Mario Barrios habla sobre su combate contra Keith Thurman: “Quiero dejar mi marca en la división”

El día 5 de febrero, un mes después de su primer PPV del año, Premier Boxing Champions ofrecerá su segundo pago por visión de la temporada con la velada Keith Thurman vs. Mario Barrios, encuentro del peso wélter que se disputará en el Michelob Ultra Arena de Las Vegas, Estados Unidos, y que contará en su respaldo con los enfrentamientos Leo Santa Cruz vs. Keenan Carbajal, Abel Ramos vs. Josesito López y Luis Nery vs. Carlos Castro.
Para ir añadiendo expectación al duelo estelar, PBC realizó una entrevista a Barrios en la que se trataron varios temas, entre ellos cómo valoraba haber accedido por segunda vez consecutiva al combate estelar de una velada en PPV tras haber sido derrotado en la anterior. Y es que hay que recordar que Barrios fue vencido en junio a manos de Gervonta Davis. Respecto a esto, el púgil señaló:
“Sé que muchos boxeadores que vienen de una derrota no consiguen este tipo de oportunidad otra vez. Estoy en el gimnasio trabajando y con hambre de victoria. Es por eso que estoy tan emocionado”.
En este sentido, o sea el de no desaprovechar esta excepcional oportunidad, Barrios también añadió:
“He tenido un buen campamento de entrenamiento y me siento más fuerte que nunca. Estoy llevando las cosas a otro nivel. Estoy emocionado por estar de vuelta y quiero mostrar el boxeador que soy. Estar frente a un boxeador como Thurman va a producir fuegos artificiales, va a ser una pelea muy emocionante”.
Hablando de su adversario, además de sugerir que quizás éste le esté subestimando y que seguramente estará muy motivado para intentar volver a la parte alta, Barrios explicó que el combate ante Thurman es crucial para sus aspiraciones en el peso wélter:
“Quiero dejar mi marca en la división, eso es por lo que estoy encarando una pelea tan brutal. Una victoria sobre Keith Thurman, alguien que ha estado en el ring con algunos de los mejores en la división, me sitúa por lo menos en el top 10 del peso wélter ahora mismo”.

Talking about his opponent, in addition to suggesting that perhaps he is underestimating him and that he will surely be highly motivated to try to get back to the top, Barrios explained that the fight against Thurman is crucial for reaching his goals at welterweight:
“I want to make my stamp in the division, which is why I’m taking such a brutal fight. A victory over Keith Thurman, someone who has been in with some of the best in the division, it puts me up in the top 10 at least at 147 right now”.
