Enfrentándose a un invicto boxeador con aspiraciones en el combate estelar de una velada, Richard Brewart Jr. 12(4KO)-1(1) y Joeshon “Showtime” James 7(4KO)-0 tenían el mayor test de sus carreras hasta la fecha y una buena oportunidad para intentar ganarse más combates interesantes. Sin duda, James fue consciente de ello y lo aprovechó al máximo, logrando la victoria por knockout en el séptimo round.
El primer asalto esbozó que la pelea se iba a decidir entre el larguísimo alcance y la velocidad de James y el timing del fuerte Brewart Jr., puesto que el primero pudo usar sus rectos desde la distancia media y media-larga mientras su oponente trataba de encontrar ventanas para sus golpes de poder. Con todo, en el choque de cualidades de ambos rápidamente James terminó poniéndose por delante.
Aunque en ocasiones no aprovechaba adecuadamente su envergadura y se acercaba un poco demasiado, James contaba con habilidad, precisión y contundencia, por lo que pudo crear un cierto control táctico antes de lograr estremecer a Brewart en el segundo y en el cuarto asalto, en el que fue hostigado con dureza. Los problemas para Brewart empezaron a ser claramente preocupantes y no sorprendió que en el quinto round una derecha recta terminase derribándolo.
Con todo, entonces Brewart empezó a reaccionar y a lanzar buenos ganchos abajo e impuso un tanto su fuerza con su gestión de los golpes de poder en el sexto round, pero era ya demasiado tarde y con esto sólo logró desgastarse más. Cuando James se decidió a pasar al ataque en el séptimo episodio llevó contra las cuerdas a su rival y descargó un par de fuertes cruzados diestros que dañaron a Brewart, que terminó cayendo tras dos directos bloqueados por el cansancio acumulado. Entonces su esquina subió al ring para detener la pelea.
Aunque tiene que ajustar un tanto su control de los espacios y sacar aún más provecho a sus dimensiones, James es un imbatido de 23 años que con sólo seis combates de experiencia, y encarando su mayor reto en una velada organizada por el promotor de su rival, cumplió con creces anotándose una victoria antes del límite. Por ello, parece un nombre a seguir en el circuito estadounidense del peso medio y si logra mantener o mejorar su rendimiento en no mucho tiempo le veremos aparecer en una cartelera de una gran promotora.

Facing an undefeated boxer with aspirations in the main event of an evening, Richard Brewart Jr. 12(4KO)-1(1) and Joeshon “Showtime” James 7(4KO)-0 had the biggest test of their careers to date and a good opportunity to try to get access to more interesting fights. James was certainly aware of this and made the most of it, earning a knockout victory in the seventh round.
The first round outlined that the fight was going to be decided between the very long range and speed of James and the timing of the strong Brewart Jr., since the former was able to use his straight punches from the middle and mid-long distance while his opponent was trying to find windows for his power shots. However, in the clash of qualities from both fighters, James quickly ended up taking the lead.
Although he sometimes misused his reach and got a little too close, James has skill, precision and certain power, and he was able to create a bit of a tactical control before rocking Brewart in the second and fourth rounds, in which the latter was attacked dangerously. Brewart’s problems began to be clearly worrying, and it was not surprising when in the fifth round a straight right hand ended up dropping him.
However, then Brewart reacted and threw good hooks down and somewhat imposed his strength with his use of power shots in the sixth round, but it was too late and he only wore himself down further. When James went on the attack in the seventh round he took his opponent against the ropes and unleashed a couple of hard right hoks that hurt Brewart, who ended up falling by the accumulated punishment after two blocked straight shots. Then his corner stepped up to the ring to stop the fight.
Although he has to adjust his control of distance a bit and take even more advantage of his size, James is a 23-year-old undefeated that, with only six fights of experience, delivered scoring a stoppage victory in his biggest challenge to date in an event organized by his opponent’s promoter. Therefore, he seems like a name worth to pay attention to in the American middleweight scene and, if he mantains or improves his performance, in not much time we will see him appear on a card of a major promoter.
