El peso superwélter estadounidense Brian Ceballo 14(7KO)-1 rebotó de su primera derrota venciendo al argentino Luis Alberto Verón 20(9KO)-7(1)-2 con una decisión unánime (80-72, 79-73, 79-73). De todos modos, con ello ni mucho menos borró la impresión de que, pese a su buena carrera amateur, le queda mucho trabajo por delante para alcanzar el nivel del top 15, al que sólo se aproximará afrontando peleas más exigentes que le den experiencia de calidad.
La velada del Ceballo-Verón también tuvo una nueva victoria del prospecto mongol del peso superpluma Tsendbaatar Erdenebat 6(3KO)-0, que no obstante tampoco pudo noquear al mexicano Edy Valencia 20(7KO)-10-6 y lo batió por decisión unánime (80-72, 78-74, 78-74), y con un trabajado triunfo por decisión mayoritaria (76-76, 77-75, 78-74) de la excampeona mundial japonesa Miyo Yoshida 16(0KO)-3 sobre la estadounidense Indeya Smith 6(1KO)-7-2 con el que regresó a la senda del triunfo.
Por otro lado, el peso semipesado neozelandés Jerome Pampellone 16(9KO)-0 sólo necesitó un round para asestarle la primera derrota antes del límite de su carrera a Mose Auimatagi Jr. 15(10KO)-3(1)-2 que había llegado a combatir en el peso crucero. Por ello, Pampellone hizo toda una declaración de intenciones respecto a que está listo para afrontar retos más allá de las fronteras de su país.
Viernes 28 de abril
Estaba claro que si el español Jon Míguez 17(8KO)-0-1 no era muy contundente en su combate ante un Jordy Weiss 30(3KO)-0-1, que ha sido varias veces ayudado por los jueces, no iba a poder lograr ganar una decisión contra él como visitante. Efectivamente así fue, ya que la pelea estuvo contendida y terminó en un empate con cartulinas realmente dispares (117-112, 113-116 y 114-114). Así, el cinturón de campeón de Europa del peso wélter seguirá vacante y se podría ordenar una revancha, si bien lo más preocupante es que se apunta a que a Weiss se le permitió abandonar el recinto sin hacerse la prueba antidopaje post-combate…
En cuanto a la cartelera de Shuan Boxing, el joven peso mosca Franklyn de Paula venció por amplia decisión unánime a Gilbert González, siendo esta la primera ocasión en la que alcanzó un veredicto de los jueces. -El choque entre Miguel “Mickey” Román 65(49KO)-14(4) y Jorge “Kan” Mata 15(10KO)-1(1)-2 fue para olvidar, ya que, después de que la pelea acabase en un No Contest en el segundo round por un corte sufrido por Román a causa de un choque de cabezas, un individuo del público subió al ring y le dio un golpe en la cabeza por detrás a Mata…
-El peso medio Juan Manuel Taborda 18(11KO)-1(1)-1 sufrió una derrota contra pronóstico por KOT en el noveno round ante Emiliano Exequiel Pucheta 18(8KO)-6(1) que le costará su posición como 9º WBO y que le supondrá un enorme revés a sus aspiraciones.
-El campeón Southern Area del peso ligero Martin McDonagh 12(1KO)-2(1) retuvo su título con un triunfo a los puntos (97-94) sobre Ben Smith 11(0KO)-1, dando un paso importante para continuar acercándose a la disputa del título inglés.
Sábado 29 de abril
El pegador del peso ligero William Zepeda fue demasiado agresivo y contundente para Jaime Arboleda, que sucumbió en el segundo asalto del combate estelar de la velada de Golden Boy Promotions. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.
En cuanto al combate coestelar, el peso pluma Diego de la Hoya sufrió una dura derrota contra pronóstico a manos de Victor Morales, que llevó así su carrera a un nuevo nivel. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.
La pelea entre dos boxeadores con muchas brechas como Fredrick Lawson y Estevan Villalobos fue un disputado choque de estilos que perfectamente podría haber acabado con otro veredicto que el que dieron los jueces, quienes consideraron que Lawson mereció el triunfo unánime. Finalmente, la cartelera estelar ofreció una victoria del prospecto supermedio David Stevens sobre Marco Antonio Peribán. Con todo, Stevens tuvo un rendimiento muy inferior al de otras promesas que se enfrentaron a Peribán antes que él. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.
En cuanto a la velada española, casi hubo un pleno de los favoritos. Como se podía esperar, el peso superligero Jon Fernández 24(21KO)-3(1) impuso sus incontables ventajas sobre un Petr Petrov 42(23KO)-8(4)-2 veteranísimo y muy venido a menos y lo derrotó por abandono en el cuarto round, enviándolo al retiro. Por otro lado, José Luis Navarro Jr. 8(8KO)-1(1) se desquitó de su primera derrota venciendo por KOT en el noveno asalto a Ronny Landaeta 20(12KO)-5(2), y se convirtió en campeón de España del peso supermedio, y el peso superligero Jonathan Alonso 23(7KO)-2 se hizo con una ajustada victoria unánime (96-94, 96-94 y 97-93) sobre Zoravor Petrosyan 13(5KO)-3.
La cartelera también tuvo un resultado, considerado contra pronóstico por muchos, en el que el prospecto argentino del peso superwélter Ismael Flores 10(7KO)-1-1 sufrió su primera derrota con una decisión unánime ante el hábil y más experimentado Jorge Fortea 24(9KO)-3(2)-1, y una polémica, ya que el campeón de España del peso superligero Samuel Molina 25(11KO)-2(1), pese a medirse a un boxeador muchísimo menos experimentado que él como Rikar Urrutia 6(0KO)-2, se vio en una pelea dura y contendida en la que sólo logró un veredicto por decisión dividida que no convenció precisamente a todos.
El sábado también se produjeron estos otros duelos:
-La francesa Segolene Lefebvre 17(1KO)-0 se anotó el mayor triunfo de su carrera y recuperó el cinturón mundial WBO del peso supergallo derrotando a la argentina Débora Anahí Dionicius 35(6KO)-5 por decisión unánime (97-93, 97-93, 97-93).
-La argentina Leonela Paola Yúdica 19(1KO)-1-3 se acercó notablemente a una oportunidad titular en la división del peso minimosca derrotando a su compatriota Tamara Elisabet Demarco 11(0KO)-6(2) por decisión dividida (96-94, 97-93 y 94-96).
-Al peso supergallo mexicano José Israel Ramírez Maciel 19(10KO)-1 se le dio un triunfo por knockout en el cuarto round a pesar de que el golpe decisivo fue en la nuca de Fidel Castro 8(5KO)-4(2). De hecho, Castro quedó en muy mal estado tras el puño y tuvo que ser evacuado en ambulancia. Las asistencias a pie de ring fueron tan patéticamente negligentes que incluso lo hicieron caer de la camilla mientras lo sacaban del cuadrilátero.
-El peso pluma mexicano Brandon León Benítez 20(8KO)-2(2) continuó su racha derrotando al argentino Federico Sebastián Pedraza 14(2KO)-3(2)-1 por KOT en el séptimo asalto.

American super welterweight Brian Ceballo 14(7KO)-1 bounced back from his first defeat beating Argentinian Luis Alberto Verón 20(9KO)-7(1)-2 with a unanimous decision (80-72, 79-73, 79 -73). In any case, despite the win and his good amateur career, it looks like he still has a lot of work to do to reach the level of the top 15, to which he will only approach by facing harder fights that can give him quality experience.
The Ceballo-Verón evening also had a new victory for Mongolian super featherweight prospect Tsendbaatar Erdenebat 6(3KO)-0, who couldn’t knock out Mexican Edy Valencia 20(7KO)-10-6 and beat him by unanimous decision (80-72, 78-74, 78-74), and a hard-fought majority decision win (76-76, 77-75, 78-74) for Japanese former world champion Miyo Yoshida 16(0KO)-3 over American Indeya Smith 6(1KO)-7-2, with which she returned to winning ways.

It was clear that if Spaniard Jon Míguez 17(8KO)-0-1 was not very forceful in his fight against Jordy Weiss 30(3KO)-0-1, who has been helped several times by the judges, he would not be able to achieve a decision win on the road against him. As could be expected, super lightweight Jon Fernández 24(21KO)-3(1) imposed his countless advantages on a very veteran and very faded boxer as Petr Petrov 42(23KO)-8(4)-2, who was defeated in the fourth round and subsequently announced his retirement. On the other hand, José Luis Navarro Jr. 8(8KO)-1(1) avenged his first loss by defeating Ronny Landaeta 20(12KO)-5(2) by ninth-round TKO, and became Spanish super middleweight champion, and super lightweight Jonathan Alonso 23(7KO)-2 scored a close unanimous decision win (96-94, 96-94 and 97-93) over Zoravor Petrosyan 13(5KO)-3.

-Argentinian Leonela Paola Yúdica 19(1KO)-1-3 came remarkably close to a title fight in the light flyweight division defeating her compatriot Tamara Elisabet Demarco 11(0KO)-6(2) by split decision (96-94 , 97-93 and 94-96).
-Mexican super bantamweight José Israel Ramírez Maciel 19(10KO)-1 was given a fourth round knockout victory despite the decisive blow was in the back of the head of Fidel Castro 8(5KO)-4(2). In fact, Castro was seriously injured and had to be evacuated by ambulance. The ringside medical assistance was so pathetically negligent that they even knocked Castro off the stretcher as they carried him out of the ring.
-Mexican featherweight Brandon León Benítez 20 (8KO)-2(2) continued his streak by defeating Argentinian Federico Sebastián Pedraza 14(2KO)-3(2)-1 by seventh-round TKO.
