Además de dos campeonatos mundiales masculinos y uno femenino, en las próximas jornadas se producirán varios eventos emitidos por YouTube o Facebook y se desarrollarán bastantes combates con algún tipo de interés. Así que, si bien todavía faltan unas semanas para que lleguemos al momento más intenso de la primera mitad de la temporada, por ahora tendremos bastante con lo que entretenernos.
Jueves 23 de febrero
Empezamos en el Fantasy Springs Casino de Indio, Estados Unidos, donde DAZN emitirá una velada de Golden Boy Promotions en la que el peso supermosca estadounidense John “Scrappy” Ramírez 10(8KO)-0 buscará conservar su puesto de 2º WBA y prepararse para una eliminatoria mundial enfrentándose al mexicano Luis “Callado” Villa 15(2KO)-3(2)-2. Este es un boxeador con muchísima menos pegada y que perdió en un round contra el retador mundial Samuel Carmona, por lo que, pese a su reciente triunfo contra pronóstico sobre Carlos Buitrago, partirá muy por detrás en las apuestas.
En el respaldo, el peso gallo estadounidense Manuel “El Meny” Flores 14(11KO)-0 buscará su séptimo triunfo antes del límite consecutivo ante el nicaragüense Marvin Solano 24(8KO)-9(3), que viene en un récord parcial de 1-5.
Por otro lado, en el Sony Hall de Nueva York, Estados Unidos, Boxing Insider Promotions ofrecerá por su canal de YouTube un evento en el que el peso semipesado francés Frederic Julan 12(10KO)-2 tratará de regresar a la senda del triunfo (tras dos derrotas seguidas) peleando contra el fogueado estadounidense Decarlo “3mendo” Pérez 19(6KO)-7(3)-1.
Además, en este mismo cartel el olímpico mongol Tsendbaatar Erdenebat 4(2KO)-0 realizará su debut estadounidense combatiendo en el peso pluma contra el nicaragüense Giovanni Gutiérrez 11(6KO)-3(2)-1 y la excampeona mundial estadounidense Heather “The Heat” Hardy 23(4KO)-2 buscará su segundo triunfo en cuatro meses enfrentándose a la brasileña Taynna Cardoso 5(1KO)-1, que viene de perder por decisión ante la plata olímpica Beatriz Ferreira
Viernes 24 de febrero
Pasando al viernes, en el York Hall de Londres, Reino Unido, se producirá una nueva velada de Let’s GO Management emitida por YouTube (Boxing Social). En esta ocasión el combate estelar será un campeonato británico por el vacante cinturón del peso superpluma entre los coaspirantes Alex Dilmaghani 20(7KO)-2(1)-1 y Liam Dillon 12(3KO)-0-1. El exranqueado mundial Dilmaghani por primera vez en su carrera afrontará una pelea titular de ámbito nacional, pugna en la cual intentará recobrar impulso enfrentándose a un excampeón inglés invicto y motivado pero que en tres de sus últimos cuatro combates ha tenido resultados muy ajustados.
En el semifondo, el invicto prospecto del peso gallo Jordan Purkiss 5(1KO)-0 buscará continuar con su rápido avance peleando por el vacante cinturón de Inglaterra contra un boxeador competente y más experimentado como Ramez “The Mathemagician” Mahmood 13(2KO)-2.
En este fin de semana se desarrollarán dos veladas organizadas por AGON Sports desde el AGON Sportpark de Charlottenburg, Alemania. En la del viernes, el peso medio Bjoern Schicke 20(10KO)-1(1)-1 intentará llevar a cinco su racha de triunfos y prepararse para un combate decisivo enfrentándose al invicto chileno Julio Álamos 15(8KO)-0, que ha tenido buen rendimiento combatiendo en su país pero que afrontará con este primer duelo en el extranjero un drástico aumento de dificultad. Por otro lado, el excampeón de Italia del peso medio Etinosa Oliha 16(7KO)-0 tratará de entrar en el top 15 WBO peleando por un título menor ante el mexicano Rafael Amarillas 16(9KO)-4(3)-1.
En la jornada del viernes también se producirán estos otros choques:
-En el Hialeah Park Racing & Casino de Hialeah, Estados Unidos, emitido por PPV, el excampeón mundial cubano Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux 20(13KO)-3(1) pondrá fin a un año de inactividad combatiendo en el peso gallo contra el colombiano Jesús Martínez 33(16KO)-17(10)-1 y el peso supergallo Ariel Pérez de la Torre 9(7KO)-1 se enfrentará al veterano exretador mundial venezolano Yonfrez Parejo 24(12KO)-5(2)-1.
-En el Palatorrino de Roma, Italia, emitido por Rai Sport, la campeona de Europa del peso pluma Anna Lisa Brozzi 4(2KO)-2 afrontará su primera defensa ante la joven española Sheila Martínez 4(1KO)-3, que viene de un triunfo contra pronóstico en Reino Unido.
-En el Pabellón de Esgrima del Centro Olímpico de Santo Domingo, República Dominicana, emitido por YouTube, el prospecto superwélter Ángel Cruz Johnson 9(8KO)-0 intentará lograr un nuevo knockout ante un Rafael María de Dios 10(9KO)-1(1) que sólo ha sido vencido por Jeison Rosario.
Sábado 25 de febrero
En el que se prevé un excelente enfrentamiento, el puertorriqueño Subriel Matías y el argentino Jeremías Ponce combatirán por el vacante cinturón mundial IBF del peso superligero. En la cartelera principal de este evento de PBC, Jamal James y Alberto Palmetta se verán las caras en un interesante choque del peso wélter y el peso superligero Elvis Rodríguez se medirá a Joseph Adorno. En cuanto al segundo evento desde el AGON Sportpark de Charlottenburg, Alemania, este contará con un campeonato de la Unión Europea del peso pesado para elegir al sucesor de Tony Yoka. En el duelo por el cinto vacante pugnarán el invicto local Granit Shala 13(3KO)-0 y un boxeador peligroso como el belga-congoleño Jack Mulowayi 13(9KO)-3(1)-1, que tiene una enorme ventaja en experiencia de calidad, habiendo sufrido su única derrota reciente ante ni más ni menos que el muy prometedor Bakhodir Jalolov y habiendo truncado anteriormente en Rusia el récord invicto de Apti Davtaev.
En la velada también participará el 6º IBF del peso superwélter Haro Matevosyan 16(9KO)-0, que intentará mantener su posición (o incluso escalar algún puesto) combatiendo por un cinto menor ante el mexicano Alejandro “Pájaro” Dávila 23(9KO)-4(2)-2.
Por otro lado, el sábado se producirá un campeonato mundial femenino en el Graakjaer Arena de Holstebro, Dinamarca. En él la campeona mundial en dos divisiones, y actual titular WBO del peso gallo, Dina Thorslund 18(7KO)-0, que ha perdido muy pocos rounds en su carrera, tratará de mantenerse activa antes de una posible pugna de unificación combatiendo contra la exmonarca mundial argentina del peso mosca Débora Anahí López 20(1KO)-1-1. Más allá de que viene de una derrota por decisión técnica, parece difícil que López vaya a lograr dar la sorpresa ascendiendo dos divisiones y peleando como visitante ante una boxeadora con mucho más bagaje de nivel alto y en gran racha.
Otro de los encuentros destacados de la jornada será una eliminatoria IBF del peso minimosca emitida por Facebook desde Calape Cultural Center de Calape, Filipinas. Dado que en este enfrentamiento pugnarán dos invictos y sólidos boxeadores filipinos que han ofrecido buenas actuaciones como Regie Suganob 12(4KO)-0 y Mark Vicelles 17(10KO)-0-1, parece que este debería ser un choque disputado y quizás intenso del que tendría que salir un sólido retador para el campeón Sivenathi Nontshinga.
Antes de pasar al domingo, quedan estos otros combates por mencionar:
-En el ATC Hall de Osaka, Japón, el excampeón mundial Tomoki Kameda 39(21KO)-3 disputará un rodaje en el peso supergallo, a la espera del mundial contra Murodjon Akhmadaliev, ante el encajador mexicano Luis Castillo 30(20KO)-4.
-En Mazatlán, México, emitido a través de Facebook, el peso supergallo Jesús Arechiga 18(13KO)-0 intentará sumar a su récord un nombre conocido peleando contra el veterano exaspirante mundial David Carmona 22(9KO)-11(4)-5.
-En el Polideportivo Municipal de Monte Hermoso, Argentina, televisado por TyC Sports, el imbatido peso superligero Rubén Néstor Neri 11(8KO)-0 afrontará su segundo combate pactado a diez rounds ante Alexis Nahuel Torres 9(5KO)-3(2)-1, que sólo ha sido vencido por el bronce olímpico Lázaro Álvarez y por Eduardo Estela, próximo rival de Ángel Fierro.
-En el Palais des Sports de Bourgoin Jallieu, Francia, el campeón de Francia del peso wélter Yanis Mehah 12(3KO)-0 afrontará su primera defensa ante Abibe Bennama 13(1KO)-2(1).
-En San Pedro Cholula, México, el fogueado peso ligero mexicano Juan Antonio Rodríguez 32(28KO)-9(2) se medirá a su joven compatriota Cristian Sonora 19(12KO)-6(4), que en los últimos años sólo ha sido derrotado por el imbatido Isaac Lucero.
Domingo 26 de febrero
Finalmente, la actividad relevante terminará con el campeonato mundial WBC del peso crucero entre el monarca Ilunga Makabu 29(25KO)-2(2) y el exmonarca supermedio Badou Jack 27(16KO)-3(1)-3 que se desarrollará en el Diriyah Arena de Diriyah, Arabia Saudí, como respaldo de un “combate” de “celebridades”.
En los últimos tres años y medio Makabu ha tenido dificultades en todos sus combates, y además llega a este choque tras más de un año de inactividad. Asimismo, en el nivel alto no está logrando knockouts y se enfrenta a un Jack fuerte, que ha recibido este mundial sin merecerlo y que fue espantosamente favorecido en su última visita a territorio saudí (logró una controvertida victoria en un combate en el que se le dieron más de tres minutos de tiempo en su mejor round). Por ello, no resultaría sorprendente si Jack se hiciese con una victoria por decisión controvertida si logra ser competitivo ante este rival potente pero con grandes brechas.

In addition to two men’s and one women’s world championships, in the coming days there will be several events broadcast on YouTube or Facebook and many fights with some kind of interest. So while we will have to wait a few weeks before the most intense moment of the first half of the season, for now we’ll have plenty to be entertained.
Thursday, February 23
We begin at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, United States, where DAZN will air a Golden Boy Promotions evening in which American super flyweight John “Scrappy” Ramírez 10(8KO)-0 will look to retain his No. 2 WBA spot, and prepare for a world eliminator, facing the Mexican Luis «Callado» Villa 15(2KO)-3(2)-2. This is a boxer with much less punch and who lost in one round against the world challenger Samuel Carmona, so despite his recent upset victory over Carlos Buitrago, he is very far from the favorite in the betting odds.
In the support, American bantamweight Manuel “El Meny” Flores 14(11KO)-0 will look for his seventh consecutive stoppage win battling Nicaraguan Marvin Solano 24(8KO)-9(3), who has a recent record of 1-5.
On the other hand, at the Sony Hall in New York, United States, Boxing Insider Promotions will offer an event on its YouTube channel in which the French light heavyweight Frederic Julan 12(10KO)-2 will try to return to winning ways (after two straight losses) fighting against the seasoned American Decarlo “3mendo” Pérez 19(6KO)-7(3)-1.
In addition, in this same bill the Mongolian Olympian Tsendbaatar Erdenebat 4(2KO)-0 will make his American debut fighting at featherweight against the Nicaraguan Giovanni Gutiérrez 11(6KO)-3(2)-1 and American former world champion Heather “The Heat” Hardy 23(4KO)-2 will look for her second win in four months facing the Brazilian Taynna Cardoso 5(1KO)-1, who is coming from losing a decision to Olympic silver medalist Beatriz Ferreira

Moving on to Friday, the York Hall in London, UK, will host a new Let’s GO Management evening broadcast on YouTube (Boxing Social). This time the main event will be a British championship for the vacant super featherweight belt between Alex Dilmaghani 20(7KO)-2(1)-1 and Liam Dillon 12(3KO)-0-1. The former world ranked boxer Dilmaghani for the first time in his career will face a title fight at the national level, a bout in which he will try to regain momentum against an undefeated and motivated former English champion but who in three of his last four fights has had very close results.
In the co-main event, undefeated bantamweight prospect Jordan Purkiss 5(1KO)-0 will seek to continue his rapid advance in professional boxing by fighting for the vacant English belt against a competent and more experienced boxer in Ramez “The Mathemagician” Mahmood 13(2KO )-2.
Two evenings organized by AGON Sports will take place this weekend from the AGON Sportpark in Charlottenburg, Germany. In Friday’s card, middleweight Bjoern Schicke 20(10KO)-1(1)-1 will try to take his winning streak to five and prepare for a decisive bout facing undefeated Chilean Julio Álamos 15(8KO)-0, who has had good performances fighting in his country but who will face a big step up in this first fight abroad. On the support, former Italian middleweight champion Etinosa Oliha 16(7KO)-0 will try to enter the WBO top 15 fighting for a minor title against the Mexican Rafael Amarillas 16(9KO)-4(3)-1.

-At the Palatorrino in Rome, Italy, broadcast by Rai Sport, the European featherweight champion Anna Lisa Brozzi 4(2KO)-2 will face her first defense against the young Spaniard Sheila Martínez 4(1KO)-3, who comes from an upset win in the UK.

Saturday, February 25
In a fight with the potential to be very exciting, Puerto Rican Subriel Matías and Argentinian Jeremías Ponce will fight for the vacant IBF super lightweight belt. On the main card of this PBC event, Jamal James and Alberto Palmetta will square off in an interesting welterweight clash and super lightweight Elvis Rodriguez will face Joseph Adorno. As for the second event from the AGON Sportpark in Charlottenburg, Germany, this will feature a European Union heavyweight championship to choose Tony Yoka’s successor. In the duel for the vacant belt will battle the undefeated local Granit Shala 13(3KO)-0 and a dangerous boxer like the Belgian-Congolese Jack Mulowayi 13(9KO)-3(1)-1, who has a huge advantage in quality experience, having suffered his only recent loss to the very promising Bakhodir Jalolov after an upset win over unbeaten Apti Davtaev in Russia.
The IBF number 6 super welterweight Haro Matevosyan 16(9KO)-0 will also participate in the evening, as he will try to maintain his position (or even climb a bit) fighting for a minor belt against the Mexican Alejandro «Pájaro» Dávila 23(9KO)- 4(2)-2.
On the other hand, a women’s world championship will take place on Saturday at the Graakjaer Arena in Holstebro, Denmark. In it, the two-division world champion, and current WBO bantamweight titleholder, Dina Thorslund 18(7KO)-0, who has lost very few rounds in her career, will try to stay busy before a possible unification fight facing Argentinian former world flyweight monarch Débora Anahí López 20(1KO)-1-1. Beyond the fact that she is coming off a loss by technical decision, it seems difficult for López to achieve the upset moving up two divisions and fighting as a visitor against a boxer with much more high-level experience and on a great streak.
Another of the day’s highlighted bouts will be an IBF light flyweight eliminator broadcast on Facebook from the Calape Cultural Center in Calape, Philippines. Given this matchup will be between two undefeated and solid Filipino boxers who have put in good performances like Regie Suganob 12(4KO)-0 and Mark Vicelles 17(10KO)-0-1, it seems that this should be a contested and perhaps intense clash of which will emerge a solid mandatory challenger for champion Sivenathi Nontshinga.
Before moving on to Sunday, these other fights can also be mentioned:

Sunday, February 26
Finally, the relevant activity will end with a WBC world cruiserweight championship between the beltholder Ilunga Makabu 29(25KO)-2(2) and the former super middleweight champion Badou Jack 27(16KO)-3(1)-3. This bout will take place at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, as a support of a “fight” between “celebrities”.
In the last three and a half years Makabu has had difficulties in all of his fights, and he will step into the ring after more than a year of inactivity. Also, Makabu, who at the high level is not achieving knockouts, will face a strong boxer like Jack, who has received this world title opportunity without deserving it and who was terribly favored in his last visit to Saudi territory (he achieved a controversial victory in a fight in which he was given more than three minutes of time in his best round). So it wouldn’t be surprising if Jack obtains a controversial decision win if he manages to stay competitive against this powerful but flawed opponent.
