Óscar Álvarez y Mario Valenzuela sumaron triunfos en el respaldo del Torres-Cabrera

El respaldo del evento de ProBox TV contó con dos enfrentamientos entre peso superpluma mexicanos, siendo uno de ellos ganado por el altísimo Óscar Álvarez 9(7KO)-0 ante un capaz Diego López 3(2KO)-2-1. El resultado fue una decisión mayoritaria con cartulinas de 78-74 y más acertados 77-75 y 77-77.
Desde el centro del ring, y desde la distancia larga y media, Álvarez intentó imponer sus directos y contragolpear los ataques rivales con sus cruzados de mano adelantada, pero en el segundo round López estuvo astuto con su selección de golpes y llegó con alguna clara mano que el invicto no defendió excesivamente bien a causa de su exceso de confianza. Con todo, en el tercer asalto Álvarez dejó tocado a su oponente con un uppercut zurdo sucedido por cruzados de ambas manos, aunque sin llegar a anotarse un knockdown.
Álvarez cambió de guardia diestra a zurda varias veces, pero esto no le dio resultados evidentes, ya que con ambas guardias López encontró la forma de contragolpearle con jabs, cortos rectos y curvos de mano adelantada. De todos modos, el invicto poco a poco fue ajustando su timing y su puntería y fue llegando cada vez de forma más regular con sus directos y ganchos de mano adelantada. Todo ello a la vez que estuvo más acertado en sus acciones defensivas. Así, aunque López siguió siendo competitivo, Álvarez terminó mereciendo ajustadamente la victoria.
Aunque tiene una altura fuera de lo común para un peso superpluma y además posee habilidad, Álvarez necesita evitar dar por hecho que va a eludir los puños rivales y no llevar tantas veces las manos bajas. Asimismo, tiene que dejar de negar con la cabeza o sonreír cada vez que le golpean, ya que da sensación de vulnerabilidad en el apartado mental de la pelea. De todos modos, es jovencísimo y tiene margen de sobra para ajustar cosas, mientras que otras se solucionarán solas cuando sea más maduro.
Valenzuela derrotó a Fuentes
En el encuentro coestelar, Álex Fuentes 4(1KO)-1 sufrió su primera derrota profesional a manos de Mario Valenzuela 4(2KO)-1-1, que tuvo un boxeo sin iniciativa realmente efectivo. Las puntuaciones fueron de 60-54 y demasiado ajustados 58-57 y 58-56.
Valenzuela salió dispuesto a lograr el triunfo, por lo que se movió con orden, jabeó con firmeza y contragolpeó con uppercuts y curvos para dificultar y castigar las entradas de Fuentes, que padeció una hemorragia nasal en el segundo asalto. Dado que esto requirió una revisión por parte del médico, Fuentes intentó intensificar sus acciones en el siguiente asalto por miedo a que le parasen el encuentro, pero siguió teniendo muchas dificultades con el jab de su oponente, su dinamismo y sus recursos técnicos. Fuentes siguió esforzándose tratando de presionar y llegar con aislados golpes de poder, pero su rostro se fue inflamando y no llegó a conseguir resultados decisivos ante un Valenzuela que se mostró muy eficaz.

The undercard of the ProBox TV event featured two clashes between Mexican super featherweights. One of the bouts was won by the towering Óscar Álvarez 9(7KO)-0 over a capable Diego López 3(2KO)-2-1. The final result was a majority decision with a 78-74 card and more accurate scores of 77-75 and 77-77.
From the center of the ring, and from long and medium distance, Álvarez tried to impose his straight shots and counterpunch his opponent’s attacks with his lead hooks, but in the second round López was astute with his punch selection and landed clear hands that the undefeated did not defend excessively well due to his overconfidence. However, in the third round, Álvarez hurt his opponent with a left uppercut followed by hooks to the head, although he was unable to score a knockdown.
Álvarez switched from orthodox to southpaw several times, but this did not give him obvious results, as with both stances López found a way to counter him with jabs, short straight hands, and lead hooks. In any case, the undefeated boxer gradually adjusted his timing and his aim and connected his straight hands and hooks more regularly. And at the same time he was increasingly successful in his defensive actions. Thus, although López remained competitive, Álvarez ended up narrowly deserving the victory.
Although he is unusually tall for a super featherweight and possesses skill, Álvarez needs to avoid assuming he’s going to dodge his opponents’ punches while having his hands low. Also, he has to stop shaking his head or smiling every time he gets hit, as it gives a feeling of mental vulnerability. In any case, he is very young and has plenty of room to adjust things, while other things will adjust themselves when he is more mature.
Valenzuela defeated Fuentes
In the co-main event, Álex Fuentes 4(1KO)-1 suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of Mario Valenzuela 4(2KO)-1-1, who had a really efficient boxing. The scores were 60-54 and too close 58-57 and 58-56.
Valenzuela had the mindset to win, so he moved maintaining order, jabbed firmly and counterpunched with uppercuts and hooks to create difficulties and punish the attacks from Fuentes, who suffered a nosebleed in the second round. Since this was checked by the doctor, Fuentes tried to intensify his actions in the next round fearing the bout could be stopped, but he continued to have problems with his opponent’s jab, mobility and technical resources. Fuentes continued to make an effort trying to press and connect isolated power shots, but his face began to swell and he failed to achieve decisive results against Valenzuela, who overall was very effective.
