La actividad relevante de la semana boxística no comenzó nada bien, puesto que el combate estelar de la velada organizada por Juan Manuel Márquez y emitida por ProBox terminó de forma muy controvertida. Después de que la pelea se parase en el sexto asalto por un corte y se llegase a una decisión técnica, parecía que el panameño Alexander Durán 21(7KO)-1 se iba a hacer con un claro triunfo, pero los jueces increíblemente le dieron la victoria al mexicano Carlos “Tiburón” Sánchez 24(19KO)-1(1) con corruptas cartulinas de 60-56 y doble 58-56.
El enfrentamiento se desarrolló táctico y esencialmente desde la distancia media-larga y larga. Esto en teoría perjudicaba al pegador Sánchez, pero fue él quien pareció buscar más este tipo de planteamiento cediendo la iniciativa y limitándose a escoger manos esporádicas. Por su parte, Durán no tenía una cadencia de golpes mucho más alta, pero con su posición de zurdo, su mayor alcance y su heterodoxia tenía ventajas en este tipo de duelo. Por ello, con algunos jabs aquí y allá, algún directo zurdo, y algún curvo en los intervalos en media-corta el visitante pareció obtener una sólida ventaja.
El árbitro empezó a cansarse de la forma que estaba tomando el combate, con poca actividad, agarres insistentes y una notable falta de espectáculo, así que llamó la atención a ambos boxeadores. En cualquier caso, el encuentro no tuvo tiempo para enderezarse, ya que poco después se produjo un choque de cabezas en el que Sánchez sufrió un corte, cosa que llevó al médico a parar la pugna en el sexto round, si bien la brecha no pareció demasiado grave.
Evidentemente, el resultado merecería que los jueces fuesen sancionados, que se hiciese una investigación y que el resultado se cambiase, como tantísimas otras veces debería suceder en tantos otros rincones del mundo. Pero esto es boxeo, así que Durán tendrá que lidiar con una primera derrota injusta y Sánchez se verá acercado a una nueva importante oportunidad. Con todo, tras su derrota en sólo tres asaltos ante Pedro Campa, la mala actuación de “Tiburón” ante Durán sólo afianza la idea de que su proyección no es ni muchísimo menos tan buena como inicialmente se pensaba.

The clash was tactical and essentially from medium-long and long distance. This in theory was not convenient for the puncher Sánchez, but he was who seemed to seek this type of approach, giving up the initiative and just throwing sporadic hands. For his part, Durán did not have a much higher work rate, but with his southpaw stance, his longer reach and his unorthodoxy, he had advantages in this kind of duel. Therefore, with some jabs here and there, some straight lefts, and some hooks in the intervals in short-medium range, the visitor seemed to shape a solid advantage.
The referee was starting to get tired of the way the boxers were fighting, as both had little activity, clinched insistently and there was a noticeable lack of excitement, so he warned them. In any case, the match did not have time to change, as soon after there was a clash of heads in which Sánchez was cut, something that led the doctor to stop the fight in the sixth round, although the injury did not seem too serious.
Obviously, the judges should be punished, an investigation should be carried out and the result should be changed, as so many other times should happen in so many other corners of the world. But this is boxing, so Durán will have to deal with an unfair first loss and Sánchez will get closer to an important opportunity. However, after his defeat in only three rounds against Pedro Campa, the poor performance of «Tiburón» against Durán only strengthens the idea that his projection is not nearly as good as initially thought.
