Mailys Gangloff derrotó en intensa guerra a la invicta campeona de Francia y Europa gallo Delphine Mancini (Vídeo del evento)

Con una extensa carrera amateur a sus espaldas, en la que tuvo experiencia internacional, y un firme avance como profesional en el que se había coronado campeona de Francia y de Europa (como visitante en Alemania ante una prospecta invicta), la invicta peso gallo francesa Delphine Mancini 5(0KO)-1 parecía bien encaminada hacia importantes objetivos y entraba como favorita a su duelo ante la piedra de toque Mailys Gangloff 7(2KO)-3.
Sin embargo, Gangloff ofreció una muy meritoria actuación a base de gran combatividad y, en una dura pelea con mucha intensidad e intercambios, se coronó campeona de Europa por merecida decisión unánime y puntuaciones de 98-92 y doble 96-94.
Ante el mayor campeonato de su carrera hasta la fecha, Gangloff no estaba dispuesta a desaprovechar la oportunidad, abalanzándose desde el comienzo sobre su rival con gran agresividad lanzando constantes series de curvos. Mancini, contra las cuerdas, intentó tirar de precisión para llegar con directos diestros y cruzados zurdos, pero el número de hooks (destacando los conectados al torso) de Gangloff fue suficiente para decantar de su lado las acciones.
Gradualmente, Mancini fue incrementando su movilidad y se anticipó más en el golpeo, por lo que encontró huecos para precisos directos diestros y cruzados de derecha. Pero incluso cuando brevemente tomó la iniciativa en el cuarto round, Gangloff le replicó rápido con nítidos hooks al rostro. Las cosas se le estaban poniendo complicadas a la invicta, y eso la llevó a intercambiar en corta a la desesperada, algo que favoreció al tipo de boxeo que estaba ofreciendo Gangloff, que conectó entonces furiosos uppercuts y ganchos a la cabeza.
Algo cansada, Mancini intentó ajustar y poner espacios de nuevo, pero Gangloff había acumulado mucha moral y la persiguió impactando buenos curvos de mano adelantada y derechazos. Además, aunque no hubo cuenta y la cámara no permitió ver la acción con claridad, Mancini tocó la lona tras lo que pareció un cruzado zurdo y no un empujón.
Sea como sea, aunque la retadora siguió ofreciendo en general un empuje encomiable, en el último tramo fue ella quien se cansó visiblemente a la vez que Mancini encontró un segundo aire, lo que le permitió a la invicta campeona no verse tan presionada, dar más recorrido a sus golpes y poder explotar algo más su habilidad, reduciendo la distancia en las tarjetas, pero no lo suficiente.
Gangloff ofreció otro ejemplo más de que, aunque un boxeador no parta como favorito y no se espere su triunfo, no debe dejarse abrumar por la condición de no favorito, pudiendo aspirar perfectamente al triunfo si lo da absolutamente todo y se apoya en sus cualidades y minimiza las de su rival. Además, en el caso de que Gangloff no hubiese logrado el triunfo habría ofrecido igualmente una actuación muchísimo superior a la de tantos otros retadores que se cohíben ante una gran oportunidad.
En cualquier caso, Gangloff venció y se proclamó campeona de Europa lo que, sumado a su controvertida derrota ante la campeona mundial Ebanie Bridges (Gangloff tuvo otro tropiezo cuestionable más al principio de su carrera), la convierte en un nombre relevante en el peso gallo actual, en el que seguramente reciba un buen posicionamiento en los rankings mundiales y le permita apuntar a una importante nueva oportunidad internacional.

With an extensive amateur career, in which she had international experience, and a steady advance as a professional in which she had been crowned French and European champion (as a visitor in Germany against an unbeaten boxer), the undefeated bantamweight Delphine Mancini 5(0KO)-1 seemed well on her way to reaching some important bouts and entered her duel against the stepping stone Mailys Gangloff 7(2KO)-3 as the favorite.
However, Gangloff offered a very meritorious performance based on great combativeness and, in a tough fight with a lot of intensity and exchanges, she was crowned European champion by deserved unanimous decision and scores of 98-92 and double 96-94.
Facing the biggest championship of her career to date, Gangloff wasn’t about to waste the opportunity. On the contrary, she attacked her rival with great aggressiveness from the start, throwing constant combinations of hooks. Mancini, against the ropes, tried to use her precision to land straight rights and lead hands, but the number of hooks (highlighting those connected to the torso) from Gangloff was enough for the latter to win the rounds.
Gradually, Mancini increased her mobility and tried to punch first, and she found openings for precise straight rights and overhands. But even when she briefly took the initiative in the fourth round, Gangloff was quick to reply with crisp hooks to the face. Things were getting tough for the undefeated, and that led her to trade shots desperately, something that favored the kind of boxing Gangloff was offering, so the challenger then landed furious uppercuts and hooks to the head.
Somewhat tired, Mancini tried to adjust and create distance again, but Gangloff had built up a lot of morale and chased her opponent hitting her with good left hooks and right hands. Also, although there was no count and the camera did not allow to see the action clearly, Mancini touched the canvas after what seemed like a left hook and not a push.
Be that as it may, although the challenger continued to offer overall a commendable effort, in the last stretch of the fight she got visibly tired while Mancini found a second wind. That decreased the pressure over the undefeated champion, gave her more space to punch and allowed her to exploit his ability a little more, so she reduced the difference on the scorecards, but not enough.
This was another example that, when a boxer is not the favorite and his victory is not expected, he should not let himself be overwhelmed by the label of underdog, because he may be perfectly able to aspire to victory if he gives absolutely everything he has and relies on his qualities and minimizes those of his rival. Furthermore, had Gangloff not won, she would still have put up a far superior performance than so many other challengers who show lack of confidence in a big opportunity.
In any case, Gangloff won and was crowned European champion which, added to her controversial loss to world champion Ebanie Bridges (Gangloff had another questionable loss early in her career), makes her a relevant name in the current bantamweight division. In fact, she will surely receive a good position in the world rankings and she could target an important international fight.
