En un enfrentamiento realmente igualado y en el que cualquiera de los dos pudo haber salido con el brazo en alto, los jueces decidieron que el boxeador que peleaba en su ciudad, Claudio Grande 10(3KO)-2, debía hacerse con el triunfo por decisión unánime sobre Jonathan Sannino 15(3KO)-4(1)-1. Las puntuaciones fueron de 96-94 y excesivos 97-94 y 97-93.
Ante su público, Grande avanzó intentando imponer sus golpes de poder, pero un Sannino móvil y astuto con su jab, su directo diestro y su gancho zurdo abajo fue efectivo en el primer asalto. Esto llevó a Grande a intensificar más su agresividad y, aunque su oponente siguió llegándole con algunas buenas manos, logró impactar combinaciones de curvos que hicieron a los asistentes exclamarse y que pudieron contribuir a decidir a los jueces en momentos decisivos. Y es que en general los rounds fueron igualados y los éxitos de uno y otro a menudo se sucedieron, habitualmente en intercambios consecutivos.
Si no se producía un punto de inflexión, parecía que el veredicto de los jueces podría ser muy cerrado. Es verdad que en principio Sannino tenía recursos técnicos suficientes como para no dejarse llevar a una pelea tan física y con tantos cruces de golpes, pero se estaba manejando muy bien contra su fuerte adversario, superándolo en varios rounds por cadencia e insistencia. Asimismo, cuando Grande parecía estremecerlo, Sannino replicaba con muchísima garra para intentar compensar el éxito de su contrincante.
En un cierto punto, finalmente dio la sensación de que la precisión y la continuidad de Sannino iban a ser determinantes, pero posteriormente perdió frescura y la fortaleza de Grande entonces marcó la diferencia a su favor en los intensos cruces de golpes. Por ello, tras los diez asaltos lo único que estaba claro es que muy poco había separado a ambos contendientes y que había un buen puñado de rounds muy difíciles de puntuar que cualquiera de los dos habría podido anotarse por matices.
El hecho es que ahora Grande es campeón de Italia, si bien la división en dicho país está muy despoblada y tiene muy pocos rivales potenciales, siendo en estos momentos Cristian Zara y el propio Sannino sus únicas opciones viables más allá de un pequeño grupo de novatos.

In a truly even matchup and in which either of the two could have come out with his hand raised, the judges decided that the boxer who was fighting in his city, Claudio Grande 10(3KO)-2, should win by unanimous decision over Jonathan Sannino 15(3KO)-4(1)-1. The scores were 96-94 and too wide cards of 97-94 and 97-93.
In front of his crowd, Grande moved forward trying to impose his power shots, but a mobile Sannino used astutely his jab, his straight right hand and his left hook down in the first round. This prompted Grande to increase his aggressiveness even more and, while his opponent kept connecting some good hands, he managed to land hook combinations that made his fans shout and could have helped him to impress the judges at key moments. However, in general the rounds were even and the successes of both boxers often followed one another, usually in consecutive exchanges.
If there was no turning point, it seemed that the verdict of the judges could be very close. It is true that in principle Sannino had enough technical resources to not let himself be dragged to such a physical fight and with so many exchanges, but he was handling himself very well against his strong opponent, outworking him in several rounds due to punch output and insistence. Also, when Grande seemed to shake him, Sannino answered with a lot of grit to try to compensate for the success of his opponent.
At a certain point, it finally seemed that Sannino’s precision and continuity were going to be decisive, but later he lost freshness and Grande’s physicality was decisive in the intense exchanges. For this reason, after ten rounds, the only thing that was clear is that very little had separated the two contenders and that there were rounds very difficult to score that either of them could have won by small details.
In any case, the fact is that Grande is now the Italian champion, although the division in that country is not deep at all and he has very few potential opponents, with Cristian Zara and Sannino himself currently being his only viable options beyond a small group of rookies.
