Según dice la teoría boxística e incontables precedentes, ascender de división tras cada derrota crucial no augura grandes logros internacionales. Sin embargo, el español Jon Fernández 22(19KO)-2(1), que en su día varios críticos estadounidenses calificaron como uno de los mejores prospectos libra por libra, ascendió del peso superpluma tras su derrota ante el próximo retador mundial WBC O’Shaquie Foster y del peso ligero tras su tropiezo ante Michel Rivera.
Como un primer test mencionable en su andadura en el peso superligero, Fernández se midió a José Osado 10(5KO)-4(1) en un campeonato por el vacante cinturón de España. Esta pelea terminó con resultado de victoria para “Jonfer”, que se impuso por KOT en el tercer episodio.
En los primeros compases los dos púgiles ocuparon el centro del ring y realizaron pruebas decididas, siendo Fernández quien estuvo más afilado y preciso con buenas derechas rectas al ataque y a la contra y peligrosos hooks zurdos al cuerpo. Por su parte, Osado buscó apoyarse en su explosividad y potencia para impactar manos adelantadas inesperadas en corta, alguna de las cuales llegó nítida contra Fernández.
Sin embargo, en líneas generales “Jonfer” estaba más acertado en sus acciones defensivas y sabía darle la necesaria continuidad a sus ofensivas, por lo que conseguía lograr mejores resultados. Esto quedó aún más claro cuando Fernández derribó duramente a Osado con un potente gancho zurdo arriba en un intercambio en el tercer round, knockdown del que el púgil derribado se levantó rápido pero sin poder evitar por mucho tiempo la conclusión. Después de la reanudación, Fernández sólo tuvo que desplegar nuevos ataques para, tras uppercuts y hooks, volver a derribar a su oponente y forzar el final.
Ahora en teoría Jon Fernández está emplazado a enfrentarse a Samuel Molina el 4 de diciembre, otro boxeador que hasta no hace mucho era valorado como un insigne prospecto español pero que ha visto frenado su avance internacional con cruciales tropiezos en el extranjero. Por lo tanto, en el interesante choque entre Fernández y Molina uno de ellos sufrirá un nuevo desmoralizante paso atrás y el otro se verá emplazado a retos más allá de sus fronteras, aunque en una división tan complicada como el peso superligero tendrá difícil lograr los éxitos que no pudo conseguir en una división más ligera.
Molina volvió a vencer a Simion
Precisamente, Samuel Molina 21(11KO)-2(1) participó en el respaldo del evento enfrentándose al veterano rumano Viorel Simion 22(9KO)-9(6) en una pelea del peso superligero. Molina, que el año pasado fue suspendido por un positivo en control antidopaje, ya había vencido por decisión unánime a Simion hace menos de un año y medio, por lo que no resultó nada sorprendente que volviese a vencer (esta vez por abandono antes del cuarto round) a un boxeador que encadena cuatro derrotas antes del límite consecutivas.
La diferencia en velocidad, explosividad, frescura y reflejos de ambos boxeadores resultó muy grande, así que Molina impuso sus combinaciones de directos y curvos y no tardó en dañar al veterano Simion con un duro gancho zurdo abajo en un cruce. El rumano intentó realizar alguna carga a la desesperada con alguna imprecisa andanada de curvos, pero Molina no se vio descentrado por ellas e inmediatamente volvió a tomar la iniciativa y a descargar sus certeras manos enlazadas. Así, como ha hecho en dos años contra Denys Berinchyk, Gary Cully, Zelfa Barrett y Harlem Eubank, Simion decidió abandonar tras unos cuantos minutos de recibir golpes.

According to boxing theory and countless precedents, moving up a division after every crucial loss is not a good way to achieve international success. However, Spaniard Jon Fernandez 22(19KO)-2(1), who was once rated as one of the best pound-for-pound prospects by some American experts, moved up from super featherweight after his loss to future WBC world title challenger O’Shaquie Foster and from lightweight after his setback against Michel Rivera.
As a first mentionable test in his run at super lightweight, Fernández faced José Osado 10(5KO)-4(1) in a championship for the vacant Spanish belt. This fight ended with a victory by «Jonfer» with a TKO in the third round.
In the first round, the two fighters took the center of the ring and made determined efforts, but Fernández was sharper and more precise with good straight right hands attacking and countering and with dangerous left hooks to the body. For his part, Osado tried to rely on his explosiveness to connect unexpected lead hands at short range, some of which landed clear against Fernández.
However, in general, «Jonfer» was more successful in his defensive actions and knew how to give the necessary continuity to his offensives, so he achieved better results. Now, Jon Fernández is scheduled to fight in December 4 against Samuel Molina, another fighter who not long ago was viewed as a distinguished prospect in Spanish boxing but who has seen his international advance stopped by crucial setbacks abroad. Therefore, in the interesting clash between Fernández and Molina, one of them will suffer another demoralizing step backwards and the other will be boosted to new challenges beyond his borders, although in a division as hard as super lightweight it will be difficult for him to achieve the successes that he could not get in a lighter weight class.
Molina beat Simion again
Precisely, Samuel Molina 21(11KO)-2(1) participated in the support of the event facing Romanian veteran Viorel Simion 22(9KO)-9(6) in a super lightweight bout.
