Poco más de una semana después de que el BBBofC vetase la participación de boxeadores con licencia rusa o bielorrusa en eventos en Reino Unido un boxeador con nacionalidad rusa, David “Ava” Avanesyan 28(16KO)-3(1)-1, encabezará una velada en el Wembley Arena de Londres, Reino Unido. Muchos se han preguntado cómo es esto posible, especialmente los indignados fanáticos de lo políticamente correcto (o del pensamiento de moda) que quieren hacer pagar las decisiones de gobernantes a ciudadanos que nada tienen que ver con ellas.
Las respuestas sobre cómo ha evitado “Ava” el veto han sido varias, afirmando algunos que era debido a que pese a ser ruso tiene origen armenio, si bien esto es falso, ya que hay púgiles de origen armenio y de otras naciones que se han visto afectados por el veto. Otros han señalado que la decisión del BBBofC no tenía carácter retroactivo respecto a duelos pactados antes de la invasión rusa, que el veto no se aplicaba si se es residente en Reino Unido o que se había hecho la vista gorda con un púgil de un importante promotor como Frank Warren, aunque estas tres explicaciones también son falsas.
Si Avanesyan ha podido evitar el veto es única y exclusivamente por el hecho de que no tiene licencia rusa, sino una licencia profesional serbia, a pesar de que nunca ha competido en Serbia. ¿Por qué motivo alguien tendría una licencia de un país muy poco relevante en el boxeo profesional y con el que no tiene relación? Este sería tema para otro artículo…
En definitiva, Avanesyan este sábado iniciará su contrato con Frank Warren exponiendo su título de Europa del peso wélter ante el invicto finlandés Oskari Metz 15(5KO)-0, un oponente que parece estar a un nivel boxístico muy lejano al del titular. Esto no es hablar en contra de Metz, sino a favor de Avanesyan, puesto que éste está en el mejor momento de su carrera, encadena cinco triunfos antes del límite y ha dejado actuaciones simplemente arrolladoras, la última de ellas ante un Liam Taylor que a duras penas llegó al segundo asalto.
Por otro lado, aunque Metz tiene un boxeo valiente, usa con cierta destreza las combinaciones y posee recursos básicos desarrollados, éste llega de vencer de forma dividida y como local a Emanuele Cavallucci.
Peleando en su primer duelo titular y estando invicto, se supone que Metz debería ofrecer un gran esfuerzo, debiéndose recordar que en su mayor duelo hasta la fecha logró vencer claramente como visitante al duro Michal Syrowatka. No obstante, no contando con la agilidad necesaria para mantenerse alejado de Avanesyan, es muy posible que Metz termine viéndose en recurrentes intercambios ante un adversario con una enorme explosividad y con una temible capacidad para generar daños. Por lo tanto, aunque quizás puedan haber algunos minutos de acción entretenidos, si Avanesyan despliega su habitual boxeo destructivo debería hacer sucumbir tarde o temprano a Metz, por el que se pagan 14€ por euro apostado.
Sheeraz, Lynn y Noakes en el respaldo
En la cartelera participarán una decena de invictos de la compañía, entre ellos el peso superwélter Hamzah Sheeraz 14(10KO)-0, que tras su controvertido triunfo ante Bradley Skeete retornará al ring para medirse al fogueado Jez Smith 13(6KO)-4(3)-1. Otro de los púgiles presentes en el evento será el peso pluma Louie Lynn 10(7KO)-0, que afrontará un combate de adquisición de experiencia ante el voluntarioso exaspirante al título británico supergallo James Beech Jr. 14(2KO)-2. Además, el peso ligero con 100% de knockouts Sam Noakes 8(8KO)-0 pondrá a prueba su pegada ante el excampeón de Italia, sin derrotas antes del límite, Vincenzo Finiello 15(1KO)-4-2.
Este evento será emitido en Reino Unido por BT Sport 3 desde aproximadamente las 19:00 en hora local, las 20:00 en España, las 15:00 ET/12:00 PT.

Just over a week after the BBBofC banned boxers with a Russian or Belarusian license from participating in events in the UK, a boxer with Russian nationality, David “Ava” Avanesyan 28(16KO)-3(1)-1, will headline an evening at the Wembley Arena in London, UK. Many have wondered how is this possible, especially the outraged fanatics of political correctness, who want to make pay the decisions of rulers to citizens who have nothing to do with them.
The answers about how «Ava» has avoided the ban have been various. Some claimed that it was because, despite being Russian, he has Armenian origin, although this is false, since there are fighters of Armenian origin and from other nations who have seen affected by the ban. Others have pointed out that the BBBofC’s decision was not retroactive to duels agreed before the Russian invasion, that the ban did not apply to UK residents or that the organization had turned a blind eye to a fighter from a major promoter like Frank Warren, although these three explanations are also false.
If Avanesyan has been able to avoid the ban it is only and exclusively due to the fact that he does not have a Russian license, but a Serbian professional license, even though he has never competed in Serbia. Why would someone have a license from a country not relevant in professional boxing and with which he has no relationship? This would be a topic for another article…
This Saturday Avanesyan will begin his contract with Frank Warren defending his European welterweight title against the undefeated Finn Oskari Metz 15(5KO)-0, an opponent who seems to be at a boxing level very far from the titleholder. This is not talking against Metz, but rather in favor of Avanesyan, since the Russian is in the best moment of his career, has chained five wins by stoppage and has had overwhelming performances, the last of them against Liam Taylor, who barely made it to the second round.
On the other hand, although Metz has a brave boxing, uses combinations with some skill and has developed basic resources, he comes from beating by split decision Emanuele Cavallucci as a local.
Fighting in his first championship and being undefeated, Metz is supposed to put in a lot of effort, and it should be remembered that in his biggest duel to date he managed to clearly beat tough Michal Syrowatka on the road. However, not having the agility to stay away from Avanesyan, Metz could very well end up finding himself in recurring exchanges against an opponent with enormous explosiveness and a fearsome capacity to generate damage. So, while there may be a few entertaining minutes of action, if Avanesyan displays his usual destructive boxing he should sooner or later beat Metz, who is 13/1 betting underdog.

Ten undefeated fighters from the company will participate on the support, including super welterweight Hamzah Sheeraz 14(10KO)-0, who after his controversial victory against Bradley Skeete will return to the ring to face Jez Smith 13(6KO)-4(3)-1. Another of the fighters present at the event will be the featherweight Louie Lynn 10(7KO)-0, who will face an experience acquisition bout against the willful, former British super bantamweight challenger, James Beech Jr. 14(2KO)-2. Additionally, a lightweight with a 100% knockout ratio, Sam Noakes 8(8KO)-0, will test his punch against former Italian national champion Vincenzo Finiello 15(1KO)-4-2.
