En el enfrentamiento de revancha, el excampeón mundial filipino Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas 33(22KO)-3-2 tuvo una mejor elección estratégica que en el primer duelo ante el argentino Fernando Daniel “Pumita” Martínez 15(8KO)-0. No obstante, esto no le sirvió para desquitarse. Al contrario, Martínez si cabe consiguió una victoria más contundente aún, moviendo numerosas veces a Ancajas antes de derrotarlo por decisión unánime (119-109, 118-110, 118-110).
En esta ocasión, al comienzo Ancajas no cometió el error de quedarse parado en el centro del ring para intercambiar en la distancia media y corta, sino que el zurdo excampeón intentó moverse todo lo que pudo y trató de frenar el avance de su rival con sus uno-dos. Sin embargo, el ímpetu de Martínez resultó nuevamente encomiable e incontenible, acortando los espacios pese a los golpes recibidos y conectando potentes ganchos que fueron los puños más significativos y que sacudieron la cabeza de su oponente.
Igualmente, Ancajas no estaba dispuesto a rendirse, por lo que se movió con rapidez y siguió lanzando largos directos y cruzados diestros a la contra junto a pasos laterales, aunque todo ello no evitó que “Puma” cargase contra él de forma constante y conectase duros hooks arriba y abajo. De hecho, cuando el filipino llegó con alguna buena, afilada y nítida mano, entonces Martínez arremetió seguidamente con todavía más furia y agresividad lanzando andanadas de curvos.
Contra un oponente con ese grado de determinación, fortaleza y combatividad eficaz, Ancajas lo tenía muy difícil, y en el séptimo round (en el que padeció un corte por choque de cabezas) fue estremecido varias veces por los ganchos del argentino, si bien pese a los apuros replicó con enorme valentía. Posteriormente, en diversas ocasiones Ancajas se vio en problemas, algunos de ellos bastante serios, pero resistió a base de tesón ante un Martínez que a la larga espació más sus ataques.
A no ser que algún otro titular le dé una oportunidad buscando añadir un nombre importante a su récord, Ancajas deberá abordar ahora una escalada en las listas antes de poder volver a apuntar a una nueva pelea mundialista a largo plazo.
En cuanto a Martínez, por segunda vez en Estados Unidos y ante un oponente que ha sido miembro de la élite de la división durante años, demostró que tiene grandes cualidades por su capacidad para desplegar intensas ofensivas con numerosos aciertos de forma consistente. Así, y sumándose a ello fuerza, gran gestión de los golpes de poder y capacidad de reacción bajo fuego, Martínez parece un oponente con posibilidades de generar grandes dificultades a cualquiera en la categoría supermosca.
En dicho peso, si no logra pactar una unificación, pronto tendrá que encarar una defensa obligatoria ante otro filipino como el invicto Jade Bornea.

In the rematch, Filipino former world champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas 33(22KO)-3-2 had a better strategic choice than in the first duel against the Argentinian Fernando Daniel “Puma” Martínez 15(8KO)-0. However, this did not serve him to get revenge. On the contrary, Martínez got an even more convincing victory rocking Ancajas numerous times before defeating him by unanimous decision (119-109, 118-110, 118-110).
On this occasion, at the beginning Ancajas did not make the mistake of standing in the center of the ring to exchange at middle and short distance, but rather tried to move as much as he could while looking to stop his opponent’s advance with his one-twos. However, Martinez’s pressure was again commendable and unstoppable, closing the distance fast despite the blows received and landing powerful hooks that were the most significant punches and shook his opponent’s head.
Nevertheless, Ancajas was not willing to give up, so he moved quickly and kept throwing long straight shots and counter right hooks linked with lateral steps, although all this did not prevent “Puma” from charging consistently and connecting hard hooks up and down. In fact, when the Filipino landed some good, sharp, clean hands, then Martinez answered with even more fury unleashing barrages of hooks.
Against an opponent with that degree of determination, strength and effective aggressiveness, Ancajas was in a very difficult fight, and in the seventh round (in which he suffered a cut due to a clash of heads) he was rocked several times by the Argentinian’s hooks, although he replied with enormous courage. Later, on several ocassions Ancajas was again in trouble, some of them quite serious, but he resisted tenaciously against Martínez, who in the last stretch spaced out his attacks more.
Unless some other titlist gives him a fight trying to add an important name to his record, Ancajas will now have to face a climb in the rankings before he can once again aim in the long-term to a new world championship bout.
As for Martínez, for the second time in the United States and against an opponent who has been a member of the elite of the division for years, he showed that he has great qualities due to his ability to consistently deploy intense offensives with numerous punches landed. Thus, and adding to this his strength, his great management of power punches and his capacity to react under fire, Martínez seems like an opponent with the potential to generate great difficulties for anyone in the super flyweight division.
At that weight class, if he fails to reach a unification, he will soon have to face a mandatory defense against another Filipino like the undefeated Jade Bornea.
