La última gran controversia de la temporada 2021 llegó el 17 de diciembre en Uzbekistán. El local Israil Madrimov iba ganando a los puntos una eliminatoria WBA superwélter contra Michel Soro, combate que todavía decantó más mermando y dañando al franco-camerunés en el noveno asalto. La victoria de Madrimov parecía entonces ya una cuestión de tiempo, pero el árbitro cometió un grave error y, centrado en escoger el momento para decretar el KOT, pasó completamente por alto la campana de final de asalto, de modo que su detención del combate llegó finalmente fuera del tiempo de round.
Aunque cuando les interesa a los organismos no les cuesta nada realizar resoluciones respecto a diversos temas, algunos muy serios (véase lo rápido que vetaron a los boxeadores rusos y bielorrusos), la WBA ha tardado cerca de tres meses para resolver qué se debía hacer en este caso. Al fin, la Asociación se ha decidido de una vez y ha ordenado el inicio de las negociaciones entre Soro y Madrimov para una revancha eliminatoria del peso superwélter.
Para el equipo de Soro esta será una gran noticia, puesto que se reparará una injusticia cometida (aunque iba perdiendo, el KOT llegó de manera ilegal) y además le dará una segunda oportunidad en un duelo en el que antes del momento polémico realmente estaba desbordado y roto. En cuanto a Madrimov, éste ve como una oportunidad mundialista se le escapa de entre los dedos y tiene que volver a encarar un duro duelo ante un rival difícil si bien, teniendo en cuenta su falta de experiencia profesional, al fin y al cabo no le vendrán mal más asaltos de bagaje de calidad antes de encarar el mayor encuentro de su carrera.

The last big controversy of the 2021 season took place on December 17 in Uzbekistan. The local Israil Madrimov was winning on points a WBA super welterweight eliminator against Michel Soro before he hurt the French boxer in the ninth round. Madrimov’s victory seemed then a matter of time, but the referee made a serious mistake and, focused on choosing the moment for the TKO, completely ignored the bell of the end of the round, so his stoppage of the fight came finally out of time.
Although when it suits the organizations it is not difficult for them to make resolutions on various issues, some of them very serious (for example, they quickly banned Russian and Belarusian boxers), the WBA has taken about three months to resolve what should be done in this case. At last, the Association has made up its mind once and for all and has ordered the start of negotiations between Soro and Madrimov for a super welterweight eliminator rematch.
For Soro’s team this will be great news, since an injustice committed against them will be repaired (although he was losing, the TKO was illegal) and will also give them a second chance in a duel in which the boxer was really overwhelmed and broken before the controversial moment. As for Madrimov, he sees how a world championship opportunity slips through his fingers and he has to face a tough duel again against a difficult rival. However, taking into account his lack of professional experience, in the end, more rounds of quality work will be useful for him before facing the biggest match of his career.
