Claudio Daneff se proclamó campeón de Argentina del peso superligero ante Dorian Maidana

Después de haber reinado como campeón de Argentina del peso ligero desde agosto de 2021, habiendo sido su tercera defensa el pasado noviembre, Claudio “Chaito” Daneff 18(8KO)-2(1)-1 buscó coronarse en una nueva división peleando por el vacante cetro argentino del peso superligero ante el coaspirante Dorian “El Atrevido” Maidana 8(5KO)-2(1). Ante este púgil con mucha menor experiencia de calidad, Daneff era claro favorito sobre el papel, pero tuvo una pelea disputada y sólo pudo imponerse por decisión dividida y puntuaciones de 95-94, 96-94 y 93-97.
Maidana arrancó con agilidad de piernas y actividad de manos, lo que le permitió tener éxitos en el primer round, si bien en el segundo el zurdo Daneff tuvo mejor timing y con bien seleccionados golpes aislados fue superior. Tácticamente, estos dos asaltos esbozaron la tónica general, dado que en la pelea se mezclaron los momentos en los que un Maidana móvil sacaba veloces combinaciones en entradas y salidas y los instantes en los que Daneff imponía su fuerza y sus golpes de poder.
Quizás Maidana estaba teniendo un ligero margen por su frecuencia de golpes, pero en el quinto round Daneff sumó un knockdown con un uppercut de izquierda (a la vez que su rival tropezaba) que no quebró a su oponente pero que fue decisivo en las tarjetas. La caída convenció a Maidana de la necesidad de poner más contundencia en sus puños, atacando más en la reanudación y llegando con algunos nítidos golpes en el sexto episodio. No obstante, para el séptimo round Daneff había ajustado ya y pudo contragolpear con cruzados y rectos mientras se reposicionaba para castigar las entradas de su contrincante y contener su agresividad.
Buscando sellar su victoria, en el octavo round Daneff incluso tomó la iniciativa, pero en el noveno un cruzado de Maidana le sorprendió y le dañó un tanto, aunque se agarró rápidamente y no tardó en recuperarse. De ese modo, en el resto del asalto y en el siguiente Daneff volvió a hacer valer su precisión con manos aisladas atacando o contragolpeando y logró conquistar una nueva corona nacional.
Daneff encadena siete triunfos desde su derrota ante Agustín Quintana, pero en sus dos últimas subidas al ring sólo ha logrado victorias divididas antes púgiles con menos de una decena de peleas de experiencia, lo que no es un gran precedente de cara a los retos exigentes que seguramente le llegarán más adelante en la temporada. Por ello, parece necesario que Daneff ajuste la repartición de su trabajo durante los asaltos y durante la pelea en general para no depender tanto de su eficacia en acciones puntuales, que no es suficiente a ojos de los jueces que valoran más el volumen de golpes.

After having reigned as Argentine lightweight champion since August 2021, having made his third defense last November, Claudio «Chaito» Daneff 18(8KO)-2(1)-1 sought to be crowned in a new division fighting for the vacant Argentine super lightweight title against Dorian “El Atrevido” Maidana 8(5KO)-2(1). Against this fighter with much less quality experience, Daneff was the clear favorite on paper, but on the ring it was a close fight in which he could only prevail by split decision (95-94, 96-94 and 93-97).
Maidana started with agility in his legs and activity in his hands, which allowed him to be successful in the first round, although in the second the southpaw Daneff had better timing and, with well-selected isolated shots, he was superior. Tactically, these two rounds outlined the general trend, since the fight mixed the moments in which the mobile Maidana threw fast combinations going in and out and the moments in which Daneff imposed his strength and his power punches.
Perhaps Maidana was on the lead by a slight difference due to his work rate, but in the fifth round Daneff scored a knockdown with a left uppercut (as his opponent stumbled) that did not hurt his opponent but was decisive in the cards. The knockdown convinced Maidana of the need to put more forcefulness in his fists, attacking more after the restart and landing some clear shots in the sixth round. However, by the seventh round Daneff had already adjusted and was able to counterpunch with hooks and straight shots while repositioning himself to punish his opponent’s charges and contain his aggressiveness.
Seeking to seal his victory, in the eighth round Daneff even took the initiative, but in the ninth an overhand from Maidana surprised him and hurt him, although he quickly clinched and soon recovered. In this way, in the rest of the round and in the following Daneff returned to impose his precision with isolated hands attacking or counterattacking and managed to conquer a new national crown.
Daneff has stringed seven wins since his defeat against Agustín Quintana, but in his last two outings he has only achieved split decision victories against fighters with less than a dozen fights of experience, which is not a great precedent in the face of the demanding challenges that await him later in the season. For this reason, it seems necessary for Daneff to adjust the distribution of his work during the rounds and during the fight in general so as not to depend so much on his effectiveness in specific actions, which is not enough for the judges who value more a high punch output.
