Riakporhe derrotó por KOT a Glowacki, Essuman retuvo título británico con gran segunda mitad

Puede que el británico Richard Riakporhe 16(12KO)-0 esté preparado para disputar un mundial o puede que no lo esté, pero su victoria ante un muy venido a menos excampeón mundial como el polaco Krzysztof Glowacki 32(20KO)-3(2) no sirvió para dar respuestas innegables en este sentido. Riakporhe logró la previsible victoria por KOT en el cuarto round.
Riakporhe cedió la iniciativa y usó su jab y contragolpes en directo diestro antes de dejar tocado y tambalear a Glowacki con un derechazo en el segundo asalto. Esto debería haber llevado al invicto a volcarse al ataque buscando la detención, pero se mantuvo intercambiando esporádicos directos con Glowacki desde la distancia media hasta el cuarto episodio, cuando todo terminó. Una combinación de ganchos dejó tocado al visitante, que fue golpeado en una esquina por potentes hooks sin respuesta hasta que el árbitro paró el choque.
Essuman retuvo título británico
Por si hasta ahora el campeón británico y de la Commonwealth del peso wélter Ekow “The Engine” Essuman 19(7KO)-0 hubiese demostrado poco con su buena cadena de triunfos, el sábado añadió a ella otra gran victoria más. Y es que boxeando en una velada de la promotora del hábil aspirante Chris “2Slick” Kongo 14(7KO)-2, Essuman fue de menos a más hasta poner en apuros a su contrincante y asegurarse una merecida victoria por decisión mayoritaria. Las puntuaciones fueron de 114-114, 115-114 y 116-113.
Kongo comenzó mucho más activo que en otras ocasiones, lanzando su jab con notable frecuencia, pero Essuman impactó buenos curvos diestros en el primer round, destacando un gran cruzado a la cabeza. De todos modos, en adelante Kongo se apoyó en su velocidad de manos, en su habilidad, en su precisión y en su aumentada cadencia de golpes para imponer sus directos y hacer la pelea difícil para un Essuman que no lograba alcanzar la distancia que necesitaba para sacar sus manos. Y es que desde lejos Kongo explotaba su ventaja en alcance y cuando Essuman arremetía le esquivaba, le agarraba o le contragolpeaba con ganchos zurdos.
No obstante, “The Engine” no es un púgil que se rinda con facilidad, menos aún contando con tanta resistencia al cansancio, por lo que hacia la mitad aumentó su presión, encerró al aspirante y conectó andanadas de hooks y series de rectos. Con su aumento de agresividad incomodó a Kongo, que ya no podía mantener con tanta facilidad la distancia y que no podía utilizar tanto su jab. Alcanzado el último tercio Kongo intentó reaccionar, pero en el noveno episodio fue encerrado en las cuerdas y dañado por los ganchos al rostro de Essuman.
Kongo hizo todo lo que pudo para sacudirse la presión, pero terminó siendo intensamente atacado en las cuerdas por el campeón en el undécimo asalto y puesto en serios apuros en el último round con un cruzado diestro que le arrojó contra las cuerdas.

The British Richard Riakporhe 16(12KO)-0 may be ready to face a world title bout or he may not be, but his victory against the very faded former world champion Krzysztof Glowacki 32(20KO)-4(3) did not help to give clear answers in this regard. Riakporhe achieved the predictable victory by fourth round TKO.
Riakporhe renounced to have the initiative and used his jab and right hand counterpunches before hurting and staggering Glowacki with a straight shot in the second round. This should have prompted the undefeated to attack more looking for the stoppage, but he kept trading sporadic straight hands with Glowacki from middle range until the fourth round, when the fight ended. A combination of hooks hurt the visitor, who was hit in a corner by powerful unanswered hooks until the referee stopped the match.
Essuman retained British title
On Saturday, British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Ekow “The Engine” Essuman 19(7KO)-0 added another big win to his fine string of victories. Boxing in an evening organized by the promoter of the skillful Chris «2Slick» Kongo’s 14(7KO)-2, Essuman gradually increased his successes until putting his opponent in trouble and securing a well-deserved victory by majority decision. The scores were 114-114, 115-114 and 116-113.
Kongo started out much more active than in other bouts, jabbing with notable frequency, but Essuman landed good right hooks in the first round, highlighting one with which he rocked his opponent. In any case, from then on Kongo relied on his hand speed, his skill, his precision and his good punch rate to impose his straight hands and make the fight difficult for Essuman, who could not reach the distance he needed to throw his hands. From long range Kongo exploited his reach advantage and when Essuman attacked, he dodged, clinched or counterpunched with left hooks.
However, «The Engine» is not a fighter who gives up easily, even less having so much stamina, so towards the half point he increased his pressure, pinned the challenger on the ropes and connected combinations of hooks and hard straight hands. With his aggressiveness he made Kongo uncomfortable, since the latter couldn’t keep his distance and he couldn’t use his jab as much. In the last third Kongo tried to react, but in the ninth round he was cornered again and hurt by Essuman’s hooks to the face.
Kongo did his best trying to shake off the pressure, but ended up being intensely attacked on the ropes by the champion in the eleventh round and was put into serious trouble in the final round with a right overhand.
