Puede que esta vez no tomase sustancias prohibidas, puesto que el canadiense Jean Pascal padeció un gran bajón de rendimiento ante una supuesta víctima propiciatoria como el alemán Michael Eifert, que le derrotó contra pronóstico por decisión unánime en una eliminatoria final IBF del peso semipesado. En el respaldo otro de los favoritos se vio superado, puesto que la exretadora mundial del peso superligero Jessica Camara fue batida por KOT en el cuarto asalto a manos de la mexicana Karla Ramos Zamora. Viernes 17 de marzo
Después de cerca de tres años sin que el cinturón de campeón británico del peso supermosca tuviese dueño a causa de dos empates en peleas por el cinto vacante, Iljaz Ahmed y Marcel Braithwaite pugnaron por al fin coronar a un nuevo titular, pero por tercera vez consecutiva el combate terminó en empate. Respecto al prospecto ucraniano del peso supergallo Oleh Dovhun 15(5KO)-0 no se dejó sorprender por el nicaragüense Juan Centeno 8(1KO)-7(2)-3 y cortó su racha de buenas actuaciones sobre invictos venciéndole por amplísima decisión unánime (triple 100-90). En principio, Dovhun, que es 10º WBA y que ha peleado ya tres veces a diez rounds, no debería tardar mucho en afrontar una prueba de fuego en la que intentar escalar hasta lo más alto. Sin embargo, para ello necesitará evitar nuevas largas inactividades como la que padeció antes de su encuentro del viernes.
Sábado 18 de marzo
En la muy mal emparejada velada de Matchroom Boxing hubo un pleno absoluto de amplios triunfos de los favoritos. De hecho, los nueve no favoritos que participaron en el evento no ganaron ni siquiera diez asaltos conjuntamente entre todos sus combates, lo que da muestra de lo desnivelados que fueron los choques.
En los tres más destacados, el peso wélter Cyrus Pattinson 6(4KO)-0, batió por KOT en el noveno round a Chris Jenkins 23(8KO)-7(3)-3 y podría aparecer en una próxima actualización del ranking WBA, al igual que el peso supergallo Hopey Price 10(3KO)-0, que venció de forma unánime (100-90, 99-91 y 98-92) a Thomas Masson 20(7KO)-6(1)-1. Finalmente, el peso pesado Solomon Dacres 6(2KO)-0 capturó el cinturón de Inglaterra derrotando en el segundo asalto a Robert Ismay 11(4KO)-1(1) y se habla de que podría medirse a Fabio Wardley después de un par de combates más, aunque eso está por verse.
En cuanto al cartel de Golden Boy Promotions, el combate estelar entre Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez y Gabriel Rosado fue cancelado, así que el poco interés del evento se vio aún más reducido. En el nuevo encuentro estelar, el peso ligero desmotivado, con exceso de peso y con múltiples cuentas pendientes recientes con la justicia Joseph “Jo Jo” Díaz 32(15KO)-4-1 fue sorprendido por Mercito Gesta 34(17KO)-3(1)-1, que le derrotó por decisión dividida (97-93, 92-98, 91-99) en un resultado totalmente contra pronóstico, aunque quizás lógico en retrospectiva considerando el contexto actual de Díaz. Así, “Jo Jo” sigue una peligrosa cuesta abajo y Gesta se posicionó al alcance de una importante oportunidad.
En los otros dos encuentros destacados del cartel, los favoritos se impusieron en sus pasos adelante: el peso ligero Óscar Duarte 25(20KO)-1-1 se convirtió en el primero en vencer antes del límite a Alex Martin 18(6KO)-5(1) noqueándolo en el octavo asalto y el peso superwélter Eric Tudor 8(6KO)-0 superó al invicto Damoni Cato-Cain 7(6KO)-1-1 por decisión unánime (80-72, 78-74, 78-74).
Pasando a la cartelera de Dubái, el dopado reincidente Jarrell Miller 26(22KO)-0-1 logró su tercer triunfo desde su retorno venciendo por KOT en el sexto asalto a otro púgil con un positivo en control antidopaje en su carrera como el veterano Lucas Browne 31(27KO)-4(4). A muchos les puede parecer una broma, pero el hecho es que todo parece indicar que, habiendo tanto apoyo de los promotores a los dopados y siendo un peso pesado invicto y conocido por el gran público, más pronto que tarde veremos a Miller de nuevo en el cartel de una promotora destacada.
En el undercard, el peso superpluma Jono Carroll 24(7KO)-2-1 se mantuvo activo y afianzó su posición en el ranking WBA superando por decisión unánime (100-90, 99-91, 98-92) al exretador mundial Miguel Marriaga 30(26KO)-7(1); el peso crucero ruso Soslan Asbarov 4(1KO)-0 se anotó el mayor triunfo de su carrera en su gran paso adelante ante el estadounidense Brandon Glanton 17(14KO)-2, al que venció por decisión mayoritaria (98-92, 97-93, 95-95) en un intenso choque; y el peso pesado Ruslan Fayfer 28(18KO)-4(3)-1 a duras penas logró una victoria por decisión dividida (77-75, 77-75, 75-77) ante el mexicano Germán García 8(8KO)-5(2).
Finalmente, el sábado tuvo estos otros resultados:
-La campeona mundial WBC del peso supergallo Yamileth Mercado 20(5KO)-3 retuvo su cinturón con una decisión unánime (100-90, 99-91, 98-92) ante la retadora obligatoria Kudakwashe Chiwandire 6(4KO)-2-1, quedando libre para afrontar ahora peleas significativas.
-El peso superwélter Roarke Knapp 16(11KO)-1(1) sumó su séptimo triunfo consecutivo venciendo a Ahmed El Mousaoui 34(8KO)-5-1 por decisión unánime (99-91, 98-93 y 96-94), y de seguir así en no mucho tiempo aparecerá en alguna de las listas.
-El peso superwélter Bakary Samake 11(6KO)-0 cumplió su objetivo ante Lucas Bastida 19(11KO)-3(1)-1 derrotándolo con amplias puntuaciones de los jueces (99-90, 99-90, 97-92).
-El peso supermedio Pablo Corzo 14(12KO)-0 conquistó el vacante cinturón de Argentina volviendo a vencer por decisión unánime (100-90, 100-90, 99-91) a Facundo Galovar 15(9KO)-9(1)-2.
-El veterano Nehomar Cermeño 27(16KO)-9(3)-1 fue derrotado por decisión mayoritaria (95-95, 94-96, 93-97) a manos del joven Jaime Muñoz 14(9KO)-1-1, nuevo campeón nacional panameño del peso superpluma.

After nearly three years without a British super flyweight champion (due to two draws in fights for the vacant belt), Iljaz Ahmed and Marcel Braithwaite battled to finally crown a new titleholder, but for the third time in a row the bout ended in a draw. Regarding the Ukrainian super bantamweight prospect Oleh Dovhun 15(5KO)-0, he was not surprised by the Nicaraguan Juan Centeno 8(1KO)-7(2)-3 and ended his streak of good performances over undefeated boxers defeating him by wide unanimous decision (triple 100-90). In principle, Dovhun, who is ranked as WBA number 10 and has already fought in three ten-rounders, should not take long to face a decisive test in which to try to climb to the top. However, for this he will need to avoid further long layoffs like the one he suffered before his match on Friday.
Saturday, March 18
In the badly matched Matchroom Boxing card, all favorites scored wins. In fact, the nine underdogs that participated in the event did not win ten rounds combined in all their bouts, which shows just how one-sided the clashes were.
In the three more remarkable, welterweight Cyrus Pattinson 6(4KO)-0, beat Chris Jenkins 23(8KO)-7(3)-3 by ninth-round TKO and could appear in an upcoming update of the WBA ranking, like super bantamweight Hopey Price 10(3KO)-0, who defeated Thomas Masson 20(7KO)-6(1)-1 by unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91 and 98-92). Also, heavyweight Solomon Dacres 6(2KO)-0 captured the English belt beating Robert Ismay 11(4KO)-1(1) in two rounds and there is talk that he could face Fabio Wardley after a couple more fights, although that remains to be seen.
As for the Golden Boy Promotions bill, the main fight between Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez and Gabriel Rosado was canceled, so the little interest in the card was further reduced. In the new main event, unmotivated lightweight with multiple problems outside the ring Joseph «Jo Jo» Díaz 32(15KO)-4-1 was shocked by Mercito Gesta 34(17KO)-3(1)-1, who defeated him by split decision (97-93, 92-98, 91-99) in an upset, although perhaps it was a logical result in hindsight considering Diaz’s current context. Thus, “Jo Jo” keeps going down a dangerous slippery slope and Gesta got in position to reach an important opportunity.
In the other two mentionable matches of the card, the favorites prevailed in their steps up in competition: lightweight Óscar Duarte 25(20KO)-1-1 became the first to stop Alex Martin 18(6KO)-5(1) knocking him out in the eighth round and super welterweight Eric Tudor 8(6KO)-0 outpointed undefeated Damoni Cato-Cain 7(6KO)-1-1 via unanimous decision (80-72, 78-74, 78-74).
Moving on to the Dubai evening, repeat doped fighter Jarrell Miller 26(22KO)-0-1 earned his third win since his return with a sixth-round TKO over another boxer with a positive drug test in his career as veteran Lucas Browne 31(27KO)-4(4). For many it may seem like a joke, but the fact is that everything seems to indicate that, with so much support from the promoters for doped boxers and being an undefeated heavyweight known by the general public, sooner rather than later we will see Miller again in a big card.
In Miller-Browne’s support, super featherweight Jono Carroll 24(7KO)-2-1 remained active and consolidated his position in the WBA ranking by beating former world title challenger Miguel Marriaga 30(26KO)-7(1) by unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91, 98-92); Russian cruiserweight Soslan Asbarov 4(1KO)-0 scored the biggest win of his career in a huge step up against American Brandon Glanton 17(14KO)-2, whom he defeated by majority decision (98-92, 97- 93, 95-95); and heavyweight Ruslan Fayfer 28(18KO)-4(3)-1 barely managed to achieve a split decision victory (77-75, 77-75, 75-77) over Mexican Germán García 8(8KO)-5(2).
Finally, Saturday had these other results:

-Super welterweight Bakary Samake 11(6KO)-0 fulfilled his objective against Lucas Bastida 19 (11KO)-3(1)-1 defeating him with wide scorecards (99-90, 99-90, 97-92).
-Super middleweight Pablo Corzo 14(12KO)-0 conquered the vacant Argentine belt defeating Facundo Galovar 15(9KO)-9(1)-2 by unanimous decision (100-90, 100-90, 99-91).
-Veteran Nehomar Cermeño 27(16KO)-9(3)-1 was beaten by majority decision (95-95, 94-96, 93-97) at the hands of the young Jaime Muñoz 14(9KO)-1-1, new Panamanian national super featherweight champion.
