Gennadiy Golovkin renuncia a su cinturón mundial IBF del peso medio

Desde que en noviembre de 2021 el brasileño Esquiva Falcão ganó una eliminatoria final IBF del peso medio ante Patrice Volny, éste ha estado esperando el acceso al mundial contra el kazajo Gennadiy Golovkin. Finalmente, en octubre de 2022, la Federación ordenó el mundial Golovkin-Falcão, pero el límite de tiempo que ambos equipos tenían para alcanzar un acuerdo se había superado sin que se tuviesen noticias sobre qué estaba sucediendo con el choque, más allá de los rumores que apuntaban a que el combate no se iba a realizar.
Esta incertidumbre ha terminado ya, dado que Jake Donovan informó de que Golovkin ha decidido renunciar a su cinturón mundial IBF del peso medio.
Por lo tanto, ahora Falcão tendrá que iniciar negociaciones con el australiano Michael Zerafa para un pelea por el cinturón mundial sin dueño. Hay que recordar que Zerafa venció una eliminatoria semifinal el pasado abril ante Issac Hardman, lo que le situó inmediatamente por detrás del aspirante obligatorio. En caso de que Falcão lograse coronarse campeón mundial, esto facilitaría mucho las cosas para que Top Rank pudiese pactar una unificación entre él y su compañero de escuadra Janibek Alimkhanuly.
En cuanto a Golovkin, éste todavía mantiene en su poder el título WBA del peso medio, lo que en teoría debería llevarle a una pelea mundialista obligatoria ante Erislandy Lara. Sin embargo, por el momento no hay garantía alguna de que vaya a afrontar este duelo, pareciendo que “GGG” ya sólo busca una última gran bolsa antes de retirarse.

Since Brazilian Esquiva Falcão won an IBF middleweight final eliminator against Patrice Volny in November 2021, he has been waiting to access to the world championship fight against Kazakh Gennadiy Golovkin. Finally, in October 2022, the IBF ordered the Golovkin-Falcão bout, but the time limit that both teams had to reach an agreement has already been exceeded without any news about what was happening with the clash, beyond the rumors that it was not going to take place.
This uncertainty is now over, as Jake Donovan first reported that Golovkin has decided to relinquish his IBF world middleweight belt.
Therefore, now Falcão will have to start negotiations with the Australian Michael Zerafa for a fight for the world belt without an owner.
