El ruso Murat Gassiev se anotó su mayor victoria hasta la fecha en la división del peso pesado deshaciéndose del imbatido estadounidense Mike Balogun en solo dos asaltos. Pasando a la velada mexicana de Jab Promociones, Víctor “Scarface” Reyes no pudo noquear al veterano e inactivo José “Tigre” Cayetano en un duelo del peso pluma que fue el estelar de la noche. También el viernes, el exmonarca mundial del peso superpluma Roger Gutiérrez retornó a la senda del triunfo, tras su derrota ante Héctor Luis García, batiendo en el segundo round al dominicano Henry Delgado. Crónica del combate siguiendo el enlace.
En la jornada se produjeron estos otros resultados:
-El olímpico australiano Alex Winwood 2(2KO)-0 fue demasiado para el indonesio Tibo Monabesa 21(8KO)-2(2)-2, que fue batido por KO en el cuarto asalto. Sin duda, Winwood es un púgil al que seguir de cerca en la división del peso minimosca.
-El campeón de Francia del peso semipesado Marlon Brun 15(3KO)-1 se desquitó de su derrota ante Cyrille Joly 12(6KO)-14(6)-2 venciendo la revancha por amplia decisión unánime (100-90, 99-91, 98-92).
-El prospecto británico del peso superwélter Jack McGann 8(5KO)-0-1 superó su test ante el húngaro Laszlo Toth 31(19KO)-7(2)-2, convirtiéndose en el segundo en vencer a este púgil antes del límite con un abandono en el quinto asalto.
Sábado 4 de marzo
Una vez más, la presión del estadounidense Brandon Figueroa fue demasiado para un oponente, en esta ocasión el excampeón mundial Mark Magsayo, que terminó agotado y perdiendo por decisión unánime. Así, Figueroa se convirtió en titular interino WBC del peso pluma y en próximo retador obligatorio de Rey Vargas. Crónica del combate siguiendo el enlace.
En la pugna coestelar del evento de PBC, el retorno del excampeón mundial Jarrett Hurd terminó con otro varapalo más a sus aspiraciones, puesto que fue batido por KOT en el décimo asalto por el joven mexicano José Armando Reséndiz. Crónica del combate siguiendo el enlace.
La cartelera principal también contó con una pelea de invictos peso medio en la que Elijah Lorenzo García derrotó en el cuarto asalto a Amilcar Vidal, entrando así en una nueva fase en su carrera. Crónica del combate siguiendo el enlace.
En el respaldo preliminar, Terrell Gausha noqueó en el noveno asalto a Brandyn Lynch, Travon Marshall batió en el tercer round a Justin DeLoach y Samuel Teah venció de forma unánime al invicto Enriko Gogokhia. Vídeo oficial de los combates siguiendo el link.
Respecto a las dos eliminatorias mundiales que tuvieron lugar en Reino Unido, en la del peso superligero Lewis Ritson 23(13KO)-3(2) tuvo su enésima mala actuación y fue controlado y noqueado por Ohara Davies 25(18KO)-2(1), que se situó así por detrás de Ismael Barroso para acceder a un mundial WBA del peso superligero contra el ganador del Puello-Romero. En cuanto a la eliminatoria del peso pluma, Otabek Kholmatov 11(10KO)-0 impuso su pegada sobre el poco contundente Thomas Patrick Ward 33(5KO)-1(1)-1 y lo derribó tres veces antes del KOT en el quinto asalto, por lo que hizo una declaración de intenciones respecto a sus objetivos en la parte alta de la división y se convirtió en aspirante obligatorio de Mauricio Lara.
Pasando a la velada de Matchroom Boxing, el peso ligero mexicano Ángel “Tashiro” Fierro 21(17KO)-1-2 tumbó tres veces al uruguayo Eduardo Estela 14(9KO)-2(2) y se hizo con un triunfo por knockout en el séptimo asalto, por lo que se mantuvo en la parte alta del ranking WBO (en el que es 5º, virtualmente 3º). Con todo, es evidente que en una futura prueba de fuego ante un boxeador de élite en buen estado de forma sus brechas técnicas y tácticas podrían pasarle factura de forma determinante.
En cuanto al respaldo, los favoritos vencieron y quedaron a la espera de pasos adelante, entre ellos el peso superpluma Eduardo Núñez 24(24KO)-1, que mantuvo su 100% de knockouts con una victoria en el segundo round sobre el sustituto Jesús Martín Ceyca 17(8KO)-1(1), y el olímpico Misael Rodríguez 13(7KO)-0, que tuvo que trabajar duro para lograr un triunfo unánime (78-76, 77-76, 77-76) ajustado sobre Aarón Rocha 10(6KO)-2-1.
Finalmente en cuanto a las carteleras destacadas, el español Alejandro Moya 17(10KO)-1 perdió su récord invicto en una derrota dividida (116-115, 113-115 y 111-117) contra pronóstico ante el visitante francés Walid Ouizza 17(8KO)-2. De ese modo, Ouizza se convirtió en campeón de la Unión Europea del peso superligero y se acercó de manera decisiva a un campeonato de Europa.
En el respaldo, el peso superpluma Moussa Gholam 20(12KO)-1 venció amplísimamente (100-91, 99-91, 99-91) al mexicano Abraham Montoya 20(14KO)-5-1 y el invicto peso superpluma Cristian Eusse 7(5KO)-0 superó por decisión unánime su prueba ante el argentino Reuquén Arce 15(7KO)-9(3)-2.
El sábado se produjeron también estos otros choques:
–Agit Kabayel 23(15KO)-0 volvió a proclamarse campeón de Europa del peso pesado derrotando a la víctima propiciatoria Agron Smakici 19(17KO)-2(2), aunque no hay garantías de que pueda evitar volver a estancarse.
-La revancha entre los peso gallo japoneses Kai Chiba 15(9KO)-4(2) y Keita Kurihara 17(15KO)-7(4)-1 concluyó con el segundo de ambos desquitándose de la anterior derrota con un KOT en el segundo asalto que le dio el cinturón OPBF y le devolverá a los rankings mundiales.
-El peso supergallo Ángel Hafit “Lobo” Talavera 10(1KO)-1(1) vio cortados sus planes para el futuro inmediato a manos de Erik “Terrible” Robles 13(9KO)-1(1), que sorprendentemente sólo necesitó un asalto para noquearlo.
-La jovencísima peso mosca canadiense Alexas Kubicki 6(0KO)-0 estuvo a la altura de las circunstancias ante la mexicana María Salinas 25(7KO)-9(1)-6 y la venció por decisión unánime (triple 97-93) para acercarse ya notablemente a grandes peleas en la división.
-La extitular mundial del peso pluma Sarah Mahfoud 12(3KO)-1 retornó a la senda del triunfo venciendo por amplísima decisión unánime (triple 100-90) a la alemana Lara Ochmann 9(4KO)-2.
Domingo 5 de marzo
Para concluir, en la velada organizada por Promociones Zanfer el bronce mundial amateur Elnur Abduraimov 10(9KO)-1(1) sufrió su primera derrota profesional en el séptimo asalto de un duelo ante el mexicano Ángel Daniel “El Alemán” García 15(12KO)-0, que ahora seguramente podría verse catapultado a una gran oportunidad. De todos modos, es necesario señalar que la derrota de Abduraimov fue causada en última instancia por una lesión en la mano que le impidió seguir.
Respecto al choque del peso wélter entre Rubén Eduardo “Pollito” Aguilar 20(17KO)-0-1 y Ricardo “Magic Man” Salas 16(11KO)-2-1, ninguno de los dos logró la victoria, puesto que el resultado final fue un empate por decisión mayoritaria.

Russian Murat Gassiev scored his biggest win to date in the heavyweight division by beating the undefeated American Mike Balogun in the second round. Now Gassiev will access the WBA top 15. In the undercard, Cuban Luis Miguel Bayona beat Muzaffar Rasulov. Read more following the link.

Moving on to the Jab Promociones card, Victor “Scarface” Reyes was unable to knock out inactive veteran Jose “Tigre” Cayetano in a featherweight bout. In the co-main event, Vicente Portillo scored a wide unanimous decision victory over the undefeated Ángel Varela. Read more following the link.

Once again, the pressure from American Brandon Figueroa was too much for his opponent, this time former world champion Mark Magsayo, who ended up exhausted and losing by unanimous decision. Thus, Figueroa became the WBC interim featherweight titleholder and the next mandatory challenger for Rey Vargas. Read more following the link.
In the co-main event of the PBC event, the return of former world champion Jarrett Hurd ended with another setback to his aspirations, since he was beaten by tenth-round TKO at the hands of the young Mexican José Armando Reséndiz. Read more following the link.
The main card also featured a clash of undefeated middleweight in which Elijah Lorenzo Garcia beat Amilcar Vidal in the fourth round, thus entering a new phase in his career. Read more following the link.
In the prelim fights, Terrell Gausha knocked out Brandyn Lynch in the ninth round, Travon Marshall defeated Justin DeLoach in the third round and Samuel Teah beat the undefeated Enriko Gogokhia by unanimous decision. Link to the official video of these fights.
Regarding the two world eliminators that took place in the United Kingdom, in the one at super lightweight Lewis Ritson 23(13KO)-3(2) had his umpteenth bad performance and was dominated and knocked out by Ohara Davies 25(18KO)-2(1), who thus placed himself behind Ismael Barroso in the queue to access the WBA super lightweight championship against the winner of the Puello-Romero fight. As for the featherweight eliminator, Otabek Kholmatov 11(10KO)-0 imposed his punch over the less forceful Thomas Patrick Ward 33(5KO)-1(1)-1 and knocked him down three times before a fifth-round TKO. In that way, Kholmatov made a statement regarding his objectives at the top of the division and became Mauricio Lara’s mandatory challenger.
Moving on to the Matchroom Boxing evening, Mexican lightweight Ángel “Tashiro” Fierro 21(17KO)-1-2 knocked down Uruguayan Eduardo Estela 14(9KO)-2(2) three times to score a seventh-round knockout win, which will serve him to remain close to the summit of the WBO ranking (in which he is number 5, virtually number 3). However, it is evident that in a future big fight against an elite boxer in good shape, his technical and tactical flaws could have decisive consequences.
As for the support, the favorites won and now will probably face steps up: super featherweight Eduardo Núñez 24(24KO)-1 maintained his 100% knockout ratio with a second round win over substitute Jesús Martín Ceyca 17(8KO)-1(1), and Olympian Misael Rodríguez 13(7KO)-0 had to work hard to achieve a unanimous decision victory (78-76, 77-76, 77-76) over Aarón Rocha 10(6KO)-2-1.

-Super bantamweight Ángel Hafit “Lobo” Talavera 10(1KO)-1(1) saw his plans for the immediate future cut short at the hands of Erik “Terrible” Robles 13(9KO)-1(1), who surprisingly only needed a round to knock him out.
-The very young Canadian flyweight Alexas Kubicki 6(0KO)-0 rose to the occasion against the Mexican María Salinas 25(7KO)-9(1)-6 and defeated her by unanimous decision (triple 97-93), getting remarkably close to big fights in the division.
-Former world featherweight titleholder Sarah Mahfoud 12(3KO)-1 returned to the path of victory by defeating German Lara Ochmann 9(4KO)-2 by wide unanimous decision (triple 100-90).

To finish the results article, in the evening organized by Promociones Zanfer, world bronze medalist Elnur Abduraimov 10(9KO)-1(1) suffered his first professional defeat in the seventh round of a bout against Mexican Ángel Daniel “El Alemán” García 15(12KO )-0, who now surely could receive an important opportunity. However, it is necessary to point out that Abduraimov’s defeat was ultimately caused by a hand injury that prevented him from continuing.
Regarding the welterweight clash between Rubén Eduardo «Pollito» Aguilar 20(17KO)-0-1 and Ricardo «Magic Man» Salas 16(11KO)-2-1, neither of them achieved victory, since the final result of the fight was a majority decision draw.
