Los mejores combates del fin de semana (6-9/10/2022)

La semana pasada no tuvo un gran nivel medio de combates, y esta tampoco lo tendrá, si bien dos carteleras de promotoras importantes marcarán la diferencia… eso en el caso de que una de ellas termine produciéndose.
Jueves 6 de octubre
Como tantos otros jueves, en este día se producirá una velada emitida por UFC Fight Pass, en esta ocasión desde Houston, Estados Unidos. El combate principal será un choque del peso superwélter en el que el invicto prospecto griego Andreas Katzourakis 7(5KO)-0 afrontará un buen primer test a ocho asaltos ante un oponente con un récord engañosísimo como el estadounidense Cameron Krael 19(6KO)-22(2)-3, púgil con cualidades técnicas, que ha ofrecido infinidad de actuaciones meritorias y combates ajustados ante rivales insignes y que ha sufrido también múltiples derrotas controvertidas.
Por otro lado, en el Mayflower Hotel de Washington, Estados Unidos, el peso superwélter Greg “The Villain” Vendetti 23(12KO)-4(1)-1, más conocido por sus derrotas ante Erislandy Lara y Michel Soro, pondrá fin a un año de inactividad peleando contra una capaz piedra de toque como Courtney Pennington 15(7KO)-5(1)-3, mientras que el invicto peso pesado Mike Balogun 19(15KO)-0 disputará un sencillo rodaje a la espera de una pelea significativa enfrentándose al peso crucero Marcus Oliveira 28(22KO)-8(1)-1.
Viernes 7 de octubre
El viernes habrán también muy pocos duelos. El evento más destacable es el que se desarrollará en el Whitesands Events Center de Plant City, Estados Unidos, organizado por Pro Box Promotions, siendo el combate estelar un encuentro del peso pluma en el que el chino Can Xu 18(3KO)-3(1) pondrá fin a 15 meses de inactividad (desde su derrota ante Leigh Wood). Su oponente será el mexicano Brandon León Benítez 18(7KO)-2(2) que, habiendo perdido por knockout sus dos mayores combates ante Saúl Sánchez e Irvin Turrubiartes, debería tener muy complicado dar la sorpresa.
En el respaldo, ProBox seguirá intentando inflar al peso superligero Cesar “Rainman” Francis 11(6KO)-0 situándole delante al mexicano Francisco “Roca” Armenta 12(4KO)-1(1), que viene de ser fácilmente noqueado por Rubén “Ace” Torres, y el olímpico Darrelle Valsaint 5(4KO)-0 se anotará su sexta victoria profesional peleando en el peso medio contra un Paul Méndez 21(11KO)-3(1)-2, que ha boxeado dos veces en los últimos seis años y lleva inactivo desde mayo de 2019.
Por otro lado, desde Hermosillo, México, ESPN Knockout televisará una pelea del peso supermosca entre dos boxeadores muy castigados y que hace tiempo deberían haberse retirado para proteger su salud. Estos son el mexicano Hernán “Tyson” Márquez 46(33KO)-10(7)-2 y Luis “Nica” Concepción 40(29KO)-9(4), quienes se han enfrentado en tres ocasiones con resultados de dos victorias por KO de Márquez y una por decisión de Concepción. Dado que el mexicano parece haber perdido aún más nivel que su rival no resultaría sorprendente que Concepción pudiese dejar este intrascendente marcador en 2-2.
Sábado 8 de octubre
En principio, el combate que más miradas iba a atraer era el choque a peso pactado entre Chris Eubank Jr. y Conor Benn, pero el encuentro y el evento han terminado siendo cancelados a pesar de un inmoral intento de Eddie Hearn de mantenerlo en pie.
Premier Boxing Champions sí ofrecerá su velada del sábado. En ella el gigantesco peso superwélter Sebastián Fundora se mantendrá a la espera de una pelea contra Jermell Charlo midiéndose a Carlos Ocampo, mientras que el peso medio Carlos Adames aguardará un combate contra Jermall Charlo peleando contra Juan Macías Montiel. Además, Fernando Martínez y Jerwin Ancajas se verán las caras en una revancha por el cinturón mundial IBF supermosca. Previa del evento siguiendo el enlace.
Dejando de lado dichos carteles, en el Newcastle Entertainment Centre de Newcastle, Australia, emitido por Kayo Sports y Main Event, se producirá un evento con ni más ni menos que 20 peleas profesionales. Entre ellas destaca el enfrentamiento del peso superwélter entre el británico Sam “The Savage” Eggington 32(18KO)-7(2) y el exretador mundial irlandés Dennis “Hurricane” Hogan 30(7KO)-4(2)-1, quienes llegan a este crucial e interesante enfrentamiento encadenando victorias después de sus tropiezos, respectivamente, ante Ted Cheeseman y Tim Tszyu.
Además, en la velada se producirán la tercera pelea del olímpico australiano Paulo Aokuso 2(2KO)-0, que se medirá en el peso semipesado al exranqueado Faris Chevalier 13(7KO)-2; un choque del peso superligero bien emparejado entre Darragh Foley 20(9KO)-4-1 y Blake Minto 14(3KO)-3(1)-2; un nuevo combate para el peso superwélter Nikita Tszyu 3(2KO)-0 esta vez ante Darkon Dryden 4(4KO)-0; un enfrentamiento para subir puestos en el ranking para el peso supergallo Sam Goodman 12(7KO)-0 ante Jason Cooper 17(7KO)-3-1; y un rodaje para el peso crucero (6º WBO) David Light 18(11KO)-0 ante el indio Vikas Singh 11(6KO)-3(1)-1.
El sábado tendrán lugar también estos otros combates:
-En el Bolton Whites Hotel de Bolton, Reino Unido, emitido por YouTube, Liam “Dynamo” Taylor 24(11KO)-2(1)-1 y Martin Harkin 15(6KO)-2(1) tratarán de entrar en el ranking WBO peleando por un título menor del peso wélter.
-En el Club Unión Carmena de Carmen de Areco, Argentina, TyC Sports emitirá un campeonato de Sudamérica del peso superpluma entre Walter “El Distinto” Leiva 9(1KO)-3-1 y Requén “Topo” Arce 15(7KO)-7(3)-2, revancha de un igualado combate de 2021 (ganado por Leiva).
-En el Tech Port Arena de San Antonio, Estados Unidos, el peso superligero Kevin Johnson 11(7KO)-2 tratará de llevar a cinco su racha de victorias ante el mexicano Alejandro “La Ranita” Frías 13(6KO)-7(3)-2, que llega de ofrecer un duro combate a un invicto estadounidense.
-En el Doncaster Racecourse de Doncaster, Reino Unido, Zahid “The Magic Man” Hussain 16(2KO)-2(1) y Razaq Najib 12(2KO)-4 tratarán de capturar el vacante cinturón de Inglaterra del peso supergallo en una revancha del duelo que venció Najib por la mínima en 2019.
-En el Club Saga Heredia de Málaga, España, el peso supermedio Ayoub El Fahmi 5(2KO)-0 disputará una pelea de desarrollo ante un boxeador mucho más experimentado como el mexicano Marco Reyes 37(28KO)-9(3).
-En el Arena Riga de Riga, Letonia, el peso supermedio Kristaps Bulmeistars 10(5KO)-0 disputará el mayor combate de su carrera ante el alemán Nick Hannig 10(5KO)-1-1, mientras que el peso crucero Arturs Gorlovs 9(8KO)-2-1 buscará regresar a la senda del triunfo ante el argentino Mariano Ángel Gudino 14(9KO)-6(3).
Domingo 9 de octubre
Para terminar el artículo queda mencionar un par de peleas más que se producirán el domingo. Una de ellas tendrá lugar en Parañaque, Filipinas, y será un interesante combate del peso mosca entre dos exretadores mundiales como Vince Paras 17(15KO)-2-1, 15º IBF, y Robert Paradero 18(12KO)-2(1)-1, que pugnaron el pasado abril en un disputado encuentro terminado con resultado de empate.
Por otro lado, en Port Elizabeth, Sudáfrica, el siempre competente argentino Diego “El Profeta” Ruiz 23(12KO)-5(1)-1 buscará sorprender al local Thato Bonokoane 13(9KO)-5(1)-3 en un combate del peso supergallo.

Last week didn’t have a great average level, and this one won’t either, although two cards from big promotional companies will make a difference… that is if one of these events ends up happening.
Thursday, October 6
Like so many other Thursdays, on this day there will be an evening broadcast by UFC Fight Pass, this time from Houston, United States. The main bout will be a super welterweight clash in which undefeated Greek prospect Andreas Katzourakis 7(5KO)-0 will face a good eight-round test against an opponent with a very misleading record like the American Cameron Krael 19(6KO)-22(2)-3, a boxer with technical qualities, who has had countless meritorious performances and close fights against distinguished opponents and who has also suffered multiple controversial defeats.
On the other hand, at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, United States, super welterweight Greg «The Villain» Vendetti 23(12KO)-4(1)-1, better known for his losses to Erislandy Lara and Michel Soro, will put an end to a year of inactivity fighting a capable stepping stone like Courtney Pennington 15(7KO)-5(1)-3, while undefeated heavyweight Mike Balogun 19(15KO)-0 will face a easy stay-busy fight, awaiting a significant bout, battling cruiserweight Marcus Oliveira 28(22KO)-8(1)-1.
Friday, October 7
On Friday there will be very few bouts as well. The most notable event is the one that will take place at the Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, United States, organized by Pro Box Promotions, the main event being a featherweight match in which the Chinese Can Xu 18(3KO)-3(1) will end 15 months of inactivity (since his loss to Leigh Wood). These are the Mexican Hernán “Tyson” Márquez 46(33KO)-10(7)-2 and Luis “Nica” Concepción 40(29KO)-9(4), who have clashed three times with results of two wins by KO for Márquez and one by decision for Concepción. Given that the Mexican seems to have lost even more level than his opponent, it would not be surprising if Concepción could even the score at 2-2 in this inconsequential bout.
Saturday, October 8
In principle, the fight that was going to attract the most attention was the catchweight duel between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, but the bout and the event have ended up being canceled despite an immoral attempt by Eddie Hearn to go ahead with it.
Premier Boxing Champions will offer an evening on Saturday. To finish the article, a couple of fights that will happen on Sunday remain to be mentioned. One of them will take place in Parañaque, Philippines, and it will be an interesting flyweight fight between two former world title challengers as Vince Paras 17(15KO)-2-1, 15th IBF, and Robert Paradero 18(12KO)-2(1)-1, who fought last April in a contested match that ended in a draw.
On the other hand, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, the allways competent Argentinian Diego “El Profeta” Ruiz 23(12KO)-5(1)-1 will look to upset the local Thato Bonokoane 13(9KO)-5(1)-3 in a super bantamweight bout.
