Tanto el peso pesado Frazer Clarke 7(5KO)-0 como la peso ligero Caroline Dubois 7(5KO)-0 lograron victorias a los puntos y se emplazaron a pasos adelante. El bronce olímpico Clarke superó al veterano polaco Mariusz Wach 37(20KO)-10(4) con una tarjeta de juez-árbitro de 100-90, si bien su actuación no impresionó a la mayoría de fans, mientras que Dubois derribó y venció con una cartulina de 80-71 a la argentina Yanina del Carmen Lescano 13(4KO)-3. Por otro lado, el peso medio irlandés Aaron McKenna 17(8KO)-0 se anotó un triunfo por decisión unánime (100-91, 98-92, 98-93) sobre el angoleño Uisma Lima 10(8KO)-1.
El viernes también se produjeron estos otros resultados:
-El olímpico australiano Alex Winwood 3(2KO)-0 tuvo más trabajo del esperado con el nicaragüense Reyneris Gutiérrez 9(2KO)-1, a quien venció por decisión unánime (96-93, 97-92, 97-92), lo que muestra que debe evitar precipitarse en sus planes mundialistas.
-El combate del peso crucero entre Vasil Ducar 14(10KO)-6(1)-2 y Viktor Trush 8(8KO)-2(1)-1 terminó en empate en el cuarto round (corte padecido por Ducar), lo que hace probable una revancha, especialmente habiendo caído a la lona ambos púgiles antes del final.
-La racha del veterano Renold Quinlan 16(11KO)-12(4) llegó a su fin de mala manera: no dio el peso y fue vencido contra pronóstico por el 14 meses inactivo Lucas Miller 9(3KO)-5(1)-2, nuevo campeón de Australia del peso semipesado en virtud de una decisión unánime (triple 97-92).
-El bronce olímpico estadounidense Nico Hernández 11(4KO)-0 logró su segundo triunfo del año venciendo al nicaragüense Ernesto Irías 15(9KO)-8-1 por decisión unánime.
Sábado 17 de junio
En las últimas semanas han habido varios boxeadores muy bien valorados que han ofrecido actuaciones decepcionantes, como por ejemplo el peso semipesado Ali Izmailov. A ellos se unió el sábado el monarca WBC del peso superligero Regis Prograis 29(24KO)-1, púgil considerado el número 1 de la división y que era abrumador favorito para vencer al aspirante sustituto Danielito Zorrilla 17(13KO)-2, pero que a duras penas logró una cuestionada victoria por decisión dividida con dos muy criticadas cartulinas favorables (118-109, 117-110 y 113-114). Así, la valoración de Prograis ha empeorado de forma brusca y, aunque existe la posibilidad de que sólo fuese una mala noche, muchos dudan ya de sus posibilidades en futuras mayúsculas pugnas.
En cuanto al respaldo principal, sólo dos de los tres favoritos cumplieron sus misiones satisfactoriamente. El invicto prospecto uzbeko Shakhram Giyasov 14(9KO)-0 se convirtió en segundo aspirante obligatorio WBA del peso superligero (por detrás de Ohara Davies) ganando una eliminatoria WBA ante el estadounidense Harold Calderón 27(18KO)-1 por decisión unánime (120-108, 118-110, 116-112); el peso ligero Jeremy Hill 19(12KO)-3(1) sólo necesitó cuatro rounds para ganar su mal emparejado choque contra Mark Davis 19(5KO)-2(2); y la inflada peso supergallo Ramla Ali 8(2KO)-1(1) se llevó un serio revés siendo noqueada contra pronóstico en el octavo round por la mexicana Julissa Guzmán 13(7KO)-2-2, que había sido escogida como teórica víctima propiciatoria.
Cambiando de evento, el italiano Vincenzo La Femina 13(7KO)-0 logró el mayor éxito de su carrera hasta la fecha convirtiéndose en el primero en batir antes del límite al duro Geram Eloyan 9(7KO)-5(1) con un KOT en el octavo round. Con este triunfo como visitante, La Femina capturó el cinturón de la Unión Europea del peso supergallo y quedó a la espera de que se produzca el choque Liam Davies vs. Jason Cunningham para intentar conseguir tras él una oportunidad por el cinturón de Europa.
En las peleas de acompañamiento, el peso superligero Hovhannes Martirosyan 15(9KO)-0 se impuso por decisión unánime (99-91, 97-93, 97-93) a Hassan Amzile 6(1KO)-2 y la peso superwélter Femke Hermans 16(7KO)-4(1) sólo necesitó un round para vencer a Maria Lindberg 20(10KO)-9(2)-2, y volver a situarse al alcance de una gran pugna.
El sábado también tuvieron lugar estos otros combates:
-El campeón de Inglaterra del peso gallo Jordan Purkiss 6(1KO)-1(1) fue derrotado contra pronóstico en el séptimo round a manos de Ashley Lane 17(2KO)-10(6)-2, mientras que Jack Martin 8(3KO)-1 retuvo su corona Southern Area del peso superwélter con un KOT en el octavo round sobre Ryan Maycock 7(1KO)-3(2).
-El prospecto del peso superwélter estadounidense Quinton Randall 12(3KO)-0-1 derrotó en el sexto asalto a Terry Chatwood 12(6KO)-2(2)-1.
-El peso medio ruso Vadim Tukov 11(4KO)-0 derrotó por decisión unánime (99-91, 98-92, 98-92) al competente uzbeko Bakhromjon Fozilov 10(9KO)-2-3.
-El joven mexicano Zaid Yam Espinosa 12(7KO)-1(1)-1 sufrió su primera derrota contra su compatriota Brian Anco Padilla 8(7KO)-0, que sólo necesitó dos rounds.
-El peso wélter mexicano Carlos Alberto García 14(11KO)-0 superó su prueba ante Jorge Pérez 13(5KO)-4(3) venciéndole por KOT en el sexto round.
Domingo 18 de junio
En poco más de un minuto, el peso superwélter australiano Tim Tszyu derrotó al mexicano Carlos Ocampo e hizo una declaración de intenciones más respecto al reto que supone para el campeón indiscutido Jermell Charlo, de quien es aspirante obligatorio. Both heavyweight Frazer Clarke 7(5KO)-0 and lightweight Caroline Dubois 7(5KO)-0 scored points victories and aimed for steps up in competition. Olympic bronze medalist Clarke outpointed Polish veteran Mariusz Wach 37(20KO)-10(4) with a score of 100-90 (judge-referee), although his performance didn’t impress most of the fans, while Dubois knocked down and beat Argentinian Yanina del Carmen Lescano 13(4KO)-3 with a 80-71 card. On the other hand, Irish middleweight Aaron McKenna 17(8KO)-0 won via unanimous decision (100-91, 98-92, 98-93) against Angolan Uisma Lima 10(8KO)-1.
Friday also produced these other results:
-Australian Olympian Alex Winwood 3(2KO)-0 had more work than expected with Nicaraguan Reyneris Gutiérrez 9(2KO)-1, whom he defeated by unanimous decision (96-93, 97-92, 97-92). So, the fight seemed to show that Winwood should avoid rushing in his world title plans.
-The fight between cruiserweight Vasil Ducar 14(10KO)-6(1)-2 and Viktor Trush 8(8KO)-2(1)-1 ended in a fourth round draw (due to a cut suffered by Ducar), which makes a rematch likely, especially considering that both fighters were knocked down before the end.
-The streak of veteran Renold Quinlan 16(11KO)-12(4) came to an end in a bad way: he did not make weight and was upset by a boxer coming from a 14-month inactivity like Lucas Miller 9(3KO)-5(1)-2. The new Australian light heavyweight champion won by unanimous decision (triple 97-92).
-American Olympic bronze medalist Nico Hernández 11(4KO)-0 achieved his second victory of the year defeating Nicaraguan Ernesto Irías 15(9KO)-8-1 by unanimous decision.
Saturday, June 17
In recent weeks there have been several highly regarded boxers who have put in disappointing performances, such as light heavyweight Ali Izmailov. They were joined on Saturday by WBC super lightweight champion Regis Prograis 29(24KO)-1, boxer considered by many the No. 1 in the division and who was wide favorite to beat Danielito Zorrilla 17(13KO)-2 but who barely managed to score a disputed split decision victory with two highly criticized favorable scorecards (118-109, 117-110 and 113-114). Thus, Prograis position in the 140 lb weight-class has worsened and, although it is possible to consider that it was just a bad night, many already doubt his chances in future major fights.
As for the main support, only two of the three favorites fulfilled their missions satisfactorily. Undefeated Uzbek prospect Shakhram Giyasov 14(9KO)-0 became the second WBA mandatory super lightweight challenger (behind Ohara Davies) winning a WBA eliminator against American Harold Calderón 27(18KO)-1 by unanimous decision (120- 108, 118-110, 116-112); lightweight Jeremy Hill 19(12KO)-3(1) needed just four rounds to win his mismatched clash against Mark Davis 19(5KO)-2(2); and hyped super bantamweight Ramla Ali 8(2KO)-1(1) took a serious blow being knocked out in an eighth round upset by Mexican Julissa Guzmán 13(7KO)-2-2, who had been chosen as a mere victim.
Moving on to another event, Italian Vincenzo La Femina 13(7KO)-0 achieved the greatest win of his career to date becoming the first to stop the tough Geram Eloyan 9(7KO)-5(1) with an eight round TKO. With this win away from home, La Femina captured the European Union super bantamweight belt, so now he awaits the result of the Liam Davies vs. Jason Cunningham fight to try to get a chance for the European belt against the winner.
As for the undercard, super lightweight Hovhannes Martirosyan 15(9KO)-0 defeated Hassan Amzile 6(1KO)-2 by unanimous decision (99-91, 97-93, 97-93) and super welterweight Femke Hermans 16(7KO)-4(1) only needed one round to beat Maria Lindberg 20(10KO)-9(2)-2, win that puts her back within reach of a big fight.
