Frank Warren tras ganar subasta del Fury-Whyte con 41.000.000 $: “Esto muestra nuestro compromiso con The Gypsy King”

Muchos aficionados, incomprensiblemente, se niegan a reconocer a Queensberry Promotions como una de las cinco promotoras más poderosas del mundo, considerando estos entre otras cosas que no tiene dinero para organizar mayúsculos eventos. Pues bien, los que piensan tal cosa quizás cambien su opinión. Y es que la mencionada compañía, dirigida por Frank Warren, ha ganado la subasta para el campeonato mundial WBC del peso pesado con una cifra de 41.025.000 $, que superó por casi 9 millones de dólares a la ofrecida por la todopoderosa Matchroom Boxing (32.222.222 $).
En principio, después de los tiras y aflojas entre ambas partes durante semanas sobre la repartición de una eventual puja ganadora en subasta, Fury se embolsará unos 29.000.000 $ y Whyte unos 7.000.000 $, mientras que el WBC ha confirmado oficialmente que un 10% restante de la puja, o sea 4.102.500 $, serán otorgados al ganador como bono por victoria.
En los próximos días se darán más detalles sobre dónde y cuándo se producirá el enfrentamiento, aunque la intención es que tenga lugar en el mes de abril en Reino Unido, posiblemente en el Millennium Stadium, ahora llamado Principality Stadium, de Cardiff, recinto con capacidad para 72.500 espectadores en gradas que se extiende a 78.000 en eventos de boxeo al poder situar asistentes en el césped.
Después de vencer la subasta, Frank Warren se mostró exultante, y en declaraciones para el Daily Star quiso subrayar su entrega para apoyar a sus boxeadores:
“Prometimos cumplir para nuestro hombre y lo hicimos ganando la subasta para la defensa de Tyson Fury de su título WBC del peso pesado contra Dillian Whyte. Fue una oferta de 42 millones de dólares que simplemente muestra nuestro compromiso con “The Gypsy King. Según el WBC, fue la mayor puja de su historia.
