Ryan García cumplió con lo esperado y se deshizo de Javier Fortuna por knockout

Enfrentándose un boxeador en inadecuado estado de forma, con desventaja en dimensiones, veterano, inconsistente, con la moral baja y que no lidia bien con la presión a un fuerte, motivado y joven pegador, no había margen para las sorpresas. Efectivamente, al estadounidense Ryan García 22(18KO)-0 le bastaron seis rounds para derribar tres veces y derrotar al dominicano Javier “El Abejón” Fortuna 37(26KO)-3(1)-1 en el combate estelar de un evento de Golden Boy Promotions y DAZN.
El directo diestro aislado de García sorprendió varias veces al inicio a Fortuna, que fue sacudido un tanto por un dos-uno en el segundo round. Por su parte, el dominicano no tomaba riesgos, sino que permaneció expectante cercano a las cuerdas, donde realizaba ciertos reposicionamientos, tiraba escasos jabs y contragolpes más eventuales aún. Esta actitud hubiese permitido a “King Ry” generar muy pronto daños con agresivas ofensivas, pero éste tampoco quiso pisar el acelerador demasiado hasta el cuarto asalto.
Entonces García conectó tensas combinaciones de hooks antes de anotarse un knockdown con un gancho al hígado, ganando tiempo Fortuna tirando deliberadamente el protector bucal. “El Abejón” llegó al quinto asalto, pero en este recibió otra cuenta al ser derribado por un cruzado de izquierda al rostro, siendo esto ya definitivamente el inicio del fin. En el sexto episodio Fortuna padeció el tercer knockdown de la pelea a consecuencia de un uno-dos-cruzado, no levantándose durante la completa cuenta del árbitro.
Como sucede después de todos los combates en los que participa un boxeador mediático, la victoria de García se ha visto ya sucedida por muchas especulaciones respecto a posibles duelos ante otros boxeadores destacados. En este caso, se habla de que García quiere enfrentarse a Gervonta Davis, pugna que probablemente no se producirá a continuación, como tampoco lo han hecho tantas otras en circunstancias similares. Lo cierto es que, más que dar por hecho que el García-Davis será lo que veremos en unos meses, quizás nos tengamos que conformar con que García se enfrente la próxima vez por lo menos a un oponente de su tamaño o que salga al ring dispuesto a intentar ganar.

With a boxer in poor shape, with size disadvantage, veteran, inconsistent, with low morale and who doesn’t handle pressure well facing a strong, motivated, young puncher, there was no room for surprises. Indeed, it took American Ryan García 22(18KO)-0 six rounds to knock down three times and defeat Dominican Javier “El Abejón” Fortuna 37(26KO)-3(1)-1 in the main event of a Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN card
Garcia’s isolated right hands surprised Fortuna several times in the first minutes, and a two-one combination rocked him somewhat in the second round. For his part, the Dominican did not take risks, but remained expectantly close to the ropes, where he made certain repositionings, threw few jabs and even more occasional counterattacks. This attitude would have allowed “King Ry” to generate damage very soon with aggressive offensives, but he did not want to step on the accelerator too much until the fourth round.
Garcia then landed hard combinations before scoring a knockdown with a hook to the liver, buying then time Fortuna by deliberately throwing his mouthpiece to the mat. «El Abejón» reached the fifth round, but in it he received another count when he was dropped by a left hook to the face, this being definitely the beginning of the end. In the sixth round Fortuna suffered the third knockdown of the fight as a result of a one-two-hook combination, not getting up during the referee’s full count.
As happens after all the fights in which a mediatic boxer participates, García’s victory has already been followed by many speculations regarding possible duels against other prominent boxers. In this case, it is said that García wants to face Gervonta Davis, a fight that probably will not take place next, as has happened also with so many others in similar circumstances. The truth is that, rather than assuming that the García-Davis will be what we will see in a few months, we may have to settle if García next time faces at least an opponent of his size or willing to try to win.
