La exretadora mundial del peso superligero Jessica Camara 10(2KO)-4(2) tuvo un gran 2021 en el que encadenó una victoria sobre Heather Hardy con una buena actuación ante Kali Reis que debería haberle valido los cinturones mundiales WBA-WBO del peso superligero que ésta poseía. Con todo, la industria del boxeo tenía otros planes: a Camara se le robó vilmente la victoria en una velada de Matchroom Boxing, puesto que Reis iba a iniciar una carrera como actriz en la que no se quería que diese su primer paso sin títulos mundiales y tras una derrota.
A veces personas pertenecientes a las grandes promotoras o a sus medios afines tratan de quitarles impotencia a los robos, pero el hecho es que estos muchas veces tienen consecuencias determinantes y que los púgiles en muchas ocasiones no pueden recuperarse tras ellos. En el caso concreto de Camara, quizás nunca llegue a capturar un cinturón mundial, recibiendo anoche un severo revés a sus aspiraciones en forma de un KOT en el cuarto round a manos de la dura mexicana, con récord engañoso, Karla Ramos Zamora 10(3KO)-9(1)-1.
Dado que Camara tenía venaje en habilidad pero no en boxeo en corta o en potencia, Ramos acertó de lleno en su elección táctica cargando contra la local desde el inicio y buscando intercambiar con intensidad. Así, aunque recibió algunos golpes de Camara, esta en general tuvo menos éxitos, ya que Ramos sacudía y estremecía con sus volados y ganchos y daba continuidad a sus éxitos.
Al estar mejor posicionada de piernas y sacar directos con una mejor ejecución técnica, a veces Camara desequilibró a su contrincante, pero no la dañó, y tras dar unos pasos atrás la mexicana volvía al ataque con fiereza.
Durante tres rounds la pugna fue más o menos contendida y la canadiense ofreció un esfuerzo notable por intentar mantenerse a la altura de la agresividad de su rival. Pero Camara empezó a dar signos de desgaste tempranos y en el cuarto episodio fue golpeada con dureza por una combinación de hooks, siendo posteriormente dañada por un directo. Este fue el principio del fin, dado que la local fue golpeada sin respuesta en las cuerdas por una larga serie hasta que el árbitro detuvo el choque.
El triunfo de Ramos, a la vez que pone a Camara en una posición delicada, debería servirle para lograr una buena posición en las listas y recibir una nueva importante oportunidad. Con todo, existen muchos prejuicios contra los púgiles con récords numéricamente feos y no son pocas las boxeadoras que preferirían evitar medirse a una rival con semejante balanza riesgo/beneficio, por lo que tampoco debe darse por sentado que Ramos verá premiados a corto plazo sus esfuerzos.
Por otro lado, en el respaldo del Pascal-Eifert también se produjo un combate del peso superligero en el que el canadiense Mathieu Germain 22(9KO)-2(2)-1 venció por decisión unánime (97-93, 97-93 y 96-94) a su compatriota Steven Wilcox 24(7KO)-4-1, llevando así su racha de victorias a cuatro y dando un paso más para reaparecer en la lista de algún organismo.

Former world super lightweight challenger Jessica Camara 10(2KO)-4(2) had a great 2021 in which she followed up a win over Heather Hardy with a strong performance against Kali Reis that should have earned her the WBA-WBO world super lightweight belts. However, the boxing industry had other plans: Camara was awfully robbed in a Matchroom Boxing evening, since Reis was going to start an acting career and the elite of the industry did not want her to take her first step without world titles and after a loss.
Sometimes, people connected to big promotional companies or to their related media, try to downplay robberies, but the fact is that these often have decisive consequences and that fighters often cannot recover after them. In the specific case of Camara, she may never capture a world belt, as she suffered a severe setback to her aspirations last night in the form of a fourth-round TKO at the hands of the tough Mexican, with a misleading record, Karla Ramos Zamora 10(3KO)-9(1)-1.
Given that Camara had an advantage in ability but not in power and efficiency at short range, Ramos made the perfect tactical choice, charging against the local from the beginning and looking to exchange with intensity. Thus, although she took some punches from Camara, the Canadian was less successful overall, as Ramos shook and rocked her opponent with her hooks and gave continuity to her successes.
As Camara had a better leg position and superior punching technique, her straight hands sometimes unbalanced her opponent, but she did not hurt her, and after taking a few steps back, the Mexican returned to the attack fiercely.
For three rounds the fight was more or less contested and the Canadian offered a remarkable effort to try to keep up with the aggressiveness of her opponent. But Camara began to show early signs of fatigue and in the fourth episode she was hit hard by combinations of hooks and then she was damaged by a straight hand. This was the beginning of the end, as the local was punished with an unanswered barrage on the ropes until the referee stopped the clash.
Ramos’ win (while putting Camara in a compromised position) should help her achieve a good position on the rankings and receive a new important opportunity. However, there are many prejudices against fighters with numerically ugly records and there are many boxers who would prefer to avoid facing a boxer with such a risk/reward balance, so it should not be taken for granted that Ramos will be rewarded for her efforts in the short term.
On the other hand, also in Pascal-Eifert’s support, Canadian Mathieu Germain 22(9KO)-2(2)-1 won by unanimous decision (97-93, 97-93 and 96-94) a super lightweight bout against compatriot Steven Wilcox 24(7KO)-4-1, thus taking his winning streak to four and taking one more step to reappear on the list of some organization.
