Luis Ortiz y Joseph Parker rechazaron eliminatoria del peso pesado contra Filip Hrgović. La propuesta le llega ahora a Tony Yoka

Tal y como está la situación actualmente en el peso pesado, en la que hay estancamiento en las peleas titulares y en el acceso a los campeonatos por parte de los aspirantes, conseguir una oportunidad mundialista es dificilísimo. Por ello, la disputa de una eliminatoria final que certifique al ganador como retador obligatorio es la mejor manera posible para poder acceder a medio-largo plazo a combatir en un mundial del peso pesado. Aun así, parece que este atajo no están dispuestos a tomarlo muchos púgiles si en la eliminatoria se debe pelear contra el temidísimo croata Filip Hrgović.
Después de que en una primera ronda todo el top 15 IBF rechazase pelear contra él en la antesala titular, la Federación está volviendo a intentarlo en una segunda ronda de propuestas a los clasificados, aunque sin mayor éxito. Primeramente, aunque Luis Ortiz había seguido la ruta IBF al disputar una semieliminatoria de este organismo contra Charles Martin, el púgil cubano ha rechazado formalmente pelear en la eliminatoria final contra Hrgović cuando se le ha vuelto a proponer.
Quizás, siendo un púgil muy veterano y en las últimas de su carrera que busca una gran bolsa más antes del retiro, para muchos resultará comprensible (aunque no honorable) que rechazase este combate en el que seguramente hubiese sido noqueado y sin extraer una cantidad de dinero demasiado grande. Con todo, el caso de Joseph Parker es todavía más difícil de justificar.
Este excampeón mundial con ambiciosas aspiraciones tiene prácticamente bloqueado el acceso al campeonato en los demás organismos, en los que ya hay designados retadores obligatorios. Sin embargo, aunque la pelea contra Hrgović era la única vía posible para acortar los plazos para un acceso a una pelea titular, Parker también renunció a disputar este encuentro, de modo que con ello virtualmente ha descartado sus opciones para acceder al campeonato durante 2022 y, como mínimo, parte de 2023.
Con estos dos boxeadores no queriendo pugnar contra Hrgović, ahora la IBF ha enviado la petición para que acepte una eliminatoria a Tony Yoka, que tendrá un par de días para confirmar si encara la antesala mundialista o no. Si acepta la propuesta, se materializaría uno de los mejores duelos posibles entre prospectos del peso máximo, pero de rechazarla la IBF deberá seguir volviendo a enviar propuestas a los restantes clasificados.
Sea como sea, lo que queda claro es que, aunque sus detractores señalan que Hrgović todavía no ha demostrado lo suficiente como boxeador profesional, los promotores, mánagers y entrenadores de púgiles de nivel alto, que entienden mucho del negocio y de los riesgos y beneficios, ven algo sumamente peligroso en el púgil de Croacia, tanto como para aconsejar a sus boxeadores que no encaren un duelo que les acercaría al máximo al sueño de pelear por un mundial del peso pesado.

As the situation currently stands in the heavyweight division, in which there is stagnation in the title fights and in the access to the championships by the challengers, getting a world opportunity is very difficult. Therefore, taking part in a final eliminator that certifies the winner as a mandatory challenger is the best possible way to gain access to a heavyweight world championship. Even so, it seems that many fighters are not willing to take this shortcut if they must fight the feared Croatian Filip Hrgović.
After the entire top 15 IBF refused to fight him in a first attempt, the Federation is sending again proposals to the ranked boxers without much success. Although Luis Ortiz had followed the IBF route by fighting in a semifinal eliminator of this organization against Charles Martin, the Cuban fighter has formally refused to fight in the final eliminator against Hrgović.
Perhaps, being a very veteran fighter looking for one more big purse before retirement, for many it will be understandable (although not honorable) that he rejected this fight in which he would surely have been knocked out and without extracting a huge amount of money. Still, the case of Joseph Parker is even more difficult to justify.
This former world champion has practically blocked his access to the championship in the other sanctioning bodies, in which there are already designated mandatory challengers. However, although the fight against Hrgović was the only possible way to shorten the access to a title fight, Parker also refused this match, so virtually has lost his options to access the championship during 2022 and at least part of 2023.
With these two boxers not wanting to fight Hrgović, now the IBF has sent the request to Olympic gold Tony Yoka, who will have a couple of days to confirm whether he accepts or not this bout. If the answer is positive, one of the best possible duels between top prospects would materialize, but if he rejects it then the IBF will have to continue sending proposals to the remaining ranked boxers.
Be that as it may, what is clear is that, although his detractors say that Hrgović has not yet proven himself enough as a professional boxer, the promoters, managers and trainers of high-level fighters, who understand a lot about the business and the risks and benefits, see something extremely dangerous in the Croatian fighter, so much to advise their boxers not to accept a duel that would bring them closer to their dream of fighting for a heavyweight world championship.
