-dos-hook desde la distancia media-larga pero, viendo sus éxitos, pronto optó por posicionarse más cerca de su oponente e intercambiar con reducidos espacios. En esta situación, Palicte impactó algunos duros ganchos y uppercuts que podrían haber hecho que el australiano cambiase de estrategia. Pero, al contrario, Moloney se mantuvo mayoritariamente en la distancia corta hasta que en el tercer round sacó una explosiva derecha recta de reducido recorrido que sorprendió y derribó al tagalo. Palicte se puso en pie, pero una andanada de golpes en la reanudación le hizo caer de nuevo y el árbitro detuvo el choque.
Dado que el WBC ordenó una eliminatoria final entre Moloney y Nawaphon Kaikanha, este teóricamente debería ser el siguiente combate del australiano. No obstante, en su pelea ante Palicte estuvo en juego un cinturón menor WBO que podría llegar a traducirse también en una pelea de antesala titular por este organismo (Moloney es virtualmente 2º WBO). Sea como sea, Moloney está a unos meses de encarar un choque determinante para intentar acceder a un nuevo campeonato mundial en una división en la que quizás podría haber un vacío de poder si se llegase a coronar un campeón indiscutido hacia finales de este año y este posteriormente ascendiese de peso.

In just three rounds, the Australian former world challenger Jason Moloney 24(19KO)-2(1) got rid of the Filipino, also world challenger, Aston Palicte 28(23KO)-5(3)-1 in the co-feature of the event Kambosos-Haney, staying prepared before a possible final eliminator in the bantamweight division.
In the beginning Moloney used his speed and skill to land good one-two-hooks from mid-long range but, seeing his successes, he soon opted to close the distance and exchange with his opponent. In this situation, Palicte connected some hard hooks and uppercuts that could have caused the Aussie to change his strategy. However, Moloney remained mostly in the short distance until in the third round he threw an explosive straight right that surprised and dropped the Filipino. Palicte got to his feet, but a flurry of punches after the restart knocked him down again and the referee stopped the match.
Given that the WBC ordered a final eliminator between Moloney and Nawaphon Kaikanha, this should theoretically be the Australian’s next bout. However, in his fight against Palicte, a minor WBO belt was also at stake, so he could end up fighting in an eliminator for this organization (Moloney is virtually WBO 2nd). Be that as it may, Moloney is months away from facing a crucial clash as he attempts to access a new world championship in a division that could potentially have a power vacuum if an undisputed champion were to be crowned later this year and moved up in weight afterwards.
