Declaraciones de Matías, Ponce, James, Palmetta, Rodríguez y Adorno respecto a sus combates del 25 de febrero

El día 25 de febrero en The Armory en Minneapolis, Estados Unidos, Showtime televisará un cartel en el que el puertorriqueño Subriel Matías espera culminar su objetivo de lograr el cinto mundial IBF del peso superligero tras una extensa preparación:
“Estoy agradecido de que haya ahora una fecha para este combate para que finalmente pueda realizar mi sueño de convertirme en campeón mundial. He estado lejos de mi familia durante diez meses en México, sólo preparándome y poniéndome a punto hasta que llegue el momento de entrar en el ring. Ahora que está a mi vista, no hay nada que vaya a ponerse en mi camino”.
Su rival, el argentino Jeremías Ponce, también asegura que no va a dejarse frenar por obstáculos para alcanzar su meta, a la que se aproxima con mucha motivación:
“Prometo que vengo a este combate preparado para hacer cualquier cosa que haga falta para alcanzar mi sueño de convertirme en campeón mundial. En mi mente, este es mi combate y ese título ya es mío. Cualquiera que se interponga en mi camino va a ver por qué estoy invicto y por qué he ganado esta posición en la que estoy”.
A pesar de que en su último combate fue demolido por Butaev, al estadounidense Jamal James no le faltó sobreconfianza de cara a su retorno a casa, considerándose incluso a sí mismo uno de los mejores de la división de las 147 lb en esta generación:
“El entrenamiento está yendo bien y estoy trabajando duro como siempre. Estoy muy emocionado por volver al ring después de una inactividad tan larga, especialmente porque será en mi ciudad. Pienso que Palmetta hará lo mejor que pueda, pero no será suficiente. Estoy decidido a ganar y hacer saber que mi nombre debería figurar como uno de los top 5 peso wélter de esta era”.
Más modesto, pero incluso más decidido, se mostró el olímpico argentino Alberto Palmetta, que quiere hacer que sus compatriotas se sientan satisfechos con su actuación:
“Esta es una gran oportunidad para mí y estoy entrenando duro en Las Vegas para aprovechar al máximo todo lo que está delante de mí. He representado a mi país en el ring durante años, incluso en los Juegos Olímpicos, y voy a ir allí el 25 de febrero para hacer que todo el mundo en Argentina se sienta orgulloso. Sé que voy a ir a la ciudad de James, pero esto sólo va a motivarme aún más para que se levante mi mano”.
Respecto al peso superligero dominicano Elvis Rodríguez, aunque no tuvo malas palabras para su adversario, buscará derrotarlo con contundencia para intentar acercarse a una pelea mundialista:
“No puedo esperar para el 25 de febrero. He estado en campamento esperando y preparándome por una oportunidad como esta para mostrar mis habilidades. Adorno es un boxeador muy talentoso, pero está en mi camino. Así de simple. Espero conseguir una oportunidad titular este año y para ello necesito hacer una gran declaración de intenciones en este combate”.
Finalmente, su oponente, el estadounidense Joseph Adorno, pareció demasiado afectado por el hecho de que se considere a Rodríguez tanto el favorito como el lado A en la pelea:
“Estoy entrenando duro y trabajando para hacer de esta mi pelea de transformación. Soy el verdadero lado A, el boxeador mejor clasificado y tengo más experiencia. Mi compañero de escuadra Kenny Sims dominó a Rodríguez y voy a hacer lo mismo. Han escogido la pelea equivocada. Puede quedarse con ser listado como el lado A. Mira mis credenciales. Soy el más hábil, más talentoso y más poderoso”.

On February 25, at The Armory in Minneapolis, United States, Showtime will televise a bill in which Puerto Rican Subriel Matías hopes to reach his goal of conquering the IBF world super lightweight belt after a long preparation:
“I’m very grateful that there is now a date for this fight so that I can finally realize my dream and become world champion. I’ve been away from my family for ten months in Mexico, just preparing and getting ready until the time came to step into the ring. Now that it’s in my sight, there’s nothing that is going to stand in my way.”
His opponent, the Argentinian Jeremías Ponce, also assures that he will not be stopped by any obstacles to reach his objective, which he approaches with a lot of motivation:
«I promise that I’m coming into this fight prepared to do whatever it takes to reach my dream and become a world champion. In my mind, this is my fight, and that title is already mine. Anyone who’s standing in my way is going to see why I’m undefeated and why I’ve earned this position that I’m in.»
Despite he was demolished by Butaev in his last bout, American Jamal James did not lack overconfidence regarding his return home, an he even considers himself one of the best in the 147lb division in this generation:
«Training is going well and I’m working hard as usual. I’m very excited to be getting back in the ring after such a long layoff, especially since it’ll be in my hometown. I think Palmetta will do his best, but it won’t be enough. I am determined to win and to let it be known that my name should be listed as one of the top five welterweights of this era.”
Much more humble, but even more determined, is the Argentinian Olympian Alberto Palmetta, who wants to make his compatriots feel satisfied with his performance:
«This is a great opportunity for me and I’m training hard in Las Vegas to take full advantage of everything that’s in front of me. I’ve represented my country in the ring for years, including in the Olympics, and I’m going in there on February 25 to make everyone in Argentina proud. I know I’m going into James’ hometown, but that’s just going to motivate me even harder to have my hand raised.»
Regarding the Dominican super lightweight Elvis Rodríguez, although he did not have bad words for his opponent, he will seek to defeat him very convincingly to try to get closer to a world title fight:
«I can’t wait for February 25th. I’ve been in camp waiting and preparing for an opportunity like this to display my skills. Adorno is a very talented fighter, but he’s in my way. Simple as that. I hope to get a title shot this year and in order to do that, I need to make a big statement in this fight.»
Finally, his opponent, American Joseph Adorno, seemed too upset by the fact that Rodríguez is considered both the favorite and the A side in the fight:
«I’m training hard and putting in the work to make this my crossover fight. I’m the real A-side, the higher-ranked fighter and have more experience. My stablemate Kenny Sims dominated Rodriguez and I’m going to do the same. They took the wrong fight. He can have the A-side billing. Look at my credentials. I am the more skilled, more talented and more powerful fighter.»
