En el EDION Arena de Osaka, Japón, emitido por ESPN Knockout, los peso gallo Ryosuke Nishida 7(1KO)-0 y Christian Medina 21(14KO)-3 se enfrentarán en un interesante combate eliminatorio. Al margen de que el vencedor quedará a las puertas del mundial, el encuentro servirá para dar respuesta a un par de preguntas: ¿podrá Nishida seguir lidiando satisfactoriamente con su veloz avance profesional y estar a la altura del reto que supone un púgil como “Chispa” Medina?, ¿podrá Medina superar su mayor test hasta la fecha en su primer combate fuera de su país y enfrentándose a un zurdo e intrincado oponente?
En cuanto al respaldo, el excampeón mundial puertorriqueño Wilfredo “Bimbito” Méndez 18(6KO)-3(2) intentará regresar a la senda del triunfo en un combate del peso minimosca ante el exaspirante mundial filipino ArAr Andales 14(6KO)-2(1)-2 y el puertorriqueño Jean Carlos Torres 20(16KO)-1(1) pondrá fin a más de un año de inactividad en un encuentro del peso wélter contra el local Riku Nagahama 13(4KO)-3(2)-1.
El viernes también se producirán estos otros combates:
-En el Overtime Elite Arena de Atlanta, Estados Unidos, emitido por DAZN, el 2º WBO del peso superpluma, el estadounidense Albert Bell 23(6KO)-0, disputará un rodaje contra el filipino Presco Carcosia 11(9KO)-2-1.
-En el Ambassador Club de Saint Louis, Estados Unidos, se producirá un choque del peso medio en el que se verán las caras dos piedras de toque que vienen de derrotas (ante rivales de nivel) como el estadounidense Vaughn Alexander 17(10KO)-7(1)-1 y el argentino Brian Damián Chaves 14(5KO)-3(3).
Sábado 12 de agosto
Este sábado tendrán lugar tres eventos destacables, siendo el que se producirá antes el organizado por Matchroom Boxing y emitido por DAZN. En teoría, en esta velada se deberían haber visto las caras el excampeón mundial del peso pesado Anthony Joshua 25(22KO)-3(1), que tiene múltiples acusaciones de dopaje, y el exretador mundial Dillian Whyte, que tiene múltiples positivos en control antidopaje. Con todo, Whyte, una vez más, falló un test, dejando en ridículo otra vez a los fans que durante años quisieron pasar por alto sus trampas y apoyaron con vehemencia su candidatura mundialista… La única diferencia es que ahora el inmoral Eddie Hearn, que en su día tiró de contactos y ayudó a Whyte a tapar otro de sus positivos hasta después de que realizase su pelea, tiene intereses evidentes para que este positivo se hiciese público en la semana del combate, con las entradas vendidas, y así poder cambiar al oponente del cohibido Joshua por un rival a medida. El boxeo sigue hundiéndose en la corrupción más bochornosa.
El caso es que Joshua finalmente peleará contra el acabado finés Robert Helenius 32(21KO)-4(3), el mismo boxeador que tuvo una actuación atrozmente mala ante Wilder, ante el que perdió en el primer round. En otras palabras, Hearn quiere que se hagan comparativas entre Joshua y Wilder para seguir generando expectación respecto a un choque entre ambos. Por ello necesita a toda costa que “AJ” esta vez no se muestre como un manojo de dudas tácticas y de temor al contragolpe y destruya a su contrincante, objetivo que debería poder lograr si no es que su moral y valentía están completamente rotas.
En el respaldo, el prometedor peso pesado croata Filip Hrgović 15(12KO)-0 buscará hacer una declaración de intenciones ante el australiano Demsey McKean 22(14KO)-0, púgil fuerte pero repleto de brechas y con un récord inflado, y dos peso pesados veteranos, castigados y con un alto riesgo de sufrir daños cerebrales graves como Derek Chisora 33(23KO)-13(4) y Gerald Washington 20(13KO)-5(5)-1 se medirán en un duelo de reciclaje. Es decir, Hearn busca en el encuentro que Chisora gane para así poder usarlo después por enésima vez, con la excusa de que es “un boxeador entretenido”, como saco de boxeo de un oponente joven, grande y potente que le empuje un paso más hacia una posición de salud precaria.
Otro evento destacado es el que organizará un Bob Arum no menos inmoral y corrupto que Eddie Hearn. En este caso, Top Rank y ESPN estarán a cargo de un cartel desde el Desert Diamond Arena de Glendale, Estados Unidos, en el que se producirá un mundial WBO del peso superpluma entre los mexicanos Emanuel Navarrete 37(31KO)-1 y Óscar Valdez 31(23KO)-1.
Sin duda, debería ser un choque interesante entre un boxeador heterodoxo y otro ortodoxo, entre un púgil que parece estar perdiendo cada vez más rendimiento a medida que se enfrenta a oponentes de mayor tamaño y otro que se encuentra en una posición decisiva en su carrera. De todos modos, conociéndose que Valdez logró su mayor victoria antes de un positivo en control antidopaje (y que es miembro de un gimnasio con múltiples otros positivos), realmente no sería lógico ni vale la pena hacer demasiadas especulaciones respecto a qué pasará en el combate, ya que quizás ello sólo dependa de la cantidad de “té de hierbas” (la excusa que usó tras su positivo) que esta vez consuma…
En la misma cartelera, el olímpico mexicano Lindolfo Delgado 17(13KO)-0 peleará en el peso superligero contra un Jair Valtierra 16(8KO)-2(1) que en su penúltimo combate no ganó ni un round contra Raymond Muratalla.
Por último, queda por mencionar el cartel que Premier Boxing Champions ofrecerá desde el MGM National Harbor de Oxon Hill, Estados Unidos, televisado por Showtime. El choque estelar será otro mundial, dado que el puertorriqueño Emmanuel Rodríguez 21(13KO)-2(1) y el nicaragüense Melvin López 29(19KO)-1(1) se enfrentarán por el vacante cinturón IBF del peso gallo. Aunque López es un joven y motivado boxeador, su falta de experiencia de calidad y su derrota por KOT ante José Velásquez parecen ponerle en una posición difícil sobre el papel ante un boxeador tan hábil, y con varios nombres muy relevantes en su récord, como Rodríguez.
Este combate será precedido en el tramo televisado por otros dos. En uno, el prospecto del peso superligero estadounidense Gary Antuanne Russell 16(16KO)-0 volverá al ring nueve meses después de su controvertido triunfo ante Rances Barthelemy enfrentándose a su invicto compatriota Kent Cruz 16(10KO)-0-3, que viene de a duras penas lograr dos empates ante Enriko Gogokhia. En el otro, la joven promesa estadounidense del peso wélter Travon Marshall 8(7KO)-0 dará un gran paso adelante en aumento de dificultad enfrentándose al dos veces olímpico venezolano Gabriel Maestre 5(4KO)-0-1, que se ha medido a rivales de nivel en su corta carrera en el boxeo profesional pero que ha tenido problemas en sus dos mayores retos.

At the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan, broadcast on ESPN Knockout, bantamweights Ryosuke Nishida 7(1KO)-0 and Christian Medina 21(14KO)-3 will meet in an interesting eliminator. Apart from the fact that the winner will be knocking at the door of a world title fight, the clash will serve to answer a couple of questions: can Nishida continue to deal with his rapid professional pace and be up to the challenge that a fighter like «Chispa» Medina poses?, can Medina pass his biggest test to date in his first fight outside his country facing a southpaw and tricky opponent?
As for the support, Puerto Rican former world champion Wilfredo «Bimbito» Méndez 18(6KO)-3(2) will try to return to winning ways in a light flyweight bout against Filipino world title challenger ArAr Andales 14(6KO)-2(1)-2 and Puerto Rican Jean Carlos Torres 20(16KO)-1(1) will end more than a year of inactivity in a welterweight bout against local Riku Nagahama 13(4KO)-3(2)-1.

Three mentionable events will take place this Saturday. The card that will start sooner will be the one organized by Matchroom Boxing and broadcast by DAZN. In theory, this evening should have been headlined by a clash between former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua 25(22KO)-3(1), who has multiple accusations of doping, and former world title challenger Dillian Whyte, who has multiple positives in anti-doping tests. However, Whyte, once again, failed a test, embarrassing again the fans who for years wanted to ignore his cheating and vehemently supported his world title candidacy… The only difference is that now the immoral Eddie Hearn (who in the past pulled strings and helped Whyte cover up another of his positives until after his bout) has obvious interests in revealing this positive on fight week, with tickets already sold, and thus be able to change the opponent of the tepid Joshua for a tailor-made rival. Boxing continues to sink into the most embarrassing corruption.
The fact is that Joshua will finally face the finished Finn Robert Helenius 32(21KO)-4(3), the same boxer who had an awful performance against Wilder, to whom he lost in the first round. In other words, Hearn wants to make comparisons between Joshua and Wilder to continue generating anticipation regarding a clash between the two former titlists. For this reason, “AJ” needs at all costs to avoid showing so much tactical doubts and fear to a counterpunch and destroy his opponent, a goal that he should be able to achieve if his morale and courage are not completely broken.
In the support, promising Croatian heavyweight Filip Hrgović 15(12KO)-0 will seek to make a statement against Australian Demsey McKean 22(14KO)-0, a strong fighter but full of flaws and with a padded record, and two punished veterans with a high risk of serious brain damage such as Derek Chisora 33(23KO)-13(4) and Gerald Washington 20(13KO)-5(5)-1 will meet in a recycling fight. That is to say, Hearn seeks in the match a Chisora win so that he can use him later for the umpteenth time, with the excuse that he is «an entertaining boxer», as a punching bag for a young, bigger and powerful opponent who will push “War” one step further towards a precarious health position.
Another relevant event is the one that will be organized by Bob Arum, an individual no less immoral and corrupt than Eddie Hearn. In this case, ESPN will televise a bill from the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, United States, in which Mexicans Emanuel Navarrete 37(31KO)-1 and Óscar Valdez 31(23KO)-1 will battle in a WBO super featherweight world championship.
It should certainly be an interesting clash between an unorthodox and a orthodox fighter, between a fighter who is performing worse as he faces bigger opponents and another whose career is in a risky position. In any case, taking into account that Valdez achieved his biggest victory before a positive in a doping test (and that he is a member of a gym with multiple other positives), it really would not be logical to speculate much about what will happen in the fight, since perhaps it will only depend on the amount of «herbal tea» (the excuse he used after his positive) that Valdez consumes this time…
On the same card, Mexican Olympian Lindolfo Delgado 17(13KO)-0 will fight at super lightweight against Jair Valtierra 16(8KO)-2(1), who did not win a single round in his penultimate bout against Raymond Muratalla.
Finally, it remains to mention the card that Premier Boxing Champions will offer from the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, United States, televised by Showtime. The main bout will be another world championship, since Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rodríguez 21(13KO)-2(1) and Nicaraguan Melvin López 29(19KO)-1(1) will face each other for the vacant IBF bantamweight belt. Although López is a young and motivated boxer, his lack of quality experience and his TKO loss to José Velásquez seem to put him in a difficult position on paper against such a skilled boxer (and with several relevant names on his record) as Rodríguez.
This fight will be preceded in the televised part by two other clashes. In one, American super lightweight prospect Gary Antuanne Russell 16(16KO)-0 will return to the ring nine months after his controversial win over Rances Barthelemy facing undefeated compatriot Kent Cruz 16(10KO)-0-3, who comes from barely achieving two draws against Enriko Gogokhia. In the other one, young American welterweight prospect Travon Marshall 8(7KO)-0 will take a big step up battling two-time Venezuelan Olympian Gabriel Maestre 5(4KO)-0-1, who has faced good level opponents in his short professional boxing career but has struggled in his two biggest challenges.
