La WBA está celebrando estos días su convención anual, así que se está aprovechando para acometer diversos temas. Entre ellos se encontraban las subastas de tres pugnas, una de las cuales no se ha llevado a cabo.
Esta ha sido la del mundial WBA del peso pluma Leo Santa Cruz vs. Leigh Wood, ya que el primero de ambos, tras cerca de cuatro años sin realizar ni una sola defensa de su título, al fin ha dejado vacante su corona. De ese modo, Wood se ha convertido en el máximo titular WBA del peso pluma y ahora sí está en posición de unificar con otros monarcas, algo que no podía haber hecho con el cinto regular que hasta ahora poseía.
Por otro lado, la subasta para la eliminatoria WBA del peso wélter Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Eimantas Stanionis ha terminado con Golden Boy Promotions (que representa a Ortiz) ganando los derechos de organización del combate con una puja de 2.300.000. Esta cantidad ha sobrepasado por 200.000 dólares la cantidad propuesta por PBC, es decir 2.100.000 dólares. De todos modos, está por verse que PBC y Probellum, que están involucrados en la carrera de Stanionis, estén dispuestos a dejar que su púgil encare este choque en un evento de Golden Boy/DAZN en lugar mantenerlo bajo su control y utilizarlo en el momento adecuado para sus intereses.
Otro choque que tampoco está claro que se dispute, pero que sin duda ha resultado una noticia llamativa, ha sido el ordenado campeonato mundial del peso pesado entre el campeón unificado Oleksandr Usyk y el titular regular Daniel Dubois. En algún momento u otro tanto el retador WBO Joe Joyce como el aspirante IBF Filip Hrgović han afirmado también que ellos eran quienes debían acceder al mundial a continuación, y en el caso de Hrgović incluso ya se ordenó la pelea y se solicitó una subasta inmediata por parte de Matchroom.
No obstante, se asegura que Usyk y Tyson Fury están muy cerca de anunciar su pelea por el título indiscutido del peso pesado y resultaría sorprendente que, en caso de que la pugna se confirmase, los organismos se interpusiesen en su camino por apoyar la causa cuestionable de un retador obligatorio.
Finalmente, en cuanto a la tercera subasta programada, la concerniente al mundial WBA del peso mínimo entre el monarca Thammanoon Niyomtrong y el aspirante oficial Erick Rosa, Petchyindee Boxing Promotions ha ganado los derechos de organización con una puja de 140.000 dólares, superando a la propuesta de Shuan Boxing de 122.000 dólares. Así, el duelo se desarrollará en Tailandia, teniendo como fechas tentativas el 22 de febrero y el 2 de marzo.

On the other hand, the purse bid for the WBA welterweight eliminator Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Eimantas Stanionis ended with Golden Boy Promotions (which represents Ortiz) winning the rights to organize the bout with a bid of $2,300,000. This amount has exceeded by $200,000 the PBC’s bid, that is, $2,100,000. In any case, it remains to be seen whether PBC and Probellum, who are involved in Stanionis’s career, will be willing to let their fighter face this clash at a Golden Boy/DAZN event rather than keeping him under their control and using him in the best suitable moment for their interests.
Another clash that is not clear if it will happen, but that has certainly been an striking news, has been the ordered world heavyweight championship between unified champion Oleksandr Usyk and regular titleholder Daniel Dubois. At one time or another, both the WBO challenger Joe Joyce and the IBF challenger Filip Hrgović have also assured that they were the ones who should access the world championship next, and in Hrgović’s case, the bout was even ordered and a purse bid was requested by Matchroom Boxing.

Thus, the duel will take place in Thailand, with tentative dates on February 22 and March 2.
