El prospecto del peso pesado Justis Huni se proclamó campeón OPBF con victoria sobre el invicto Joseph Goodall

Este miércoles se ha disputado en Australia un combate por el vacante cinturón OPBF del peso pesado, título de ámbito continental por el que han pelado los imbatidos púgiles locales Justis “JPH” Huni 6(4KO)-0 y Joseph Goodall 8(7KO)-1-1. En el enfrentamiento el bronce mundial amateur Huni se ha hecho con la victoria y con el cetro a través de una decisión unánime. Las puntuaciones de los jueces fueron de 100-90, 98-93 y 98-92.
Goodall no se dejó influenciar por la condición de favorito o por el prestigio de su rival y trató de presionarlo y de encerrarlo, algo que consiguió en varios momentos. No obstante, incluso de espaldas a las cuerdas, Huni respondió al avance de su contrincante con fuertes combinaciones de uppercut-hook o con certeros ganchos al torso que fueron de lejos las acciones más llamativas y relevantes de los asaltos.
Con estos éxitos, oportunos reposicionamientos y algunos jabs y directos, Huni se anotó la mayoría de rounds ante un Goodall que, pese a padecer una inflamación en su ojo izquierdo y ser golpeado por puños realmente nítidos, resistió el castigo con entereza y continuó yendo hacia adelante. De hecho, el fuerte Goodall mantuvo su esfuerzo y eventualmente llegó con alguna buena andanada de curvos, pero con esto no logró cambiar la percepción de que, tras los diez asaltos, Huni se había hecho con la victoria claramente.
Sumándose al título OPBF cinturones menores WBO e IBF, Huni debería posicionarse en las listas mundiales y emplazarse a nuevos pasos adelante en su carrera. Todo ello a la vez que Goodall, pese a la derrota, mostró virtudes que le deberían dar acceso a nuevas peleas importantes en su país.
En el combate coestelar de este evento también sumó un triunfo el prospecto neozelandés del peso medio Andrei “Renegade” Mikhailovich 18(11KO)-0, que batió por KOT en el tercer round al venezolano Ernesto España 32(27KO)-4(2)-1 para también apuntar a aparecer en las listas en próximas actualizaciones.

This Wednesday took place in Australia a fight for the vacant OPBF heavyweight belt, continental title for which fought the unbeaten local boxers Justis «JPH» Huni 6(4KO)-0 and Joseph Goodall 8(7KO)-1-1. In this bout, the world amateur bronze medalist Huni obtained the victory and the title through a unanimous decision. The judges’ scores were 100-90, 98-93 and 98-92.
Goodall was not affected by his rival’s favorite status or by his prestige and tried to pressure him and corner him, something he managed to do at various times. However, even with his back to the ropes, Huni responded to his opponent’s advance with hard uppercut-hook combinations or accurate hooks to the body that were by far the most striking and relevant actions of the rounds.
With these successes, opportune repositioning and some jabs and straight rights, Huni won the majority of the rounds against Goodall, who despite suffering a swelling in his left eye and being hit by really sharp fists, withstood the punishment with solidity and kept marching forward. In fact, the strong Goodall continued to put in effort and eventually landed some nice flurries of hooks, but this failed to change the perception that, after ten rounds, Huni had clearly deserved the victory.
Adding to the OPBF title a WBO and an IBF minor belts, Huni should appear in the world rankings and put his sights in further steps forward in his career. All this while Goodall, despite his defeat, showed virtues that should give him access to new important fights in his country.
In the co-main event of this bill, the New Zealander middleweight prospect Andrei “Renegade” Mikhailovich 18(11KO)-0 also scored a victory. Mikhailovich beat the Venezuelan Ernesto España 32(27KO)-4(2)-1 by TKO in the third round to also aim to appear in the world rankings in future updates.
