El retorno a Albania del peso wélter local Florian Marku terminó con éste logrando una victoria por decisión unánime sobre Miguel Ángel Parra. Con todo, antes de alzarse con el triunfo Marku perdió varios rounds y fue derribado por primera vez en su carrera boxística.

En cuanto al prometedor peso ligero estadounidense Ernesto “Tito” Mercado 7(7KO)-0, éste superó el test a su pegada solventemente, ya que sólo necesitó dos rounds para batir al argentino Alfredo “Alfri” Blanco 22(11KO)-11(2). De ese modo, Mercado sigue avanzando a paso firme en su desarrollo como profesional y posiblemente encare una o dos peleas más pactadas a ocho asaltos en lo que queda de año.
Viernes 26 de agosto
El evento boxístico emitido por Ren TV, que finalmente quedó reducido a dos combates, sólo se prolongó durante dos rounds, ya que ambos choques principales se resolvieron en el primer asalto. En el estelar, el excampeón mundial del peso crucero Murat Gassiev terminó con enorme sencillez con el estadounidense Carlouse Welch, clasificado en el peso puente WBC.

En la otra pugna televisada, el prospecto del peso semipesado Artem Ageev tampoco lo tuvo difícil para forzar el lanzamiento de la toalla desde la esquina de su rival Diego Adrián Marocchi.

Quien sí se vio en una pugna complicada fue el peso supermedio ruso Aslambek “The Hulk” Idigov 22(7KO)-0, quien de hecho fue inicialmente anunciado como perdedor por decisión mayoritaria (95-95, 95-96 y 91-98) tras los diez asaltos que sostuvo ante el argentino Abraham “Turco” Buonarrigo 12(9KO)-2. No obstante, Idigov, que ha tenido varias victorias muy ajustadas o incluso controvertidas a lo largo de su carrera, finalmente evitó la derrota en un horrendo ejemplo de corrupción. Y es que a posteriori se alegó que había habido un “fallo al sumar las tarjetas”, así que, finalmente, Idigov logró la victoria en los despachos por decisión dividida (98-91 y doble 95-94).
En cualquier caso, mientras Buonarrigo tuvo una meritoria actuación peleando en el extranjero, Idigov volvió a dejar más claro que, pese a estar clasificado como 6º IBF y WBO, no está preparado para medirse al top de la división del peso supermedio.
También hubo controversia en el combate del peso superwélter entre Damián Sosa y Ronald Cruz, puesto que el primero, nuevamente, logró una cuestionable victoria por decisión unánime, siendo una de las cartulinas realmente horrenda. Vídeo y crónica del combate siguiendo el enlace:

Por otro lado, el viernes tuvieron lugar estos otros choques:
-El prometedor peso supergallo Yoshiki Takei 5(5KO)-0 mantuvo su 100% de knockouts y capturó el cinturón de ámbito continental OPBF batiendo al filipino Pete “Thunder” Apolinar 16(10KO)-3(3) por KOT en el quinto asalto, así que ahora abordará una escalada en las listas mundiales y pugnas para prepararse para un posible mundial en el futuro.
-La revancha entre los pesos supergallos Hytan Ramos 11(3KO)-6(1)-2 y Ernesto Salcedo 14(11KO)-2(1) terminó con el segundo desquitándose del anterior resultado a través de un KOT en el décimo round. Esta fue la primera derrota antes del límite de la carrera de Ramos, mientras que Salcedo regresó a la senda de la victoria tras dos tropiezos consecutivos.
-El campeón de Sudamérica del peso superligero Maximiliano “El Profe” Segura 14(11KO)-1(1) cayó a la lona en una ocasión, pero terminó derrotando en el noveno round a Axel “El Principito” Peralta 9(3KO)-4(2)-1. Así, Segura retuvo su título, pero generó dudas al sufrir tantas dificultades ante un rival ante el que era a priori muy claro favorito.

Aunque buscaban un retorno a la parte más alta de las clasificaciones del peso superligero, el decisivo combate para José Pedraza y Richard Commey terminó en un resultado de empate que no sirvió a ninguno de ambos para cumplir su objetivo.

En el semifondo del evento, el prometedor peso pesado Jared Anderson se impuso en el segundo asalto a Miljan Rovcanin, quien momentáneamente tuvo mayores éxitos que la mayoría de anteriores rivales del invicto.

Más abrumadora fue la victoria del plata olímpico, y también peso pesado, Richard Torrez, que necesitó menos de un minuto para acabar con Marco Antonio Canedo. De todos modos, lo más llamativo del combate fue que ESPN mantuviese sus cámaras apuntando al boxeador dañado e incluso hiciese un primer plano de su sufrimiento.

Antes de la cartelera principal, combatió otro olímpico peso pesado, el nigeriano Efe Ajagba, que regresó al ring cerca de un año después de su último combate batiendo en el segundo asalto a Jozsef Darmos.

Pasando a la velada polaca, el peso pluma Kamil “Szczurek” Laszczyk 30(11KO)-0 superó las expectativas venciendo por KOT en el segundo asalto al argentino Kevin “La Maquinita” Acevedo 21(6KO)-5(2)-3, algo sorprendente teniendo en cuenta sobre todo que, antes de esta victoria, el imbatido sólo había vencido cuatro veces antes del límite en los últimos diez años. En cualquier caso, la carrera de Laszczyk no ha ido a ninguna parte en 30 combates, y empieza a acabársele el tiempo, así que o afronta ya una pugna de consecuencias cruciales o quizás nunca lo haga.
Acompañando a esta pelea, tanto el peso wélter Michal Lesniak 16(4KO)-1-1 como el peso semipesado Pawel August 13(6KO)-0 lograron victorias en sus rodajes ante Josef Zahradnik 14(8KO)-7 y Aro Schwartz 19(13KO)-6(1)-1, respectivamente. Lesniak venció a Zahradnik por decisión unánime (doble 78-73 y un 76-75) y August le asestó la primera derrota antes del límite de su carrera a Schwartz con un KOT en el tercer round.
Respecto a la velada panameña protagonizada por peleas del peso superpluma, hubo un pleno de claras victorias de los favoritos. El pegador Pablo Vicente 20(16KO)-1 no logró vencer por knockout a Miguel Arevalo Mejía 19(5KO)-3(1)-1, si bien le derrotó por amplísima decisión unánime (triple 100-90) y quizás escale algunos puestos desde su posición de 9º WBA por un título menor en juego; el argentino Neri Ariel “El Maldito” Cruz 16(9KO)-0 cumplió con lo esperado y se impuso a Jorge “El Búfalo” Sánchez 19(5KO)-6(4) por KOT en el octavo asalto; y Jaime Arboleda 19(14KO)-2(2) logró su tercer triunfo consecutivo venciendo de forma unánime (80-71, 79-72 y 78-73) a Jhonatan Arenas 19(13KO)-2.
De todos modos, lo más interesante y potencialmente beneficioso para Vicente, Cruz y Arboleda habría sido que hubiesen peleado entre ellos o contra oponentes de nivel similar.
Terminando el artículo, el peso supergallo tailandés Thattana Luangphon 18(13KO)-0-1 derrotó al filipino Kevin “The Bull” Aseniero 10(5KO)-4(1)-1 por decisión unánime de los jueces (98-92, 97-93 y 96-94). Hasta ahora, Luangphon ha ganado 9 combates con títulos menores WBC en juego, pero ni siquiera ha aparecido entre los 40 primeros puestos del ranking de este organismo, en el que hay peores boxeadores que él clasificados. Esto es un ejemplo de que, si no se paga por los títulos secundarios adecuados, los promotores desperdician su dinero y sólo ayudan a engordar las arcas de las organizaciones.

The return to Albania of the local welterweight Florian Marku ended successfully for him , since he socred a unanimous decision win over Miguel Angel Parra. However, before winning, Marku lost several rounds and was knocked down for the first time in his boxing career. Read more following the link.
As for the promising American lightweight Ernesto “Tito” Mercado 7(7KO)-0, he passed the test to his punch beating in just two rounds the Argentinian Alfredo “Alfri” Blanco 22(11KO)-11(2). In this way, Mercado continues to advance steadily in his development as a professional and he will probably face one or two more eight-round fights in the remainder of the year.

The boxing event broadcast by Ren TV (which finally only aired two of the fights) lasted just two rounds, as both main clashes ended in the first round. In the main event, former cruiserweight world champion Murat Gassiev beat with great ease American Carlouse Welch, who is ranked in the WBC bridgerweight division. Read more following the link.
In the other televised bout, light heavyweight prospect Artem Ageev didn’t have a hard time either forcing the towel throw from the corner of his rival Diego Adrián Marocchi. Read more following the link.
A boxer that did find himself in a difficult fight was the Russian super middleweight Aslambek “The Hulk” Idigov 22(7KO)-0, who initially was announced as the loser by majority decision (95-95, 95-96 and 91-98) in a ten round duel against the Argentinian Abraham “Turco” Buonarrigo 12(9KO)-2. However, Idigov, who has had several close or even controversial wins throughout his career, ultimately avoided defeat in a horrendous example of corruption. After the fight it was alleged that there had been a «mistake adding up the scorecards», so in the end Idigov achieved a victory in the offices by split decision (98-91 and double 95-94).
In any case, while Buonarrigo had a meritorious performance fighting abroad, Idigov once again showed that, despite being ranked 6th IBF and WBO, he is not ready at all to face the top of the super middleweight division.
There was also controversy in the super welterweight fight between Damián Sosa and Ronald Cruz, since the former, once again, achieved a questionable victory by unanimous decision, with one of the scorecards being horrendous. Video and article of the fight following the link.
These other clashes also took place on Friday:
-Promising super bantamweight Yoshiki Takei 5(5KO)-0 maintained his 100% knockout ratio and captured the OPBF belt beating Filipino Pete “Thunder” Apolinar 16(10KO)-3(3) through a fifth round TKO, so now he will look to climb up the world rankings and start preparing for a possible world title fight in the future.
-The rematch between super bantamweights Hytan Ramos 11(3KO)-6(1)-2 and Ernesto Salcedo 14(11KO)-2(1) ended with the latter getting even with the previous result scoring a TKO in the tenth round. This was the first stoppage loss of Ramos’ career, while Salcedo returned to winning ways after two consecutive setbacks.
-South American super lightweight champion Maximiliano “El Profe” Segura 14(11KO)-1(1) was dropped once, but ended up defeating Axel “El Principito” Peralta 9(3KO)-4(2)-1 in the ninth round. Thus, Segura retained his title, but raised doubts by suffering so many difficulties against a rival against whom he was, on paper, very clear favorite.

Although they sought a return to the top of the super lightweight rankings, the decisive bout for José Pedraza and Richard Commey ended in a draw that did not serve them to fulfill their objective. Read more following the link.
In the co-feature of the event, promising heavyweight Jared Anderson beat in the second round Miljan Rovcanin, who momentarily had better successes than most of the undefeated’s previous rivals. Read more following the link.
More overwhelming was the win of the Olympic silver medalist, and also heavyweight, Richard Torrez, who needed less than a minute to knock out Marco Antonio Canedo. After the fight, ESPN kept its cameras focused on the hurt boxer and they even did a close-up of his suffering. Read more following the link.
Before the main card started, another heavyweight, the Nigerian Olympian Efe Ajagba, returned to the ring (ten months after his last bout) with a second-round victory over Jozsef Darmos. Read more following the link.
Moving on to the Polish evening, featherweight Kamil “Szczurek” Laszczyk 30(11KO)-0 exceeded expectations by defeating Argentinian Kevin “La Maquinita” Acevedo 21(6KO)-5(2)-3 by TKO in the second round. That was surprising considering that, before this victory, the unbeaten had only won by stoppage four times in the last ten years. In any case, Laszczyk’s career hasn’t gone anywhere in 30 fights, and he’s running out of time, so if he does not face a clash with crucial consequences now, he may never do it.
Supporting the fight Laszczyk-Acevedo, the welterweight Michal Lesniak 16(4KO)-1-1 and the light heavyweight Pawel August 13(6KO)-0 achieved victories in their stay-busy bouts against Josef Zahradnik 14(8KO)-7 and Aro Schwartz 19( 13KO)-6(1)-1, respectively. Lesniak beat Zahradnik by unanimous decision (double 78-73 and one 76-75) and August dealt the first stoppage defeat to Schwartz with a third-round TKO.
Regarding the Panamanian card featuring super featherweight fights, the favorites obtained clear victories. The puncher Pablo Vicente 20(16KO)-1 was unable to beat Miguel Arevalo Mejía 19(5KO)-3(1)-1 by knockout, although he defeated him with a very wide unanimous decision (triple 100-90) and may climb some steps from his 9th WBA position through a minor title at stake; the Argentinian Neri Ariel “El Maldito” Cruz 16(9KO)-0 did as expected and beat Jorge “El Búfalo” Sánchez 19(5KO)-6(4) by TKO in the eighth round; and Jaime Arboleda 19(14KO)-2(2) achieved his third consecutive win defeating Jhonatan Arenas 19(13KO)-2 by unanimous decision (80-71, 79-72 and 78-73).
In any case, the most interesting and potentially beneficial thing for Vicente, Cruz and Arboleda would have been fights against each other or against opponents of a similar level.
Finishing the article, Thai super bantamweight Thattana Luangphon 18(13KO)-0-1 defeated Filipino Kevin “The Bull” Aseniero 10(5KO)-4(1)-1 by unanimous decision of the judges (98-92, 97 -93 and 96-94). In his career Luangphon has won 9 fights with minor WBC titles at stake, but he has not even appeared yet in the top 40 of the WBC ranking, in which there are worse boxers than him ranked. This shows that, without selecting the proper secondary belts, promoters waste their money and only help fatten the coffers of the organizations.
