Tras años de espera, finalmente se produjo el duelo entre los grandes peso mínimo tailandeses Thammanoon Niyomtrong y Chayaphon Moonsri, entretenido choque en el cual el primero de ambos se impuso por decisión unánime, retuvo su cinturón WBA y se afianzó como número 1 de la división.

En la revancha entre Arblin Kaba y Daniele Zagatti volvió a repetirse el resultado del duelo precedente. Es decir, Kaba se impuso por decisión unánime, por lo que regresó a la senda del triunfo tras perder su título de Italia superligero ante Charlemagne Metonyekpon. En cuanto a Jerome Pampellone 13(7KO)-0, éste dio otro paso adelante venciendo un enfrentamiento del peso crucero ante Joshua “Chucky” Francis 12(9KO)-2(1)-1 por KOT en el sexto asalto. No obstante, Pampellone tiene ahora el mismo problema que tantos otros púgiles neozelandeses: a penas hay rivales potenciales en el circuito de su país y los mayores exponentes (como David Light o David Nyika) suponen un gran peligro o tienen otros objetivos.
Por otro lado, el peso medio Steve Rolls 22(12KO)-2(1) dejó atrás su controvertida derrota ante Edgar Berlanga venciendo al imbatido Shady Gamhour 13(9KO)-1 por decisión unánime de los jueces (doble 97-93 y un 96-94). Rolls es un boxeador competente y que tiene nombres conocidos en su récord, así que es muy posible que reciba una propuesta para hacer de test a un prospecto o a un púgil del top 15 en los últimos meses del año.
Viernes 22 de julio
El peso superpluma George Acosta demostró capacidad de reacción ante las dificultades, ya que quedó tocado en su pelea ante Isaac Avelar pero consiguió recuperarse, derribar a su oponente y hacerse con una merecida victoria por decisión unánime. Vídeo y crónica del combate siguiendo el enlace:

Respecto a la velada de República Dominicana, el stream del evento estuvo fragmentado e incluso hubo problemas con el ring. En cualquier caso, sí se pudo ver que los exretadores mundiales Thomas Dulorme y Lenin Castillo lograron victorias en el tercer asalto sobre, respectivamente, Abraham Peralta y Wilson Santana en rodajes antes de peleas más significativas. Pasando a los eventos mexicanos del viernes, el peso mosca Sergio Mendoza 17(16KO)-0 volvió a demostrar su habilidad para obtener knockouts deshaciéndose del resistente Francisco Gómez 14(11KO)-9(3) en el quinto asalto. Así, habiendo mostrado consistentemente un buen rendimiento, teniendo mucha pegada y sólo 22 años, es evidente que Mendoza está preparado para subir un peldaño en cuanto a aumento de dificultad y empezar a medirse a rivales con más ambición y cualidades que sus últimos rivales.
Algo similar se puede decir del enrachado peso supergallo Jesús “Koreano” Ramírez 20(14KO)-1(1)-3, que batió en el cuarto round a Anthony Jiménez 17(5KO)-4(3)-1 y debería empezar a disputar pugnas pactadas a diez rounds.
En el otro cartel, el peso medio estadounidense Mark Beuke 9(5KO)-3 finalmente no peleó contra el rival original José “Cobra” Gaona 14(9KO)-7(5), sino contra el sustituto Selim “La Maravilla” Martínez 6(2KO)-3(2), ante quien se impuso en dos rounds y, por lo tanto, no pudo sumar los asaltos de experiencia que necesita.
Por su parte, el peso ligero José Luis “La Boa” Rodríguez 26(13KO)-15(5)-1 puso fin a una cadena de tres derrotas consecutivas (aunque ante rivales difíciles) venciendo a Iram Rodríguez 9(2KO)-8(2) por decisión dividida.
Sábado 23 de julio
El exaspirante mundial Joet González tuvo en sus manos el triunfo ante el exmonarca mundial Isaac Dogboe, pero puntuales asaltos en los que tuvo una actividad muy reducida y decidida réplica en corta del ghanés hicieron que la igualada pelea terminase con triunfo del visitante. Así Dogboe ganó una eliminatoria semifinal WBC del peso pluma y subirá también al número 1 del ranking WBO.

En cuanto al semifondo de este evento, Gabriel Flores Jr. vio como su carrera y su rendimiento continúan desmoronándose, ya que fue derribado tres veces y derrotado por decisión unánime a manos del invicto Giovanni Cabrera, quien está siguiendo un camino inverso al de su oponente.

La aspirante venezolana Yairineth Altuve 13(11KO)-4 llegó a la última campana y cortó la racha de knockouts técnicos de la argentina, campeona mundial WBO-IBF del peso minimosca, Evelin “La Princesita” Bermúdez 17(6KO)-0-1. No obstante, Bermúdez igualmente se impuso claramente a través de una decisión unánime (doble 99-91 y un 98-92) que continuó mostrando que necesita peleas ante la élite, en especial unificaciones ante Jéssica Nery Plata o Yesenia Gómez, para intentar aumentar su prestigio y su relieve internacional, buscar un posicionamiento libra por libra y aspirar a mayores bolsas.
Respecto a la velada de RCC Boxing, en el combate estelar el peso superpluma Mark Urvanov mostró evolución técnica y logró una convincente, por momentos incluso brillante, victoria unánime sobre el duro Dmitrii Khasiev, al que derribó dos veces. En cuanto al semifondo, el bien emparejado duelo del peso supergallo entre Evgenii Liashkov y Asror Vokhidov resultó emocionante y terminó con el segundo haciéndose con un triunfo por KOT en el último round.

En el respaldo principal, el peso superpluma Ruslan Kamilov padeció su primera derrota ante un Murad Aliev que, pese a su escasa experiencia profesional, boxea de manera realmente sólida. Antes de este choque el peso superpluma Elnur Samedov arrolló a Javokhirbek Karimov en el primer round, mientras que el kazajo Yerzhan Zalilov sufrió un tropiezo por decisión ante un muy agresivo Armen Ataev.

Finalizando este recorrido por los resultados destacados de la semana:
-El campeón de Inglaterra Liam Dillon 11(3KO)-0-1 no se midió a Joshua Wahab 22(15KO)-0, sino al sustituto tardío Marcus Hodgson 3(0KO)-2(1)-2 al que batió en el primer round. No obstante, Dillon ya tiene confirmada una interesante defensa de su título para septiembre ante el invicto Levi Giles.
-El prospecto estadounidense del peso superpluma William Foster III 15(9KO)-0 sumó un meritorio triunfo con una decisión unánime (triple 77-75) ante Avery Sparrow 11(4KO)-4(1), aunque ya van dos victorias seguidas por la mínima, lo que sugiere que quizás su evolución a penas avanza al mismo ritmo que aumenta su nivel de oposición.
-El número 1 WBC del peso mosca, el mexicano Ángel Ayala 15(7KO)-0, tuvo suficiente con un asalto para derrotar a un boxeador sin derrotas antes del límite como su compatriota Miguel Ángel “Joyita” Herrera 22(8KO)-5(1)-5. Así quedó nuevamente de manifiesto que cuando le llegue a Ayala la pelea mundialista ante Julio César Martínez, el campeón verdaderamente se expondrá a un serio peligro.
-El peso wélter canadiense Josh Wagner 12(6KO)-0 venció por abandono en el primer round a un normalmente competente Fernando “Picapiedra” Silva 19(8KO)-16(5)-3, por lo que al invicto se le ha programado un teórico paso adelante en septiembre ante Jorge “Soldado” Pérez 13(5KO)-2(1).

After years of waiting, the duel between the great Thai minimumweights Thammanoon Niyomtrong and Chayaphon Moonsri finally took place, entertaining clash in which the former won by unanimous decision, retained his WBA belt and strengthened his position as number 1 in the division. In the rematch between Arblin Kaba and Daniele Zagatti, the result of the previous duel was repeated. That is, Kaba prevailed by unanimous decision, so he returned to winning ways after losing his Italian super lightweight title to Charlemagne Metonyekpon. As for Jerome Pampellone 13(7KO)-0, he took another step forward by winning by TKO in the sixth round a cruiserweight match against Joshua “Chucky” Francis 12(9KO)-2(1)-1. However, Pampellone now has the same problem as so many other New Zealand fighters: there are hardly any potential rivals on his country and the biggest names (such as David Light or David Nyika) pose a great danger or have other objectives.
On the other hand, middleweight Steve Rolls 22(12KO)-2(1) left behind his controversial loss to Edgar Berlanga by defeating the undefeated Shady Gamhour 13(9KO)-1 by unanimous decision of the judges (double 97-93 and a 96-94). Rolls is a competent boxer and he has relevant names on his record, so it’s very possible that he’ll get an offer to test a prospect or a top 15 fighter in the final months of the year.

Super featherweight George Acosta showed his ability to react to difficulties, as he was hurt in his fight against Isaac Avelar but managed to recover, knock down his opponent and earn a well-deserved unanimous decision victory. Video and article of the fight following the link.
Regarding the Dominican Republic evening, the stream of the card was fragmented and there were even problems with the ring. In any case, former world title challengers Thomas Dulorme and Lenin Castillo scored third-round victories over, respectively, Abraham Peralta and Wilson Santana in stay-busy bouts before more significant fights. Moving on to Friday’s Mexican bills, flyweight Sergio Mendoza 17(16KO)-0 once again demonstrated his capacity to achieve knockouts by beating the tough Francisco Gomez 14(11KO)-9(3) in the fifth round. Thus, having consistently had good performances, having a lot of punch and being just 22 years old, it is clear that Mendoza is ready to step up in terms of level of opposition and begin to face rivals with more ambition and qualities than his last rivals.
Something similar can be said of the super bantamweight Jesús “Koreano” Ramírez 20(14KO)-1(1)-3, who beat Anthony Jiménez 17(5KO)-4(3)-1 in the fourth round and should start fighting in ten-round bouts.
In the other Mexican card, the American middleweight Mark Beuke 9(5KO)-3 finally did not fight the original rival José “Cobra” Gaona 14(9KO)-7(5), but the substitute Selim “La Maravilla” Martínez 6(2KO)-3(2). Beuke won in the second round and, therefore, could not obtain the experience he needs.

Former world challenger Joet González was not far from winning against former world champion Isaac Dogboe, but rounds in which he had very little activity, and the Ghanaian’s determined answer at close range, allowed the visitor to achieve victory. The Venezuelan challenger Yairineth Altuve 13(11KO)-4 reached the last bell and cut the streak of technical knockout wins of the Argentinian, WBO-IBF world light flyweight champion, Evelin “La Princesita” Bermúdez 17(6KO)-0-1. In any case, Bermúdez clearly won through a unanimous decision (double 99-91 and a 98-92) that proved again that she needs fights against the elite, especially unifications against Jéssica Nery Plata or Yesenia Gómez, to try to increase her prestige, seek a pound-for-pound position and aspire to bigger purses.

-English champion Liam Dillon 11(3KO)-0-1 did not face Joshua Wahab 22(15KO)-0, but the late substitute Marcus Hodgson 3(0KO)-2(1)-2, whom he beat in the first round. However, Dillon already has scheduled an interesting defense of his title in September against the undefeated Levi Giles.
-The American super featherweight prospect William Foster III 15(9KO)-0 added a meritorious win to his record with a unanimous decision (triple 77-75) over Avery Sparrow 11(4KO)-4(1), although he has obtained two narrow wins in a row, which suggests that perhaps his boxing evolution barely progresses at the same rate as the level of his opposition increases.
-The WBC number 1 flyweight, the Mexican Ángel Ayala 15(7KO)-0, had enough with one round to defeat a boxer without stoppage losses like his compatriot Miguel Ángel “Joyita” Herrera 22(8KO)-5 (1)-5. This result made clear once again that when Ayala reaches the world title fight against Julio César Martínez, the champion will truly face a very dangerous challenge.
-Canadian welterweight Josh Wagner 12(6KO)-0 defeated a usually competent journeyman like Fernando “Picapiedra” Silva 19(8KO)-16(5)-3 in the first round, so the undefeated now has scheduled a theoretical step forward in September against Jorge “Soldado” Pérez 13(5KO)-2(1).
