“El Venado” López arriesgará su cinturón mundial del peso pluma en Belfast ante Michael Conlan

Durante varias semanas, los rumores han apuntado a que el campeón mundial IBF del peso pluma Luis Alberto “El Venado” López podía defender su cinturón el día 27 de mayo en Belfast, Reino Unido, ante el bronce olímpico irlandés Michael Conlan. Estas informaciones resultaban perfectamente razonables si se comparaban con las declaraciones del promotor Bob Arum, que señaló inmediatamente después de la coronación de López que el plan era que se enfrentase a Conlan en su primera defensa.
Pues bien, ahora BBC Sport señala que todo está listo ya para que se produzca el combate, que presumiblemente será anunciado en los próximos días.
A esta pugna López llegará en una racha de diez victorias desde una ajustada derrota ante Rubén Villa, cadena de triunfos en la que sumó éxitos como visitante ante rivales como Andy Vences e invictos como Gabriel Flores Jr. e Isaac Lowe antes de destronar a Josh Warrington el pasado diciembre. Por su parte, Conlan llegará al encuentro tras sencillas victorias sobre Karim Guerfi (también el pasado diciembre) y Miguel Marriaga desde su brutal batalla ante Leigh Wood, que le noqueó en el último asalto.
Este interesante duelo, en el que Conlan tiene más posibilidades de éxito de lo que podría parecer, será otra gran velada más que vivirá en mayo el boxeo de la isla de Irlanda, dado que una semana antes Katie Taylor tratará de capturar los cuatro cinturones mundiales del peso superligero batallando con Chantelle Cameron en Dublín.

For several weeks, rumors have suggested that IBF world featherweight champion Luis Alberto “Venado” López could defend his belt on May 27 in Belfast, United Kingdom, against Irish, Olympic bronze medalist, Michael Conlan. This information was perfectly logical when compared with the statements of promoter Bob Arum, who said immediately after Lopez’s coronation that the plan was for the Mexican to face Conlan in his first defense.
Well, now BBC Sport reports that everything is set for the fight to take place, and presumably it will be announced in the coming days.
López will step into the ring on a ten-win streak since a narrow defeat against Rubén Villa, string of victories in which he scored wins on the road against opponents like Andy Vences and undefeated like Gabriel Flores Jr. and Isaac Lowe before dethroning Josh Warrington last December. For his part, Conlan will access his first world title bout after easy victories over Karim Guerfi (also last December) and Miguel Marriaga since his brutal battle against Leigh Wood, who knocked him out in the last round.
