Los dos cruces ante Anthony Yarde fueron una de cal y otra de arena para el peso semipesado Lyndon “King Arthur” 21(15KO)-1(1), que se dio a conocer más y se impulsó con su victoria (si bien fue controvertida) pero que vio sus aspiraciones internacionales frenarse en seco con el KO en el cuatro round que sufrió en la revancha. Así, Arthur está ahora en proceso de recuperación, situación en la que anoche, en el respaldo del Williamson-Kelly, dio un paso adelante noqueando en el segundo round al campeón de Inglaterra Joel “El Toro” McIntyre 20(5KO)-5(2).
La forma de derrotar a Arthur es presionarle con intensidad y no dejarle pensar, pero McIntyre avanzó escasamente y se situó en la distancia larga o media-larga, desde la cual su rival le llegó con sus espaciados jabs y todavía más escasas derechas rectas. Sólo cuando muy esporádicamente McIntyre se decidió a atacar con algo de decisión, Arthur recurrió al clinch para que las acciones se parasen y pudiese volver a usar su boxeo de bajo ritmo.
Las cosas se mantuvieron así hasta que en el segundo round un derechazo sorprendió a McIntyre, que se tambaleó. Aunque estaba afectado intentó realizar contraofensivas, pero fue alcanzado una y otra vez por nítidos directos diestros de Arthur hasta que quedó fijado en las cuerdas y una combinación de curvos obligó al árbitro a, acertadamente, detener el choque.
Dado que ya se ha estabilizado, ha recuperado moral y ha sumado un par de triunfos por KOT, parece que Arthur en 2023 volverá a disputar una pelea decisiva en el circuito de su país. En este sentido, dejando de lado a los números 1 WBC, Callum Smith, WBA, Joshua Buatsi, y WBO, Anthony Yarde, que evidentemente están centrados en alcanzar un mundial, Arthur tendría potenciales peleas interesantes como Craig Richards, Shakan Pitters o Willy Hutchinson, además de un objetivo incluso más lógico y provechoso como la disputa de su primer campeonato británico ante el ganador del choque Dan Azeez vs. Rocky Fielding.
En cualquier caso, Arthur necesita mejorar el ritmo de su boxeo o encontrar la forma de enfriar de manera eficaz los combates a través de su alcance. Y es que no puede depender de que su oponente dude al ataque para poder boxear cómodamente, menos aún en los retos decisivos que le llegarán en el futuro cercano.

The two matches against Anthony Yarde had positive and negative consequences for light heavyweight Lyndon “King Arthur” 21(15KO)-1(1), who became more known and boosted his career with his victory (although it was controversial) but saw his international aspirations stopped with the fourth round KO he suffered in the rematch. Thus, Arthur is now in a recovery process, a situation in which last night, in Williamson-Kelly’s co-feature, he took a step forward by knocking out in two rounds English champion Joel «El Toro» McIntyre 20(5KO)-5(2).
The way to beat Arthur is to pressure him hard and not let him think, but McIntyre barely advanced and he stood at long or medium-long range, so his opponent hit him with some jabs and very few straight right hands. Only when very sporadically McIntyre decided to attack with some determination, Arthur resorted to the clinch to stop his opponent’s progression and return to his low-paced boxing.
Things stayed that way until in the second round a good right hand crashed against McIntyre, who staggered. Although he was hurt he tried to counterattack, but he was hit again and again by sharp right hands from Arthur until he was pinned on the ropes and a combination of hooks forced the referee to stop the clash.
Given that he has already stabilized, has recovered his morale and has scored a couple of TKO wins, it seems that, in 2023, Arthur will once again face a decisive fight in his country. In this sense, leaving aside the number 1 WBC, Callum Smith, the number 1 WBA, Joshua Buatsi, and the number 1 WBO, Anthony Yarde, who are obviously focused on reaching a world title fight, Arthur has interesting potential options in Craig Richards, Shakan Pitters or Willy Hutchinson, in addition to an even more logical and profitable objective such as the British championship against the winner of the Dan Azeez vs. Rocky Fielding fight.
In any case, Arthur needs to improve the pace of his boxing or find a way to effectively slow down the bouts through his reach, since he cannot depend on his opponents hesitating to attack to be able to box comfortably, even less in the decisive challenges that he will have to face in the near future.
