Tras su polémico rechazo a pelear contra Regis Prograis, José Carlos Ramírez se enfrentará a Richard Commey

Si la pelea se produjese en otra situación no necesariamente sería objeto de críticas demasiado duras. Pero en el contexto en el que va a tener lugar, es lógico que a los fans no les entusiasme precisamente la idea de que el excampeón mundial del peso superligero José Carlos Ramírez se vaya a enfrentar a continuación al extitular mundial del peso ligero Richard Commey. Estos púgiles han alcanzado un acuerdo para medirse el día 25 de marzo encabezando una velada de Top Rank/ESPN desde el Save Mart Center de Fresno, Estados Unidos.
Hay que recordar que Ramírez, aspirante obligatorio al título mundial WBC desde hace muchos meses, primero rechazó la pelea por el título vacante contra Regis Prograis alegando que iba a casarse. Posteriormente, cuando se le volvió a dar acceso a la pelea titular, Ramírez se negó a negociar y, usando como excusa la repartición de la bolsa en caso de subasta, rechazó el combate. Además de esta muy criticada conducta, Ramírez ha reprochado recientemente a varios peso ligero destacados que no asumen los suficientes riesgos.
Por ello, aunque sin todo lo arriba mencionado, un duelo Ramírez-Commey sería visto como un interesante choque de estilos entre aspirantes del peso superligero, que ahora mismo el primero de ambos se mida a un expeso ligero que llega de un empate, inevitablemente le ha supuesto recibir nuevas críticas.
Teniendo en cuenta que tanto Ramírez como Commey están bien clasificados en la WBO, el ganador seguro que quedará muy cerca de la disputa de un mundial, que incluso podría alcanzar ante el ganador del Teófimo López vs. Liam Paro si Josh Taylor gana la revancha ante Jack Catterall y luego deja su corona vacante.
Respecto al respaldo principal del Ramírez-Commey, la pugna coestelar que también se incluirá en la emisión de ESPN será una unificación de coronas del peso mínimo femenino en la que Seniesa Estrada será clara favorita para derrotar a la alemana Tina Rupprecht.
