Josh Warrington sobre “Venado” López: “Va a ser una pelea difícil, es fiero y errático”

En un fin de semana con un par de eventos destacados en Reino Unido, la confirmación oficial del cartel Josh Warrington vs. Luis Alberto López para el día 10 de diciembre en Leeds ha pasado bastante desapercibida. Aun así, este es un campeonato mundial IBF del peso pluma muy interesante en el que Warrington asume un riesgo importante ante un pegador heterodoxo y muy fuerte.
Hablando sobre este próximo compromiso, primeramente Warrington señaló que podría no volver a pelear en su ciudad:
“Estamos de vuelta en el Leeds Arena, de vuelta por la 12ª y potencialmente última vez. Estoy muy emocionado de regresar a Leeds. Empecé el año muy bien con una sensacional victoria por detención en el séptimo round sobre Kiko Martínez para recuperar mi título IBF y ahora acabaré el año defendiendo mi cinturón contra mi aspirante obligatorio, que es un duro mexicano que ha esperado mucho tiempo para enfrentarse a mí”.
Respecto a su oponente, Warrington dijo:
“Va a ser una pelea difícil, va hacia adelante, es fiero y errático. He tenido historia con los peleadores mexicanos, pero espero ofrecer una gran actuación frente al público de casa”.
Finalmente, Warrington explicó que, pese a que desea unificar cruzando el océano Atlántico, su intención es primero concluir la pelea ante López de manera contundente:
“He estado hablando durante mucho tiempo sobre ir a los Estados Unidos y pelear en un combate de unificación. Ese es el sueño, pero debido a retrasos con mis lesiones en mi mandíbula y mi mano tengo que pelear contra mi aspirante obligatorio ahora. Estoy totalmente centrado en lograr la meta, cerrar el show temprano y terminar 2022 con un bombazo”.
En cuanto a “Venado” López, el mexicano hizo alusión al precedente de la dura derrota de Warrington ante Lara y mostró su confianza en vencer el choque:
“Recuerdo cuando, hace no mucho, un peleador mexicano noqueó a Josh en su país. El 10 de diciembre, en su ciudad, voy a callar a sus fans. El cinturón IBF del peso pluma volverá a México. Dedico este combate a los mexicanos y a todo el mundo de mi ciudad, Mexicali: esta es por vosotros. Y Josh, disfruta del cinturón mientras todavía lo tienes”.

In a weekend with a couple of notable events in the UK, the official confirmation of the fight Josh Warrington vs. Luis Alberto López for December 10 in Leeds has gone quite unnoticed. Still, this is a very interesting IBF featherweight championship in which Warrington takes a major risk against a very strong, unorthodox puncher.
Speaking about this next bout, Warrington pointed out that he might not fight in his city again:
“So we are back at the Leeds Arena, back for the 12th and potentially final time. I’m very excited to be back in Leeds. I started the year very well with a sensational 7th round stoppage against Kiko Martinez to recapture my IBF belt and now finishing the end of the year defending my belt to my mandatory who’s a tough Mexican and has waited a long time to fight me”.
Regarding his opponent, Warrington said:
“It’s going to be a hard fight, he comes forward, he’s wild and erratic, I’ve got history with Mexican fighters, but I’m hoping to put on a great performance in front of my home crowd”.
Finally, Warrington explained that, although he wants to unify crossing the Atlantic Ocean, his intention is to first conclude the fight against López forcefully:
“I’ve been saying it for so long about going over to the States and fighting in a unification fight. That’s the dream but due to delays with injuries to my jaw and hand I have to fight my mandatory now. I’m fully focused on doing a job, getting the show closed early and finishing 2022 with a bang.”
As for “Venado” López, the Mexican alluded to the precedent of Warrington’s tough defeat against Lara and showed his confidence in winning the match:
“I remember, not too long ago, when a Mexican fighter knocked Josh out in his country. On December 10, in his hometown, I am going to silence his fans. The IBF Featherweight title will return to Mexico. I dedicate this fight to the Mexican people and everyone from my hometown of Mexicali. This one’s for you, and Josh, enjoy that belt while you still have it.”
