Los mejores combates del fin de semana (19-20/8/2022)

Sin combates el jueves y poco que destacar el viernes, en las próximas jornadas la actividad boxística no estará equilibradamente distribuida precisamente. Con todo, un sábado con tres grandes eventos y múltiples combates con mucho interés lo compensarán, haciendo de esta semana la más relevante del mes.
Viernes 19 de agosto
Antes de abordar el sábado se puede mencionar que el servicio de suscripción de ProBox Tv emitirá una velada organizada por Miguel Cotto Promotions desde el Coliseo Roberto Clemente de San Juan, Puerto Rico. El enfrentamiento estelar pondrá frente a frente al peso supergallo puertorriqueño Juan Carlos “El Indio” Camacho 13(7KO)-1 y al estadounidense Fernando “Leoncito” Díaz 11(3KO)-1-1. Aunque Camacho contará con la ventaja de pelear como local y tuvo un considerable recorrido amateur, éste ha tenido varios resultados inesperadamente ajustados ante rivales más sencillos que Díaz, que entra a este combate muy motivado tras truncar los récords invictos de Jan Salvatierra y Lorenzo Smith.
En este mismo cartel, el veterano nicaragüense, exretador mundial del peso mínimo y minimosca, Carlos “Chocorroncito” Buitrago 35(20KO)-7(3)-1 peleará en el peso supergallo contra el local José “Chiquiro” Martínez 21(14KO)-1(1)-3, que no combate desde su controvertido empate en marzo de 2021 contra Israel “Jiga” González.
Otra cartelera mencionable (emitida por Match Tv y Boets Tv) tendrá lugar en el KSK “Luzales-Arena” de la ciudad rusa de Syktyvkar, ya que en ella participarán dos boxeadores de gran carrera amateur como el bronce olímpico Vladimir Nikitin 6(2KO)-1-1 y el oro mundial junior Evgeny Romanov 16(11KO)-0-1. Sin embargo, estos serán abrumadores favoritos para vencer a sus oponentes, que respectivamente serán el peso supergallo tanzano Ally Mwerangi 12(8KO)-3(2) y el veterano peso pesado namibio Vikapita Meroro 30(15KO)-12(6).
Por lo demás, el viernes tendrán lugar estos otros combates:
-En Los Mochis, México, el invicto peso ligero Jorge Cota 7(5KO)-0 disputará su mayor test hasta la fecha contra el fogueado Jesús Antonio “Chino” Rubio 13(7KO)-5(3)-2, que derrotó al estadounidense Sonny Fredrickson. Además, el pegador del peso supermedio Manuel Gallegos 19(16KO)-1 comparará su rendimiento con el de Diego Pacheco midiéndose a un rival de éste, Jesús “Mazo” Moroyoqui 7(4KO)-1(1)-1.
-En Tailandia, el prospecto supermosca Nattapong Jankaew 10(6KO)-0 intentará entrar en el ranking WBA capturando un título menor ante el enrachado filipino Adrian Lerasan 11(4KO)-4(1).
-En el Commerce Casino de Commerce, Estados Unidos, emitido por Fite, el peso wélter bielorruso-estadounidense Vlad Panin 14(7KO)-1 tratará de lograr su octavo triunfo seguido pugnando contra Reggie Harris Jr. 7(3KO)-1.
-En el Club Unión Carmena de Carmen de Areco, Argentina, televisado por TyC Sports, el exretador mundial Marcelo “El Terrible” Cóceres 30(16KO)-4(1)-1 buscará regresar a la senda del triunfo, tras dos polémicas derrotas, enfrentándose al veterano Javier “La Bestia” Maciel 34(23KO)-16(3).
-En La Paz, México, emitido por ESPN Knockout, el peso mosca Adrián “Gato” Curiel 19(3KO)-4 disputará su segundo combate del año peleando contra el voluntarioso, pero en muy mala racha, Mario “Mayonesas” Andrade 16(5KO)-15(3)-7.
Sábado 20 de agosto
Evidentemente, el mayor encuentro de la jornada será el campeonato mundial WBA, WBO e IBF del peso pesado que sostendrán, en combate de revancha, el monarca Oleksandr Usyk y el excampeón Anthony Joshua.

Este enfrentamiento estará respaldado por dos interesantes eliminatorias, siendo una de ellas IBF del peso pesado entre los invictos medallistas olímpicos Filip Hrgović y Zhilei Zhang y la otra WBC del peso semipesado entre el extitular Callum Smith y el bronce olímpico Mathieu Bauderlique.

Unas horas más tarde se producirá en Estados Unidos otro muy buen evento organizado por PBC. En él tendrán lugar una eliminatoria del peso superligero entre los excampeones Omar Figueroa y Sergey Lipinets, un mundial del peso superligero entre Alberto Puello y Batyr Akhmedov, un mundial del peso superpluma entre Roger Gutiérrez y Héctor Luis García y una pelea para el prospecto Brandun Lee ante Will Madera.

Por si todo esto fuese poco, además la velada del Figueroa-Lipinets coincidirá en el tiempo con un evento de Top Rank, en el cual el campeón mundial WBO del peso pluma Emanuel Navarrete expondrá su corona ante Eduardo Báez. En este cartel se desarrollarán también los bien emparejados choques Santillán-Luna, Delgado-Aguilar y Martínez-Guerrero.

Al margen de estas tres grandes veladas, el sábado se producirá un campeonato mundial femenino en el Parque La Pedrera de Villa Mercedes, Argentina, televisado por TyC Sports. En él la joven campeona IBF del peso supermosca Micaela “La Princesita” Luján 10(3KO)-1-1 encarará uno de los mayores combate de su carrera hasta la fecha ante la exmonarca mundial mexicana Irma “Torbellino” García 21(4KO)-4-1. No obstante, aunque García es dura y en los últimos nueve años sólo ha padecido derrotas ante titulares mundiales (“La Bonita” Bermúdez, Guadalupe Martínez y “Barbie” Juárez), la visitante es 18 años mayor que su rival y no ha logrado un triunfo del máximo calibre desde hace bastantes temporadas, así que Luján partirá como favorita.
En cuanto a choques femeninos también se puede mencionar que en The Melbourne Pavilion en Flemington, Australia, la excampeona mundial Susie Ramadan 28(12KO)-3 retornará al ring tras dos años y medio de inactividad combatiendo contra otra exmonarca mundial como la japonesa Tomoko Okuda 7(1KO)-3(1)-2. Aunque la australiana no está en su mejor momento, Okuda es una boxeadora que tiene muchas dificultades para marcar la diferencia y que casi siempre está en peleas muy igualadas, así que este podría ser un duelo disputado en el que la condición de local de Ramadan quizás resulte vital.
Finalmente, hay que destacar también que en el Omega Products International de Corona, Estados Unidos, Thompson Boxing ofrecerá una de sus veladas emitidas a través de YouTube. El enfrentamiento estelar pondrá frente a frente al invicto peso ligero estadounidense Rubén “Ace” Torres 18(15KO)-0 y al venezolano Cristian “Guarico” Báez 18(17KO)-1, cuya única derrota llegó ante el peligroso “Venado” López. Además, este choque estará acompañado por un duelo entre los peso wélter californianos Louie López 11(4KO)-1-1 y Elías Díaz 11(6KO)-0 y por un combate entre los jóvenes peso ligero Pedro Valencia 10(7KO)-0 y Adrián Corona 9(2KO)-0-1.

Without fights on Thursday and little to highlight on Friday, the boxing activity will not be precisely evenly distributed. However, a Saturday with three big events and multiple matches with a lot of interest will make up for it, and so this week will be the most relevant of the month.
Friday, August 19
Before talking about Saturday, it can be mentioned that the subscription plataform ProBox TV will broadcast an evening organized by Miguel Cotto Promotions from the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The main fight will feature the Puerto Rican super bantamweight Juan Carlos “El Indio” Camacho 13(7KO)-1 and the American Fernando “Leoncito” Díaz 11(3KO)-1-1. This matchup will be supported by two eliminators, one being in the heavyweight division between two undefeated Olympic medalists as Filip Hrgović and Zhilei Zhang and the other in the light heavyweight division between former titleholder Callum Smith and Olympic bronze medalist Mathieu Bauderlique. A few hours later a very interesting event organized by PBC will take place in the United States. It will feature a super lightweight eliminator between former champions Omar Figueroa and Sergey Lipinets, a super lightweight world championship between Alberto Puello and Batyr Akhmedov, a super featherweight world championship between Roger Gutiérrez and Héctor Luis García and a fight for prospect Brandun Lee against Will Madera. As if all this were not enough, the Figueroa-Lipinets evening will coincide in time with a Top Rank event, in which the WBO featherweight world champion Emanuel Navarrete will defend his crown against Eduardo Báez.
