El pegador “Rocky” Hernández logró su 30ª victoria antes del límite contra el invicto Jorge Mata

Se esperaba que el peso superpluma mexicano Eduardo “Rocky” Hernández 33(30KO)-1(1) siguiese escalando hacia el top 3 WBC con un triunfo antes del límite sobre un Jorge Mata 14(10KO)-1(1)-2 sin poner a prueba, y efectivamente el favorito cumplió con los pronósticos. Hernández, de 24 años, se hizo con un KOT en el quinto asalto que fue su 30º triunfo antes del límite.
Era obvio que Hernández quería anotarse otro rápido knockout, puesto que salió al ring presionando fuerte y lanzando peligrosísismos golpes de poder en gancho zurdo, arriba y abajo, uppercuts de ambas manos y derechas rectas y curvas. Mata sintió la pegada de su contrincante ya en el primer asalto, en el que fue sacudido varias veces, pero inicialmente su encaje resistió los golpes suficientemente bien como para poder caminar el ring, mantener el orden y sacar algunas buenas contras en gancho de mano adelantada.
Es más, con el paso de los asaltos Hernández, viendo que no iba a poder arrollar en pocos minutos, fue reduciendo un tanto la continuidad de sus acciones y fue dejando intervalos en los que cedió la iniciativa y se pensó sus ofensivas. Igualmente, aunque entonces “Rocky” no conectó tantos golpes de poder y Mata se mostró bravo tanto en sus ataques como en los intercambios, finalmente en el cuarto round el no favorito empezó a verse ya desbordado por la acumulación de fuertes puños recibidos.
Estas dificultades no pasaron desapercibidas para Hernández, que en el quinto asalto intensificó sus ofensivas y derribó a su oponente con una serie de golpes terminada en hook de izquierda. En la reanudación el pegador hostigó a Mata hasta que, tras un gancho zurdo, un uppercut de esta misma mano y una derecha recta, el árbitro tuvo que parar el combate.
Su tendencia a dejarse dar golpes con tal de conectar los suyos o, dicho de otro modo, su excesiva confianza en poder decantar el choque a base de pegada le expone a puños peligrosos que, ante Roger Gutiérrez, ya le costaron muy caros. Con todo, Hernández es un boxeador temible por su agresividad, fortaleza y precisión, además de por su descomunal potencia de golpeo, así que, habiendo superado contundentemente sus pugnas de recuperación tras su única derrota y estando situado 5º WBC, parece que ha llegado el momento de buscarle una eliminatoria o al menos un test decisivo ante un top 15.

Mexican super featherweight Eduardo “Rocky” Hernández 33(30KO)-1(1) was expected to continue climbing towards the WBC top 3 with a knockout win over an untested Jorge Mata 14(10KO)-1(1)-2, and indeed the favorite fulfilled the projections. The 24 years old Hernandez ended the bout with a fifth-round TKO that was the 30th stoppage victory of his career.
It was obvious that Hernandez wanted to score another quick knockout, as he started the fight pressing hard and throwing dangerous power shots in left hook up and down, uppercuts from both hands, straight punches, etc. Mata felt the punch of his opponent already in the first round, in which he was shaken several times, but initially his chin resisted well enough for him to be able to walk the ring, maintain order and land some good counters with lead hooks.
Actually, as rounds went by, Hernández, seeing that he was not going to be able to overwhelm his rival in a few minutes, reduced the continuity of his actions a bit and had moments in which he renounced to the initiative and selected more his offensives. Anyway, although “Rocky” then did not connect as many power punches and although his opponent was brave both in his attacks and in the exchanges, finally in the fourth round Mata began to be worn out by the accumulation of hard hands received.
That difficulties did not go unnoticed by Hernández, who in the fifth round intensified his attacks and dropped his compatriot with a combination of punches ending in a left hook. At the restart, the puncher continued his offensive over Mata until, after a left hook, an uppercut from the same hand and a straight right, the referee had to stop the fight.
His tendency to allow his opponents to hit him in order to connect his own shots or, in other words, his excessive confidence in being able to win the clash relying on his power, exposes Hernández to dangerous punches that against Roger Gutiérrez already costed him dearly. All in all, Hernández is a fearsome boxer due to his aggressiveness, strength and precision, in addition to his enormous striking power, so having won his recovery fights after his only defeat with great forcefulness and being ranked 5th WBC, it looks that the time has come for him to fight in an eliminator or, at least, in a decisive test against a top 15.
