Aunque llegó a dejar tocado en una ocasión a Demetrius Andrade y casi logra remontar en la segunda parte de su combate ante Chris Eubank Jr., el exretador mundial británico Liam Williams 24(19KO)-4(1)-1 había sufrido dos derrotas en sus últimas dos peleas y necesitaba regresar a la senda del triunfo. Por este motivo se midió al competente francés Nizar Trimech 9(4KO)-4(2)-2, boxeador con múltiples actuaciones meritorias (entre ellas un empate en Polonia ante el exretador mundial Kamil Szeremeta) pero que no pudo soportar la pegada de Williams y sufrió en el segundo round la derrota más rápida de su carrera.
Estaba claro que Williams salió al ring a desquitarse de su actuación ante Eubank (en la que padeció cuatro knockdowns), avanzando sobre su contrincante lanzando tensos jabs y fuertes uno-dos. Cietros clinches frenaron algo el progreso del británico, pero Trimech no tenía la potencia para hacerse respetar ante Williams, que a falta de algo más de un minuto para el final del primer asalto le derribó con el golpe final de una serie uno-dos-uno. En la reanudación Williams se abalanzó sobre el francés precipitadamente y recibió peligrosos cruzados a la contra, aunque terminó dañando otra vez a Trimech con un derechazo al final del round.
Finalmente, en el segundo episodio, tras algunos amenazantes ataques más del local, contragolpes de Trimech y nuevos agarres, un brutal derechazo estalló contra el visitante, que ya no tenía posibilidades de seguir antes de que un fuerte gancho zurdo le tumbase sobre la lona.
La pegada de Williams es incuestionable y eso siempre le dará una posibilidad de éxito incluso en los choques más desfavorables. Con todo, es un boxeador cuyo encaje no está a la altura de su potencia, que tiene claras brechas defensivas y que puede ser superado a base de técnica y táctica, por lo que en futuros duelos en la cumbre de la división a nivel mundial difícilmente podrá partir como favorito, eso si llega a alcanzarlos.
De todos modos, Williams siempre ofrece peleas entretenidas y parece un oponente muy interesante para púgiles de su país como Felix Cash, Denzel Bentley, Hamzah Sheeraz, Kieron Conway, etc. Así que es de esperar que en 2023 le veamos participando en una pelea de calibre en Reino Unido.
Por otro lado, en cuanto a Harlem Eubank 16(6KO)-0, éste cumplió los pronósticos y logró una amplia victoria por decisión unánime (99-91, 99-91 y 99-92) en su combate del peso superligero ante Tom Farrell 21(5KO)-6(1), dejando claro una vez más que necesita un paso adelante y empezar a apuntar a peleas titulares en el ámbito nacional.

Although he once hurt Demetrius Andrade and almost managed to come back in the second part of his fight against Chris Eubank Jr., the British former world title challenger Liam Williams 24(19KO)-4(1)-1 had suffered two defeats in his last two fights and needed to return to the winning ways. For this reason, he faced the competent Frenchman Nizar Trimech 9(4KO)-4(2)-2, a boxer with multiple meritorious performances (among them a draw in Poland against the former world challenger Kamil Szeremeta) but who could not withstand the punch of Williams and suffered in the second round the fastest defeat of his career.
It was clear that Williams entered the ring willing to make forget his performance against Eubank (in which he suffered four knockdowns), advancing on his opponent throwing hard jabs and one-twos. Somes clinches slowed the Briton’s progress somewhat, but Trimech did not have the power to hold his ground against Williams, who with just over a minute to go in the first round knocked him down with the final blow of a one-two-one combination. At the restart, Williams rushed in his attacks and the Frenchman countered him with dangerous hooks, though he ended up hurting Trimech again with a right hand late in the round.
Finally, in the second episode, after some more threatening attacks from the local, counterpunches from Trimech and new clinches, a brutal right hand crashed against the visitor, who was dropped to the canvas by a hard left hook while the referee stopped the bout.
Williams’ punching power is unquestionable and that will always give him a chance of success even in the most unfavorable fights. All in all, he is a boxer whose chin is not up to his power, who has clear defensive flaws and who can be defeated with technique and good tactical management, so in future duels at the top of the division it will be difficult for him to be considered favorite. That is if he is able to reach a new big fight at the world level.
Anyway, Williams always offers entertaining fights and he seems a very interesting opponent for boxers from the UK like Felix Cash, Denzel Bentley, Hamzah Sheeraz, Kieron Conway, etc. So it is to be expected that in 2023 we will see him fighting in an important fight in the British scene.
